Welcome Instapundit readers!! While you’re visiting, you may want to check some of our posts on California politics and our thoughts on how Tea Party ideas resonate with gay people!
Perhaps the best thing about the unhappy Barney Frank’s victory on Tuesday was that, to borrow an expression, we will have Barney Frank to kick around for two more years.
As you all must know by now, that career politician was reelected to a sixteenth term on Tuesday, with the lowest percentage of the vote of any incumbent Massachusetts House Democrat this year. He won with 54% of the vote, his lowest showing since his first election in 1980. But, that self-righteous partisan did not take his victory gracefully.
I couldn’t watch the whole thing. He seemed, as Michael Graham put it, “outraged that he had to run a race at all”, even calling Republican campaigns “beneath the dignity of a democracy”. “This”, Graham adds, “from a guy who ran millions of dollars in attack ads, repeatedly insulted Bielat, and shouted down his own constituents.”
“In this train wreck of a victory speech,” Ed Morrissey observes, “Frank spent more time attacking the media and his opponent, Sean Bielat, than most losing candidates do in conceding their races.” Glenn Reynolds thinks Barney “is actually hurt that he had to take it, not just dish it out this time around. But the Tea Party movement has not yet begun to dish . . .”
Glenn encourages us to mock self-righteous politicians like Barney, “don’t treat them with the respect they — wrongly — feel is their due. They’re not used to being challenged. Keep it up, and odds are they’ll either quit, or embarrass themselves fatally.” Well, that’s just what we’ve been doing her at GayPatriot, mocking the mean-spirited man from Massachusetts.
And we’re not going to let up.
Barney may have survived this bout, but Sean Bielat performed better than any challenger Barney has had since he took office. Barney, he’s coming back. And we’ve got his back.
Barney’s no longer chair of the House Financial Services Committee, so he won’t be able to raise as much cash in 2012 as he did this year. And Bielat will be a seasoned candidate. Not just that, redistricting may give Barney some less friendly territory.
Bruce, I think we just found our first endorsement for the 2012 elections.
I was just thinking earlier that GOProud should continue the attacks on Frank, exposing him for the mean, nasty, crooked, jackass he is. It cant be painted as homophobic coming from a bunch of homos.
And Barney is every bit as mean, nasty and disgraceful as Alan Grayson. Grayson lost because his opponent made an issue of it. Barney will lose when someone reminds his constituents, in his own words, what a nasty piece of work he is.
On BostonHerald.com the editors pointed out that Bielat is usually a very articulate guy, but when they asked him about gays in the military, he “twisted himself in knots as he argued that gays don’t have a right to serve in the military – just like short people.” (Oct. 24, 2010)
Good to know who the “Gay Patriot” wants to get behind first in two years, as opposed to Frank, who was only the second gay person to serve openly in Congress and the longest-serving gay person in Congressional history.
You may hate his party and fiscal policies, but all gay people have benefited from his presence on the national scene. He has helped gays and lesbians in too many ways to list here (see Barney Frank on Wikipedia).
Frank’s “radical homosexual agenda” is allowing gays to marry the individual of their choice; serve in the military honestly and get a job based solely on their qualifications.
Oooh, so scary, so radical.
Here come the screams…
No, equality, no. All gay people have not benefited from Barney’s presence on the national scene. He is, in fact, an embarrassment to gay people.
The more quickly he exits the public stage, the less this mean-spirited man will be a public face of gay America.
Let Ellen be our spokesman!
B. Dan, Since we have a difference of opinion, let’s see what those who work in both the Republican and Democratic sides of the House say about Frank:
In 2004 and again in 2006, a survey of Capitol Hill staffers published in Washingtonian gave Frank the title of the “brainiest”, “funniest”, and “most eloquent” member of the House. In 2008 the same survey named him “brainiest”, and runner up for “workhorse”, and “most eloquent”, in 2010 he was named “brainiest”, “workhorse”, and “funniest”.He is also widely considered to be one of the most powerful members of Congress.
Josh Gottheimer describes Frank as “one of the brightest and most energetic defenders of civil rights issues.”
B. Dan, I doubt you’ve ever met Barney Frank, but I have at a luncheon for gays during the Prop 8 battle (my first foray into local politics here). When Frank was in West Hollywood, he was very gracious to our little group and I found him to have a good sense of humor, even making jokes at his own expense. But even if he is a curmudgeon sometimes, I don’t know why any legitimate gay organization would be so anxious to rush to endorse someone who thinks gays have no right to serve in the military over a trailblazing gay office holder. That shows that this is a bogus blog.
American Elephant makes the same point, explaining this post exists for a unique function, to attack gays without appearing to do so in the usual way. She encourages your call for attack saying “they can’t call it homophobic if Barney Frank is attacked by homos.”
Even her use of the word “homo” shows that she, like most of the folks here, are not part of the GLBT community; they are just Tea Party bloggers. She provides the link to the usual boilerplate attack site where she says nothing positive about gay people, nor does she identify as a lesbian on her site.
It is homophobic when T partiers pretend to be gay people. If there are any actual gays here, they are either being used or cynically selling out.
#5: Well, equity4all, I used to have a problem with Barney Frank because (among many other things): (1) for years he shared a bed with a Fannie/Freddie executive who made millions creating the financial products that the companies sold; (2) that during the same period, he was the Chair of the Financial Services Committee and joined forces with Schumer (D-NY) to block increased regulation of Freddie/Fannie proposed by Senator McCain and the GOP; and (3) made affirmative representations in Congress as the Chair of the Financial Services Committee that Freddie/Frannie were in “good shape” and “not facing any kind of financial crisis” at a time when increased oversight and regulation could have averted or substantially reduced the damages caused by the mortgage meltdown.
But now that you let us know that a bunch of sycophantic pages and aides on Capitol Hill thought Frank was the “brainiest,” “funniest,” and “most eloquent” member of the House, that changes EVERYTHING. Now that I know the facts–that Frank was like,…so super-hilarious and a reeeeally, reeeeally deep, smart person that everybody thought was super-awesome, I regret that I didn’t support his reelection. By the way, did those surveys say anything about Barney being a good kisser? Because now I just feel bad about holding the whole “mortgage industry collapse” against him. I’ve been such a FOOL! Okay, be honest (and don’t tell Barney I asked–I’d be sooooo embarrassed), but do you think Barney would make out with me? Because I like totally want to make out with him now. Don’t play with me!!!! Do you really think I have a chance with Barney–he is soooo cute and I’ve heard he’s like super-funny and intelligent. Let me know, and don’t you dare tell him that I have a crush on him–I’m serious! I would be sooo mortified, girlfriend!!! Hook me up!!! Thx, love ya! xoxo
Michael Graham, the man you quoted as having watched only part of Barney Frank’s speech, is a praying-in-tongues Pentecostal, a graduate of Oral Roberts University and worker on Pat Robertson’s Presidential campaign. He has been published by Regnery, famous for its attack pieces on Dems. He was fired from his job as a talk show host for wishing aloud that someone would kill President and Mrs. Clinton like some mafia “whack.” He might be just a tad biased as a source, but your article seems like a real news piece to anyone who doesn’t know how to research on the internet, which was all I did. Your blog is just regurgitating other T party blogs that are also anti-gay. I don’t object to them, though, because they don’t pretend to be representing the gay community.
Sean A. uses gay stereotypes to belittle here, with his “girlfriend” and “love ya” (which he means as hate ya), but this seems to be standard practice on this allegedly gay blog. This is obviously not a gay site. It is a public fraud.
Gays DON’T have a right to serve in the military. You libs really loathe the truth don’t you? Look how angry he gets at the simple recitation of a clear, incontrovertible fact.
I guess it’s because their politicians lie to them so much that they expect everyone to.
P.S. Sean, I’m glad no Republican has ever done a thing wrong. That shows your knowledge of history. I see both parties as having major problems.
To think that only one side of the aisle does something that is objectionable is to set the nation up for a new kind of tyranny, but you won’t think about that fact. That would destroy the unquestioning adoration you Teabaggers have adopted as your new religious cult.
The official dogma of this blog is “Democratic Party people can do nothing worthy good and Republican Teabaggers can do no wrong.”
Check back in with me in a few years. You are in for a very rude awakening from your delusion that only one party ever is guilty of wrongdoing. Whatever you have to criticize Frank for may be nothing compared to what is coming.
So, to eq4all, Barney Frank’s sexuality means he is not to be held to the same standard as other politicians, and gets a pass on his corruption and incompetence. Oh, also people who worked for him said he had a sense of humor, so let’s forget that he built the bomb that blew up the economy.
American Elephant, You say gays don’t have a right to serve in the military, which again proves your earlier point that this blog exists to hide the tracks of the real agenda, attacking gays without seeming to be homophobic.
Our favorite child pornographer, V the K, is back with his made-up “facts” and smarmy slurs against gays. He snaps pics of boys he talks into taking their pants down and then makes up obscene captions for the porn.
Hey, V. Go back to your trailer park; you forgot to cash your government check. Hope you had a good time at your Aryan nation meeting tonight. Isn’t it cool they let you gay-bash on a gay website? It’s not as good as your usual gig, bullying kindergarten kids for being fags, but late at night, it’ll do.
And you got my name wrong, V, but we all know you can’t spell or read or think. All you can do is hurl crude insults. Show us your brainpower Einstein. Add something intelligent to the discussion. You can’t because you don’t know how. But I’ll tell you what, if you’d like to arrange a little boxing competition in real life I’ll whip your cowardly ass.
I can’t stand this identity politics crap. Gays always want to mention their support in the context of homosexuality issues. Who cares who he gets his thrills from in private? If he was a straight politician, would you be saying the same things about him equity4all. And equity4all, those on the left usually support affirmative action (discrimination mostly based on race), yet are against discrimination based on sexual orientation. Question, is it easier to change your sexual orientation or the colour of your skin?
Which goes to show that you have no idea what the f*ck you’re talking about, as if any of your other comments didn’t prove that. I would recommend that you drop the phoney moderate disguise nobody’s buying, but I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that you won’t last the rest of the day.
All you’ve offered is multiple examples of your liberal a-hole hatred and that don’t fly here. You can go felch your beloved madame Bawney Fwank.
Am I understanding this right? Equality4All is making the claim that this blog is NOT a true “gay” entity but merely a front for Tea party operatives? And the only evidence for that claim is that the posters here dare attack Barney Frank on substantive issues?
Wow.
I think the participants on this blog feel an obligation to take Barney Frank to task because they are insulated against the standard “homophobia” invective the Left throws at anyone that goes after a gay or lesbian political figure, akin to black conservatives attacking Obama’s record. They get labeled “Uncle Toms” and “self-loathing house negroes” if they stray from the Left’s template for minority behavior.
I think of this site and its participants as having an “only Nixon could go to China” motivation. I’m sure most here would not choose to go after an openly gay Congressman, but this one is absolutely dangerous economically and politically. The people here reject the Left’s victimhood-based identity politics. They aren’t “covert operatives” for the Tea Party–they are card-carrying members of it who sincerely believe in most aspects of the movements political philosophy who happen to be gay.
Is my assessment accurate?
Mike, you hate “homosexuality issues” but you come to a gay website and say that. And you don’t see the irony. Wow!
And to answer your question, it’s easier to change my skin color than my orientation. Michael Jackson became white, but no gay ever becomes straight (and yes, I know there are bisexuals).
If you don’t like gay identity issues, get off of gay blogs, even this phony one. Go sell your crap to Pat Robertson.
And I don’t have a separate standard for gays, you do. I acknowledged both parties are screwed up. I’m not giving Frank a pass, but what you don’t admit is that Repubs have the very same human nature as any Dem. You deify the conservatives.
People are people. You are pretending that those facts have changed. If teabaggers want to work to get Frank out, that’s fine with me. But to pretend this is a gay site when you have posts that reveal nothing but bigotry towards gays, that is disgusting.
ThatGayConservative is really just our nation’s equivalent of the Taliban. There is only one way, one party, one idea, and all other points of view are damned.
#9: “It is a public fraud.”
And what is it you have against “public fraud,” equality4all? I just gave you a thumbnail sketch of Barney Frank’s well-documented, central role in an outrageous, inexcusable fraud on the public to cover up the fiscal instability of Fannie/Freddie that led to a financial meltdown that cost US taxpayers billions of dollars. And all of this occurred while Frank was the Chair of the Financial Services Committee and sleeping with a high-level executive at Fannie/Freddie (a brazen conflict of interest). Frank has never been investigated for any of this, much less held accountable for it. And on the rare occasion he’s asked a question about his well-known role in the disaster, he refuses to answer, attacks the questioner, and holds a press conference to announce he’s being targeted by evil right wing forces and harassed because he’s gay.
So, yeah,…please don’t try to pretend you have a problem with “a public fraud.” You’ve plainly taken the position that it’s “hateful” for me to want Barney Frank held accountable for his unethical and criminal conduct and I should have simply supported his reelection because he’s gay and reportedly has a sharp sense of humor. Sorry, unlike yourself, I don’t support unethical, corrupt politicians just because they suck di*k.
disfrontman, you at least admit this is a tea party blog, but gays are an endangered species here.
The name is dishonest. Look at the posts. There are way more people calling gays names than there are gays posting, and I don’t mean just on this one topic. Look through the whole mess and add them up. The math will astound you if you include the poster’s comments section.
You put words and conclusions in my mouth. I don’t give Frank any special privileges. That’s my whole point. The entirety of my gay agenda is to be treated equally with all other citizens. When I can marry, serve openly in the military and not have to risk losing my job (still legal to fire for being gay in dozens of states, including my home state of New York)
I hate to break it to you, but it wasn’t actually up to me to fire Frank; I don’t live in his district. If he did something wrong, he will have to pay if he gets caught, just like you straight people here who hate gays so much. If you commit a crime you can face legal action.
#11: “You are in for a very rude awakening from your delusion that only one party ever is guilty of wrongdoing. Whatever you have to criticize Frank for may be nothing compared to what is coming.”
equality4all, I’m not suffering from any delusion. Republicans are capable of unethical and criminal conduct. The difference is, I want Republicans who are guilty of corruption or crimes to be stripped of their public office and thrown in jail. You, on the other hand, believe that Barney Frank should not be inconvenienced with “hateful,” “homophobic,” and “bigoted” questions about his unethical/criminal actions while serving in Congress and as the Chair of a powerful committee because he’s gay. Like Frank himself, you can’t even bring yourself to acknowledge the allegations I’ve listed–you refer to them as, “Whatever you have to criticize Frank for.” It’s unbelievable (but typical of liberals).
You see, equality4all, the more comments you post, the more definitively you prove that you don’t believe in equality for ALL. You believe that Republicans and “teabaggers” should be held accountable for their actions (so do I), but that gays like Barney should be given a pass because, well…he’s gay, of course! And he’s like supportive of civil rights or something. To actually demand him to adhere to the ethical standards applicable to public servants would be, in your view, “hateful” and “oppressive.”
Again, there’s nothing unique about your garden variety leftist views and double standards. You just keep digging the hole deeper. It’s sad.
gods, I thought we had a better kind of troll. At least gillie is funny and not a bitter self loather like equity…
Tell me equity… do people with Parkinson’s have a ‘right to serve’? Or ADHD? Or depression? Or parapaligics?
Of course answering those questions would require you to actually think and reason, so I don’t expect answers.
What I do know is that we have posters and commenters who have or are serving in the military. They’re able to do things I’m not sure I could. And they have my deepest respect for the sacrifices they’ve made.
We have politically active people here, straight and gay, who are able to judge their fellows by the content of their character, not the gender of their bedmates. Your constant whining prattle is just that. A tale of sound and fury, told by an idiot, signifying nothing.
You don’t even understand what makes this blog worth reading, I doubt you can. Most all the regulars here are conservatives with a few moderates (waves to MM) tossed in. We don’t claim to agree on everything, but we can talk like rational adults.
When you can, maybe your points will have some merit.
This is like talking to the Rainman. I keep saying everyone should be equal under the law and ideologues like Sean keep saying I’m giving Frank a pass because he sucks. Sean, that is homophobic as well as retarded. And I have no control over Frank’s legal matters.
If the crimes really happened, Frank would be in jail but I forgot only the Right wing echo chamber knows about these “crimes.” What a bunch of bull. I guess they have no investigators in Boston or DC.
No one here wants to admit that this site was set up to attack gay people. A Right wing group like NOM paid a guy to set this up so they can attack guys like Frank because “they can’t call it homophobic if Barney Frank is attacked by homos.” That was not my statement; it was someone with the screen name American Elephant.
If the problem was only Frank, then tell me which gay candidates did this blog back for office this week? NONE, NOT ONE SINGLE GAY CANDIDATE FOR THIS NOVEMBER’S ELECTION; a supposedly gay blog backs no gay people for office. Oh, that’s right, we don’t do identity politics here. Then why the hell do you call it GAY patriot? You don’t see the irony, but it’s obvious. Change the name if you are serious about not playing the sexual identity card. You can’t have it both ways.
The_Livewire, I served and I had ADHD, so yes, all who are able to serve should be able to serve. But you are now saying that gays are disabled, like some person who is inflicted with Parkinson’s or some other dreadful disease. No gay person would make that kind of statement. What are you doing on a gay site if you don’t believe in gay identity politics?
Obviously, you are part of the tea party, a group that wants to turn back progress to a few hundred years. But change the name of this site. The few gays that are actually here don’t believe in gay identity poltics, so they don’t need the name now, do they? the Gay Patriot should be, by your own description, the Tea Party Patriot.
The typos are coming in, so I’m going to bed. But, really, folks, if you are the dedicated tea partiers you finally admit to being, tell the world the truth by changing the name of this blog to the tea party patriot. I promise that I will never bother you again if you do. Carry on with all your ideology, but leave us gays out of it.
Challenged to defend Barney Frank’s corruption and incompetence, eq4all unleashes a series of crude insults while never answering the question. Interesting.
#28: Oh, but didn’t you read comment #25, V the K. equality4some made it perfectly clear that he has “no control over Frank’s legal matters.” And besides, if Barney’s supposed “crimes” hadn’t been invented by the “Right wing echo chamber,” then he would be in jail. That’s reasonable, right? I mean, equality4brainiestgaycongressmanonly has a valid point–Boston and DC has their own investigators and it’s their job to investigate political corruption. And by “investigation,” of course, I mean run a quick search or two on google and youtube to verify Barney’s central role in the mortgage collapse, his fraudulent misrepresentations in Congress, and shameless conflict of interest while sharing a bed with a high-level Fannie/Freddie executive.
No, it’s obviously NOT equality4mememememe!’s job to look all that stuff up. Besides, he was SUPER busy researching all of those obscure Capitol Hills surveys from 5 or 6 years ago that conclusively prove Barney to be totally awesome and the number 1 Congressman like…EVER.
And wonderfully predicable, equality4me falls into my trap.
I’d point out that I have a friend who was rejected from the army because of his ADHD and need for adderol, another who was a deeply closeted crossdresser who hid his depression for years because he didn’t want a psyche discharge.
And best of all, e4none claims military service. Wow, so he’s admitting that gays can serve in the military.
If e4n actually had the ability to use a search function, a novel concept I know, I’m sure he could find my posts where I have said I think that DADT needs to be ‘repealed and replaced’. I’ve pointed out that gays have served in the military since Von Steuben. Instead he tries to assign malice to my motives, malice which to anyone who knows me, doesn’t exist.
Like I said, I remember when we had a better quality troll.
As to this trolling line: “What are you doing on a gay site if you don’t believe in gay identity politics?” I’ll ask the troll. “What are you doing on a conservative website if you don’t believe in conservative politics?”
Damn straight I don’t believe in ‘identity politics’. I don’t whine that computers are built for right handed people, that roads are biased against left handed people or any sort of insanity like that. I outgrew my whiny baby stage 30+ years ago.
Intead our newest troll is reduced to the ‘No True Scottsman’ argument. to wit, “No gay person would make that kind of statement.”
Can we please get a better quality liberal to have debates with? I mean I can hold a conversation with darkeyed, and I miss Pat.
#27: “Carry on with all your ideology, but leave us gays out of it.”
Right back at cha’, equality4all!
And it’s also funny that equality4some thinks he and his pal Barney been treated harshly here. He should hang out at AoS HQ some time.
I guess you had to be there. Anyway, the point is, those guys really REALLY rip into trolls there. He’d be crying. Seriously, there would be tears.
#32: OMG, I love the guys at AoS and their “the rules are…there ARE NO RULES” approach to dealing with intellectually inferior, dippy, beta-male trolls. equality4dummies would go spontaneously blind and deaf from the well-deserved abuse he would get within 120 seconds of spouting a precious little tid-bit like this over at AoS:
“B. That shows that this is a bogus blog.”
I mean,…JESUS…this foolio is making “forays” into local politics and is so clueless that he walks around in public entertaining the notion that some voters supported Bielat because well,…that Barney Frank is just too darn curmudgeonly, dad-gummit!
There is just soooo much gayleftspeech to wade through in the comments above–once equality4corruptcongressionalcurmudgeons found a tiny nail to hang his “hatespeech!” accusation hat on, the crazy just kept a comin’. I just scrolled through again and happened to see the words “Pat Robertson” (an older meme, but it checks out), and did I hallucinate this, or did the histrionic queen actually challenge you to a real life boxing match somewhere around comment #16? Ummm…okay…nothing says “tough and scrappy in a boxing ring” like a guy who just moments before was chatting about a recent “luncheon” he attended in West Hollywood and who apparently found the discussion on this blog to be so objectionable that he was compelled to type: “ThatGayConservative is really just our nation’s equivalent of the Taliban.”
Yeah, she sounds real menacing–careful, V the K, if you get in the ring with equality4westhollywoodluncheons, he would hold you down and give you the bad makeover of your LIFE. (How exactly does one “box” with a Pepperidge Farm Pirouette?)
Sean Bielat makes me think of Allen West and how he lost in 2008, but came back in 2010 more seasoned, better financed, and defeated an entrenched incumbent in an overwhelmingly Democrat district. I wonder how many awesome candidates like Sean Bielat could be a success the second time around.
LMAO!
Well that all was constructive wasn’t it. I know everyone (and I’ll include E4all) actually had some good points in there and I find it a shame that no one on either side of this debate could avoid getting so heated that a lot of juvenile petty attacks were made against each other.
I understand this was a very tense and emotional election but we really need to calm down and take stock and acknowledge that both parties have some major problems.
First, E4all needs to understand that any good FrankenWhiner did for the gay community has long been outweighed by the damage he did to the economy. This fiscally conservative gay does NOT consider him a valid role model and the time that he would be a relevant public leader has long past.
What Sean, American Elephant, Dan, etc. need to understand that there is an opportunity to catch of wave of new gay voices and supporters like me who are thoroughly disgusted and horrified by what the hypocritical homophobes Reid and Obama have wrought on this country aided by spineless morons like Pelosi. It seems there was a lot “man up” posturing whether the comment came from a male or female poster.
I am asking for civility and understanding as conservatives like me explore whether we can feel safe to express our views. I am all for a good enthusiastic and rational debate as much as the next person and usually find that prevails in the threads on Gay Patriot. This is not one of them so far but I’ll give it a go.
Ideally, identity politics is not constructive but I think it would behoove us to seek out good fiscally conservative members of the GLBT community to run for office. And while many of you may not approve of using the judicial route to end Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, I don’t care at this point because I have a right to see my tax dollars do the most for the fight against terrorism and not be diverted to diminish our military’s effectiveness by discharging some of our best and brightest for stupid reasons.
The pay-off would be more active participation by new blood and possible swaying of some voters in future key races and the diminishment of the power wielded by the Pat Robertson’s and the damage they cause to the conservative movement by forcing their stances which are anything but conservative.
Thanks guys and Dan, feel free to use Frank-en-Whiner in the future. 🙂
*Facepalm*
Will Barney Frank retire since he’s going to lose his seat on the various leadership commissions he chairs? Frank will be basically shunted into the bowels of the House given the shear numbers of new Republicans.
“Frank will be basically shunted into the bowels of the House…”
Must… not… make… jokes…
When Barney Frank returns to the House, he’ll have to start at the bottom and get used to Boehner banging the gavel.
OK Serenity – I’ll address your snippets. The Juvenile petty attacks I referred to was the name calling at each other i.e. those of us posting on this forum. I notice you didn’t find any of those in my post… just politicians. The names I’ve called those politicians who have ruined our lives and economy with abandon are quite tame compared to the raw feelings they have triggered in many of us. And the names I’ve called them have many instances of fact to back them up.
Reid (a Mormon by the way) making the evil, calculated move of tacking on the DREAM Act to DADT repeal to make sure it failed; Obama fawning over his blatant homophobe chum Rahm Emanuel; Nancy “D’uh, I trust this Health Care bill will work even though I didn’t read it” Pelosi; Barney Frank chewing out liberal blogger Michaelangelo Signorile for actually asking a tame question that he didn’t feel like answering.
We need to stop lashing out at each other or taking personally any criticism of these clowns of either party running the country… because by definition, they barely resemble the rest of us and it gets worse the longer they are steeped in the Washington DC beltway brew. The only Us vs. Them that is constructive is Us taxpayers living our lives in this great country and Them folks who live to gain political office and get off on showing how much power they can lord over the rest of us.
PopArt,
I’ll agree with you that we, the people, need to unit to tell the elites where to go. That said, some people who post here, whether they believe themselves to be intellectually superior to anyone who disagrees with them, or accuse others of being child pornographers without any proof can not be reasoned with, and should be shown as the vile (or Vial, if you’re with the NAACP) people they are.
Yikes. I had been skipping over e4a’s posts, as pretentious / boring. So I missed the transformation. Wasn’t it (e4a) an “I just want people to be nice” type of concern troll, only 24 hours ago? Scary transformation, but now we see the real agenda, at least. A hate-filled individual.
What you miss is that my primary objection to name-calling is not one of civility, but of effectiveness.
The justification or lack thereof when it comes to name-calling is entirely subjective, and liable to get any debate mired in whether such justification exists or not rather than discussing the underlying actions that caused you to use such names. Why not just bring up the underlying actions in the first place? You clearly know them all off by heart so you’ve little excuse to do otherwise.
I’ll try to keep this part to a minimum since it is just a side-issue.
Point being? Seriously, what the hell does Harry Reid religion have to do with anything other than possibly demonizing about him not being a ‘proper Christian’?
It was certainly calculated, but primarily as a way to get Republicans to vote against immigration reform and gay rights at the same time. I don’t see how you get ‘homophobic’ out of this though, ‘manipulative’ may be a better word. A homophobe would not propose repealing DADT in the first place.
Sources? I’ve heard many things about Rahm Emanuel, but not this.
You really can’t hold off the insults for five seconds can you? I’m not even going to address this crap unless you rephrase it.
I didn’t pay much attention to Barney Frank’s campaign since I didn’t see much point, is there a video of this somewhere?
This is the great irony of the Tea Party. You rail against how politicians are practically a different species after being corrupted by Washington politics, then get the people you say are free from this, and send them to Washington to get corrupted!
What is your solution? Everyone seems to agree that the American government is broken, but what do you actually think is the way forward on this? How do you stop the corruption? How do you stop the corporate welfare? How do you bring spending down to a sane level? Aside from bitter name-calling, you’ve brought nothing constructive and should either put up or shut up.
Thank you for your well stated refutation, Serenity. You were passionate but sane in your arguments. I do mean that sincerely.
OK, here goes. First I definitely made a mistake in leaving in the side note of Reid being a Morman. I had intended to use it to illustrate Reid’s homophobia and that is the one part of my post I had meant to remove or rephrase before posting. That one is definitely my bad.
As for his homophobia, I will admit to making an inference but you must admit that it is a wonderfully diabolical action on his part. He gets to come across as supportive because it was again the Republicans that did the dirty work of voting down DADT… just like he was counting on them to do. While I can’t empirically prove his homophobia, you can’t really prove the opposite. If cold-blooded and pragmatic enough, why wouldn’t a homophobe bring up the legislation after first affixing a self-destruct booby trap on it? It may be instinctual and subjective on my part but I have rarely picked up such a reptilian and evil vibe from a politician as I have with Reid after that vote.
As for Emanuel, there are many articles on the web about a phone conversation he had with David Mixner. Mixner was trying to get through to his buddy Bill Clinton to protest his punting on gays in the military. Rahm ended the call with a statement that Clinton had already done more than enough for “You People!” and hung up on Mixner. When Emanuel left the administration to go run for Chicago mayor, Obama threw an elaborate going away ceremony that was practically on the level of when Bush awarded Donald Rumsfeld the Medal of Freedom. Why?
Regarding Pelosi, when you take away the word “D’uh” you essentially have the words she uttered on camera when urging passage of the health care bill. She clearly admitted to reading very little of the key passages.
Barney Frank’s interview with Signorile occured over a year ago and audio excerpts from that exchange were posted for a while on Signorile’s site.
One solution I do offer is reduction term limits…. as in TWO YEARS…..PERIOD!! I know it’s a pipe dream but some kind of curtailment of the unlimited terms of office now availed by those in Congress would go a long way toward fixing things. Also in New Jersey, we passed a ballot question that specifically directed and restricted the use of monies in the state unemployment fund for only the purposes for which it was intended. If the public could have nation wide votes or compel politicians to pass directives on use of Social Security, pensions, Medicaire etc. there would be less temptation to dip into some of those delicious pots of money where it would be easy not to get caught.
I will endeavor to reflect and offer up more solutions. Thank you again for keeping me as honest as possible.
Maybe Barney Frank is upset he won since he will return as persona non-grata in the House of Representatives? Most of his corrupt buddies are either dead, going on trial, or irrelevant. Barney Frank needs to be go on trial as well for Fannie & Freddie. I can see why he’s so grumpy.
I’m so glad I don’t live in this district.
Barney Frank is a corrupt gasbag that has sabotaged most efforts to move DADT repeal forward, let alone ENDA, so is unworthy of even the bare minimum of attention let alone my vote. I half-serios enough to contend that the majority of his constituents didn’t vote for him because they actually like the guy, they just wanted to get him out of their district for 2 more years by sending him way off to DC. As someone who lives near DC let me say that this does not amuse me.
As for Bielat, I wouldn’t have voted for him either mainly because of his complete ignorance about DADT (rarely does the Boston Herald get things right like this). The claims made by Chris Barron of GOProud that Bielat supposedly has an “open mind” about DADT were beyond ridiculous. It’s all a shame really because Bielat’s own military record would have drawn my interest immediately in his candidacy, as well as his more conservative fiscal views.
I guess I would have voted Independent for the heck of it.
Actually, this is the most singular sentence in that entire article.
Well it beats being a rambling, bipolar moron, doesn’t it?
Well sure, but if you’re full of shit, expect to be notified. Equality4douches there is chock full of bullshit one could smell a mile away with his first comment.
Yikes. “Exploring whether you can feel safe to express” your views anonymously on a blog in a country that is still free politically, at least: that is some grade-A B.S. right there. Man up, indeed.
#48: “Well sure, but if you’re full of shit, expect to be notified. Equality4douches there is chock full of bullshit one could smell a mile away with his first comment.”
You said it, TGC. Civility is for conservative commenters with differences of opinion and non-conservatives who raise issues and ask sincere questions based on what the conservatives on this site ACTUALLY BELIEVE. Eek4Ugly was the same garden-variety dumb-ass who comes to this site determined to scold conservatives for what his ignorance and prejudices have convinced him conservatives believe. His spastic, bizarre, interminable responses quickly verified that he was a useless troll deserving of the harshest ridicule. Evil4Equality certainly does not represent some squandered opportunity we missed to convert a fence-sitter fed up with Democrats and genuinely interested in hearing about conservative ideas. Most of us have gotten to where we can “name that troll” in three notes (and dispense the necessary, withering criticism accordingly).
While Frank has done incredible damage to America and is the person perhaps MOST responsible for the housing bubble and its collapse… the person I feel most sorry for is his boyfriend.
Imagine the karma of their household.
Ouch.
Barney Frank should have embarrassed himself fatally when it was revealed that he was a key facilitator in the destruction of the mortgage market, and thus the American economy. But Massachusetts elected him again.
Perhaps you should abandon your mockery of Barney Frank (who has firmly ensconced himself in the realm of self-parody,) and spend more time mocking the citizens of Massachusetts.
But perhaps it’s more rewarding to squabble amongst yourselves. Carry on.

Not gay but bemused by the way the gay factor has been thrown around here. Fact is, Barney is bad news. He is incredibly stupid for a smart guy (didn’t notice his renter was a ho, didn’t notice Jim Ready was growing dope, didn’t notice his lover was scoring big bonuses from the business that Barney regulated, didn’t notice that the businesses were in a death spiral). He is incredibly bitchy for a public servant. He has caused trillions of dollars of damage to the economy, whether from corruption or sheer bloodymindedness I could care less. He needed to be gone this November but somehow his district was persuaded to keep him on. Fine. He’s a piece of stinking carrion to be endured for another biennium and, God willing, not beyond.
This has nothing, nothing, nothing to do with where he puts his junk. When are you going to stop being so self-absorbed?
If not for the two very liberal cities in the north of our district Brookline and Newton, the race would have had a difference of only 2600 or so votes.
It’s these 2 cities who keep electing him, not the rest of the district.
He said he’s always wanted to retire at 72. Let’s hope he means it.
Ya know what drove BF nuts, Dick Armey, BF was so effen jealous that Dick had such a fab name and BF is just plain old BF, you betcha
Fellow conservatives, we should NOT attack Rep. Frank. Attacking creates and empowers defenders. Instead we should mock him. Never get angry, but always laugh at the biggest laughing stock in Mass/ Democratic Party/ Congress, etc. Humor is almost impossible to effectively defend and wins converts.
This post makes me happy in the pants.
There appears to be support for leaving Barney alone on his malfeasance with the country’s financial well being simply because he’s been supportive of gay causes. So if one is gay, a “good” gay, one can be the bringer of a recession, be responsible in part for thousands of people losing their homes, their jobs, and their retirements. But it’s okay, if you are gay and help gays.
There could be no better reason to keep the ban on openly gay military members than such blind support.
Well, call me a homophobe if you must…but I live in Montrose (Houston,TX) and have a number of gay friends and acquaintances…and Barney Frank is beyond question the crookedest faggot in the history of donkey $h!t socialism…mean, nasty, and worst of all,a sore winner
“Can we please get a better quality liberal to have debates with?”
No. This is about as good as they get.
Oh, and you Teabaggers need to be more civil and respectful. If you weren’t exactly like the Taliban and every bit as bad as Osama bin Laden, you’d realize how expressing your Nazi opinions is ruining intelligent, rational, reasonable debate and messing up the whole country.
Barney Frank was at one time my representative. (Thanks to the miracle of gerrymandering, that is no longer the case.) What I always considered most loathsome about the guy was that he was obviously pretty smart, but he never let that stand in his way. He has always been one of the most slavishly sycophantic devotees of the liberal fads of the day, even the most absurd and disastrous ones. If he’s going to act and vote the same as the stupidest person in the legislature, what’s the point? I expect – no, demand – that an intelligent man use his gifts. Barney simply doesn’t pass the test.
As always, a mind is a terrible thing to waste.
As a kindly disposed passer-bye may I suggest you beat your trolls harder? Trolls should be tenderized then grilled. Eating is not necessary but some do enjoy it…or so they say.
I lived in Rhode Island for thirty years. I’m deeply cynical about political corruption in the Northeast. I’m not at all convinced Barney *did* win, fair and square.
Which could explain his gracious speech afterwards.
Hard to believe the only qualification for congress is deciding to be gay. And if you do decide to be gay you can get away with all the antics that Barney has done.
I agree with Sean that the military should set the entry criteria. People who decide to be gay or alcoholic or vegan do not have a right to serve just like being short or overweight. It is just an agenda item so anyone can decide anything with no consequence and they can still feel normal and excepted. Because feeling good about yourself no matter the reality is so important (also see public school grading)
Wasn’t BF’s BF heckling Sean? And Jimmy took hits?
Be vewy vewy quiet. He’s hunting wabbits.
I really hate to disagree, but engaging in too much or mean-spirited mockery will ultimately bring everybody down. Constantly exposing Barney’s insanity is a great idea, but treating others with respect, especially your “enemies,” shows class & grace. In the long run, that is what wins hearts & minds.
The best way to defeat Frank is to run a gay man against him in 2012. Then the focus can be on Frank’s corruption and the hundreds of billions of dollars of taxpayer money that Fannie and Freddie will steal, rather than on social issues.
For video of Sean Bielat’s concession speech, see http://lucidicus.org/videos.php
Barney Frank’s beliefs & actions with regard to housing/Fannie/Freddie have been bad for America. I don’t understand how someone can be good for gays if they’re bad for America.
The fact is that we stand on the brink of a financial gulf that threatenes to swallow us (and not in a good way).
Issues such as gay marriage or DADT are puny in comparison. Please get your priorities straight! Our financial security is the first vanguard of our national security.
“If the crimes really happened, Frank would be in jail but I forgot only the Right wing echo chamber knows about these “crimes.” What a bunch of bull. I guess they have no investigators in Boston or DC.”
eq4all, I’m sure that when the subpoenas begin to fly next year, you will be as eager as the rest of us for the truth to be told.
“if you are the dedicated tea partiers you finally admit to being, tell the world the truth by changing the name of this blog to the tea party patriot. I promise that I will never bother you again if you do. Carry on with all your ideology, but leave us gays out of it.
Comment by equality4all — November 4, 2010 @ 7:14 am – November 4, 2010”
Once again, the left strives to silence dissent in the name of identity politics. They hold the trademark of “gay” just as they hold the one for “black/African-American” and also the one for “feminist.” Do you really expect us to accept a good/evil polarity without exposing it to open discussion?
You don’t need to watch all ten minutes of his “victory” speech. Here’s the essence of Barney in 15 seconds:
http://www.youtube.com/user/DrinksWithCurly?feature=mhum
Sorry for the double post.
Thanks, Curly – 15 seconds of Barney is about all I can take.
I was thrilled to be one of the volunteers he thanked.
When I say he had a group of tireless volunteers, I understate. (I was standing next to Raphaela when he mentioned her and she burst out crying. WHAT dedication and single mindedness she had.!)
There was a small group of us who worked in one of his offices and if Sean decides in the future to run for anything, we’ll be baaaaaaaaaack.
It was an honor.
He’s an exemplary man.
Well, I would like to bring Bawney Fatman’s “pinkness” into the discussion. In fact, I want it put front and center! Let’s talk about Bawney’s complete lack of discretion when it comes to choosing lovers. In the past 20 years he had, as partners, a gigolo running a “business” from his living room (Bawney claims he had no idea), a pothead who was growing “plants” in the back yard of the vacation home in Maine (the roly-poly fat dude claims he did not know what they were), the FNMA chairman who used his relationship to protect his “gravy train” from oversight, and, most recently, Mr. Reddy who cannot keep his yap shut in public.
If Bawney were straight his serial bad relationships would be a major campaign issue (think Gary Condit/Chandra Levy or John Edward, Rielle Hunter and their love child). This man is an embarrassment to himself and anyone who supports him. This says nothing of the immense security risks implicit in his whoring about.
I imagine that the people of Massachusetts are enamored by their broadmindedness in keeping this simultaneously “brainy” yet utterly clueless hack in office.
Isn’t there a gay conservative seeking office who could allow them to feel virtuous without jeopardizing the country?
Why social conservatives are a danger to the TEA Party Movement
Because their hatred leads to killing gays.
If they aren’t libertarian I ain’t voting for them. And I’m not talking Libertarian Party. Those fools know squat about geopolitics.
Oh, stop with the b.s. about Tea Party people killing gays. Just because someone is a social conservative, it doesn’t mean they condone murder, not does it mean they have hatred for gays, or for anyone.
And some people wonder why the fringe element gets hysterical! Get a grip on yourself.
The nation’s most famous advocate of violence against gays is a registered Democrat and delegate to the Democrat national convention.
Which should be surprising to no one who’s aware of the party’s history.
gays have no right to serve in the military
The point is that Scott Blielat was right. Gays DON’T have a right to serve in the military. Nor do short people. Nor do women, or men, or anyone else. No one has a right to serve in the military. No one. Service in the U.S. military is a privilege granted to those whose abilities and characteristics are such that the people running the military think they’ll be a net asset to the military and the country.
Now, you may think that being gay should have no bearing on this. Perhaps so, although the people running it do and the people in it do. But let’s get rid of the “gays have a right to serve in the military” language. No one has a right to serve in the military. Or, perhaps more accurately phrased in this context, no one is entitled to serve in the military. If there is any organization where individual rights are secondary to the needs of the institution, it’s the military.
