Guess Barney just wants to subject himself to more mockery

February 4, 2011 by B. Daniel Blatt

Barney Frank Isn’t Retiring Yet. Well, it would be a good thing for the United State Congress — and public discourse — if this unhappy man set off for Miami Beach and away from the television cameras. But, his self-righteousness and hypocrisy are just too easy to mock.  So, maybe we shouldn’t regret that we’ll have Barney to kick around some more.

And, Barney, let me remind you something Glenn noted, “The mockery has only just begun.”

Barney Frank is already a muppet; he’s just too arrogant & corrupt to realize he’s long become a parody of himself. Don’t forget to flush Barney Fife, I mean Frank, when you leave your office.

this is why I hate politics; it is mean spirited and we should all join Patti Smith and the Green Party; no one there seems to be working at odds…the rest of our government works at odds; republicans against the democrates isn’t anymore. It is the religious right rep. and dem. against the liberal rep. dem. And I bet you would turn straight in a heartbeat if you could go off with Palen and start shooting guns…which isn’t a bad idea. the gun part; the Paylan Part makes me what to hit my head against the wall….and what we really need is to get our kids out of this war, damn it. They are coming home with PTSD and TBI serious enough they are worse off than stroke victims. Our Military Men and Women are serving an ellitist government of oil. That is why we are in Iraq; that is why we are in the middle east; that is why Chaney (who does not need to have a gun in his possession, by the way)–furnishes our military with inferior equipment. How do I know? I had to buy my nephew a set of striker plates because the ones they issued him in Iraq where insufficent to stop a piece of paper from going through….and since I am there, why does the military (and my nephew is not an isolated incident) leave their severely injured soldiers in the field for two weeks after my newphews arm was shredded by an IED when he should have been sent to a hospital immediately instead of going on five more recog. missions, waiting till infection sets in. He is still army, but has had his fifth operation on his arm/hand. He needs another one know and the kid is still in the recovery room. All for oil; Bush couldn’t see his way out of a bottle and Chaney wasn’t far behind him. If you are the insanely rich, you can do what you want with your people and we are supposed to support that?? Everyone in Congress and the House (99%) have THEIR OWN agenda. And it isn’t seeing that our military get help. My nephew was lucky; he is alive. There are four other soldiers who faced similar circumstances and Needlessly died due to infection because they weren’t treated propery, as human beings, and brothers, fathers, mothers, etc were left behind to mourn the uncalled for loss of their child. I respect our men and women who serve. They know what is going on. This country is fallling apart; and this conflict is sickenly as devistating and useless as the Viet Nam was.

#5 – If a Congressman’s orientation is enough for you to applaud him, then you are no more sophisticated as black voters who put “one of their own” in the White House.

Would you be saying the same thing if it were a gay Republican? Think VERY carefully before you answer, girlfriend.

So, Barney Frank participated in destroying the American economy in a scheme to enrich his boyfriend at Fannie Mae, but he’s supposed to get a pass just because he’s a butt-pirate?

Good Lord, some of you guys need to find yourselves some better role models.

Peter, I am not your girlfriend and I have been a life long democrate. I applaud Barney for being openly gay in congress at a time when that was unheard of. Power can eventually corrupt anyone, strait or gay, republican or democrate, black or white. As I have grown older I have become more conservative. I am looking for people in the gay community who share my beliefs and hopes for a better future.

Here’s a fact: Barney Frank was warned years ago that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were on a disastrous court that endangered the American economy and obstructed every effort at reform.

Sorry, Stephen Miller, but the wreckage of the American banking system / economy that Barney left in his corrupt wake is just too high a price to have paid for that.

  21. ILoveCapitalism says

    February 5, 2011 at 2:51 am - February 5, 2011

(continued) If Barney is some kind of example of gay people in Congress, then he would have to be a negative example: Barney Frank would reflect great discredit on gay people.

  22. Pat says

    February 5, 2011 at 11:23 am - February 5, 2011

Say what you want about Frank. He is only a small part of the problem. The fact that one representative can obstruct legislation is the problem. We need to stop rewarding senility seniority with chairmanships and/or have the role of chair nothing more than secretarial.

  23. Pat says

He is only a small part of the problem.

I don’t recall anyone saying otherwise. However, as the ranking Democrat on the banking committee, as the most vocal opponent of Fannie Mae reform (while he was literally in bed with a Fannie Mae executive), and for being a loud, obnoxious, speech-impeded jerk… he does deserve a great measure of contempt.

Actually, what he deserves to be is tarried and feathered, but unfortunately, we no longer do that to corrupt jackass politicians.

  26. ILoveCapitalism says

    February 5, 2011 at 3:38 pm - February 5, 2011

Barney Frank and Chris Dodd appear to be the 2 individuals in Congress (the latter formerly) who deserve the most blame for the housing bubble and thus the financial crisis.

Yes, there is plenty of blame to go around. The Federal Reserve (Greenspan and Bernanke) deserve the most blame of anyone. Senator Obama, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi were zero help. President Bush expanded entitlements and domestic spending when he should have been cutting them, and began the bailouts that Obama continued. That doesn’t change the fact that Frank was a key rogue – and therefore, IF he is to be taken as an example of “gay in Congress”, a net discredit to gay people.

  27. ILoveCapitalism says

    February 5, 2011 at 3:42 pm - February 5, 2011

(Oh and President Clinton contributed to the bubble when he pushed an expanded CRA, and repealed Glass-Steagall… like I said, lots of blame to go around.)

  28. Pat says

V the K, I get your point. And criticize, tar, and feather him all you want. But he is only one vote out of 435. The fact that House rules grant chairs all this power to obstruct is the problem. Then Frank could be as vocal as he wanted, and it wouldn’t have mattered.

ILC, yes, plenty of blame to go around. But the fact that 1 senator and 1 respresentative has that much power is the big problem. But I suspect nothing’s going to be done the next time there is a crisis. We’ll just look for one or two congressmen who was given tons more influence, to blame again, instead of blaming ourselves for letting these congressional rules go unchecked.
