Budget director previews cuts in Obama’s 2012 plan:
President Obama’s budget director Jack Lew in a Sunday opinion piece outlined some off the “tough choices” Obama is willing to make to cut spending in his 2012 budget request due out on Feb. 14.
Obama to call for $53B for high-speed rail:
President Barack Obama is calling for a six-year, $53 billion spending plan for high-speed rail, as he seeks to use infrastructure spending to jump-start job creation.
An initial $8 billion in spending will be part of the budget plan Obama is set to release Monday. If Congress approves the plan, the money would go toward developing or improving trains that travel up to 250 mph, and connecting existing rail lines to new projects. The White House wouldn’t say where the money for the rest of the program would come from, though it’s likely Obama would seek funding in future budgets or transportation bills.
Michelle Malkin has a little bit of fun with the guy who annouced the project and adds, “High-speed rail to nowhere.”
I wonder if high speed rail from Detroit to Flint isn’t the perfect solution for what ails their economies? Hopefully, they will pay the riders to go back and forth and give bonus checks if they carry luggage. Maybe they could have day care cars where kids would be properly fed and watch government approved social justice movies and they could speed back and forth between the cities all day and night. Of course, they could get off if someone remembered to come pick them up. There could even be a clean needle car. Planned Parenthood could have a “consultation” car. The riders could be unionized and demand more amenities, subsidies and perks. This really could be a major government money pit for the record books. Seize The Future Up.
More smoke & mirrors from the empty suit. President Obama thinks he can rename tax increases as “investments” & talk about Communism without saying the word then people will simply accept it. He’s wrong. Obama is on the road to nowhere.
Besides, how can Obama possess any credibility when he quadrupled the deficit with Porkulius? He kept increasing with each new government takeover with ObamaCare & other infamous deeds. The man is delusional.
Let’s see…..53-Billlion-dollars to benefit maybe 500,000 rail-users. That’s $106,000 per rider, well that makes a lot of sense. It would be cheaper to just drive them to their destinations using ‘black car’ livery services.
Just another red-meat favor for the Big Labor union bosses, since they’ll require PLA’s guaranteeing only union-labor contracts and prevailing-wage union contractors…freezing out most small businesses from the bidding and subcontractor pools.
If they HAVE TO spend the money, at-least spend it on fixing the existing local and highway roads and bridges before yet-another bridge falls into the river.
In 2009, the Obama Regime abruptly “retired” an IG who was investigating corruption at AMTRAK. Coincidence?
Lightning sure does seem to hit the same place over-and-over again in Chicago-on-the-Potomac.
I’ve not heard anything about a passenger’s “bill of rights” yet.
Weren’t the libs pissng and moaning about bridges crumbling into the rivers? Whatever happened to that?
An interesting article (haven’t finished it yet), by a gentleman who’s used high-speed rail extensively, points out that train stations are usually built in the center of towns. Since this was posted, the Lakeland powers that be chose the Clark Rd. site which is 5 miles from downtown Lakeland.
Can’t imagine who that would benefit since there’s barely anything there.

Game over!
High speed rail – the latest test balloon for the Administration. They are running out of fancy sounding “solutions” to our economic plight and stagnant economy. As mentioned above, over $100,000 per rider – why not buy them cars and give them gas cards. The transportation systems in Los Angeles County always run in the red and have to have tax payer subsidies to make ends meet.
