CNN Gives Crackpot Attention he Craves

I regret that I have not had much time to blog in recent days, but have been busy preparing the final draft of my dissertation as well as practicing my defense which I will deliver later today in Carpinteria.

Friday, while at the gym, I got my daily dose of CNN and was appalled that that “news” network was giving a lengthy platform to an attention-seeking hate-monger.  They even showed an extended clip of the self-proclaimed Reverend Phelps talking about how Elizabeth Edwards had entered hell — or some other nonsense (in their extended segment on his latest stunt).

Didn’t Mr. Cooper know that he was playing right into that crackpot’s hands by giving him such attention?   Because that is exactly the reason the man protests funerals.

  1. but, but, the media has show those crazy “rightwingers” doncha know! The stupid progressive media believes they are setting up Conservatives by having those ignorant half-breeds on, just as with that “preacher” in Florida. They just don’t get that a majority of Americans would NEVER agree with either nor would they think they are Conservatives/Republicans but the MFM believes it and so they give them a platform.

Except that Phelps is a card carrying democreep. He’s one of theirs. CNN probably never mentioned that little tidbit of course.

  4. This smeg head says worse things than MediaMorons could ever manufacture Rush, Hannity & Levin said and CNN gives him camera time?

  5. What is the size and reach of Phelps’ “congregation” and ideology? When I first came to this site, some commenters were using him as the poster boy for homophobia, but, at the time I had never noticed him.

Why do the lefties always get all stirred up by religious bigots? It is not as if the bigots have any sort of Joan of Arc appeal and lead either sheet draped Klansmen or these uber-armed militia that are supposed to control large portions of Southern or Western states. Do the lefties just need a boogie man behind every tree?

The Phelps funeral gig has come up against the TEA Party smack-down. He has managed to stir the mighty beast of decency and his ACLU First Amendment squad “rights” band of loonies has been met with a far bigger parade of true believers than he can muster.

CNN is just doing the old “nuts and sluts” tabloid crud that brought down Dan Rather. If you can’t make it being useful, manufacture what the professional wrestling front row crowd will pay to watch.

  6. Phelps’ congregation is primarily just his own inbreed family, and I suspect he’s a self-ordained “Reverend” in the style of self-ordained Pentacostal tradition. Their “church” is their home, and they pay no taxes nor have any assets outside that of the “church”….similar to the financial dodge the Rev. Al Sharpton’s used for years to avoid paying the judgment against him in the Twara Brawley episode. Even the shirt on his back belongs to the “church” and is provided by the Lord…and gullible contributors.

  9. The old, failing main stream media fascinates me.
The big news of the week should have been…..
liberal and socialist DEMOCRATS saying F*** You to the 44th President of the United States. The first African American, community organizer President. Just imagine the horrific fall out if that had been Republicans or conservatives telling Obama where to go.
Compromise, let’s get along, reaching across the aisle, have all collapsed into this F*** You heap of smoldering Democrats in disarray,
Gosh it’s a long way from HOPE AND CHANGE. Two short years, don’t they go by in a blink…..

  10. another perspective:
As people of faith and leaders of the Jewish community, we applaud your editorial advocating that Americans be able to serve in our military regardless of sexual orientation.

Expressions of patriotism and dedication to national service, not to mention participation in all facets of everyday life, should know no boundaries.

Jewish tradition teaches that all people are created in the image of God. As such, all human beings should be valued and respected, and their contributions to society honored.

While it is true that the Hebrew Bible condemned homosexual behavior, our Scripture did not understand what we know today about sexual orientation – that both heterosexuality and homosexuality are inherent, inborn traits, natural parts of the wide spectrum of human behavior. Accordingly, distinctions based on sexual orientation should never form barriers to military service.

We urge Congress to overturn the outdated and unjust policy known as “don’t ask, don’t tell” and welcome our LGBT brothers and sisters into the military family with open arms.

Members of the Westboro Baptist Church, known for its anti-gay protests at the funerals of U.S. soldiers, plan to protest at the funeral of Elizabeth Edwards, the estranged wife of former presidential candidate John Edwards, The News & Observer reported Thursday.

“She INSISTED upon her son’s death, an unremitting disease raging in her body, a whorish husband bringing their family to open shame, & now her death & final judgment,” a press release from the group reads, referencing the 1996 death of Edwards’ son in a car accident and John Edwards’ affair with videographer Rielle Hunter.

“When they were visited from the Most High God with the death of their 16-year-old son, they did not humble themselves before His mighty Hand,” the statement said.

Elizabeth Edwards died Tuesday at the age of 61 following a six-year battle with cancer. Her 16-year-old son Wade was killed in a car accident in 1996 and she will be buried next to him Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh, N.C., following a funeral service at 1:00pm local time at University Methodist Church, also in Raleigh.

The Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church believes that the misfortunes of the U.S. are due to God’s wrath for failing to follow a doctrine that condemns gays, Catholics, Jews and others, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The group has picketed tens of thousands of funerals and other events. The U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments in October on an appeal by the father of a fallen Marine who wanted to sue the group for attacking the character of his son.

  12. I hope Topeka is ready for the hoards of people who will show up to give the Phelps clan a taste of their own medicine when that hateful old piece-of-sh** begins his final descent into hell (preferably after a lengthy and painful illness). I know I will take the day off for a chance to piss on his grave.

It’s a good thing I’m not religious because I sure have un-Christian thoughts about that loathsome collection of human waste.

Shame on CNN, or any news outlet, that gives these mountebanks a platform from which to extrude there coprophagic bile.

  13. The media love Phelps because they can say, “See, everyone who opposes the gay left agenda is just like these people.”

I don’t even think it’s about teh gheys for Phelps and his band. I think they are as much a money scam as PETA, Climate Change, or any other left-wing organization. They provoke lawsuits, then they collect legal fees and awards when their opponents lose on “free speech” grounds. And they get to be on TV. It’s a perfect scam for greedy attention-whores.

  17. I do think Republicans and conservatives should come out publicly and denounce those who threw invectives at the President of the United States. No member of the elected bodies should shout down the President and say F*** Off, even if they are fellow liberals. Conservatives should continue to stand up for righteous govenment that does not diminish the office of the President.

Fred Phelps is an odd mixture of personal traits. He’s both a former civil rights lawyer, and a racist. The multiple bios i’ve read on the man would seem to be in conflict. The only way to resolve the enigma of Fred Phelps is to…..ummm….he must be a proponent of the ‘Separate, but Equal’ philosophy. White Supremacists have been known to support black Presidents by this reasoning. (

Oh and BTW, Phelps is a Democrat and Al Gore supporter from waaaay back. (

For the life of me i cant seem to understand his hatred of Sweden. (‘’ is no longer active)

    Comment by gastorgrab — December 12, 2010 @ 8:19 pm - December 12, 2010

  20. Speaking of Sweden, Fred Phelps may be interested to know that another group of people share his beliefs. Messages of support, directed at the recent failed suicide bombing in Sweden, look like this:

“R.I.P. Taimour Abdulwahab our brother and friend I was just praying and god was told me that I should not listen to what Swedish people have to say due they are a very week people and many of them are just gays or alcoholics. You Racists should be a shame coming to a memorial page and say racist things.

It’s a real shame that none of you died. Over 9000 should have died. Swedish people deserve to die. Allha Akbar! Holy war!”

    Comment by gastorgrab — December 12, 2010 @ 8:50 pm - December 12, 2010

  21. gastorgrab beat me to it: Phelps is/was a Democrat… something usually lost on the left-wing-media people trying to push him forward as (allegedly) right-wing.

For all I know, Phelps might be a racist too. Which is consistent with being a leftist/Democrat: Democrats authored all of America’s racial sins (even the Japanese internments under Roosevelt) up to and including the racial preferences of today; “Nazi” is only the German for National *Socialist* (i.e. left wing), etc.

  22. In many respects, the Phelps harpies damning dead soldiers to perdition is not much different from listening the Ga-ro-fa-lo or Madcow or Olber-mange or Who-pee or Bay-hard or any other liberal spewing a political correctness rant. Just substitute the TEA Party as the target and Phelps is a standard MSNBC player.

  24. Of course the Obamawhore/leftywhore media will NEVER, EVER mention that the “Rev.” Phelps is a D E M O C R A T. Because it is only us knuckle-draggin’ right-wing Republicans that are “anti-gay”. Which reminds me of this. I wonder what the so-called supporters of gay rights say about gay and lesbian people behind their back? I know it is not positive having to listen to them behind the veil of moral superiority. BTW, I do not get why ANYONE gives this nit-wit the time of day.
