NewsBusters (a site hosted by the Media Research Center) is always a great source to highlight the blatant leftist leaning of what used to be considered ‘mainstream’ media outlets. One of their most visited nemeses is Chris Matthews of MSNBC.
Their latest link for Matthews highlights his comments last night regarding Rep. Anthony Weiner’s current predicament. It’s titled “Matthews: Weiner in Trouble Because His Behavior Offends ‘Culturally Backward’ Christian Conservatives”, and naturally this insinuation by Matthews grabs the viewer for its obvious condescension and elitism. But it seems NewsBusters may have missed an even more curious comment from the huge-headed commentator. As you view the imbedded video, tell me if what Matthews says at 0:10 strikes you as well:
It’s getting very very hard to defend the behavior—politically—of the party. Now you throw on top of that, immoral behavior, indiscreet behavior, embarrassing behavior, gross behavior like this…”
(My emphasis)
Now? “NOW “?!
Where was Matthews when Rep. Massa was playing tickle-fight with his staffers and encountering Rahm Emanuel in the shower? Has he never heard of Barney Frank’s brothel? Elliot Spitzer, Jim McGreevey, and my God, Bill Clinton?!
“NOW“?!
Should we consider from Matthews that all these (and believe me, we could go on all day listing them, no?) dalliances pale in comparison with Weiner twitting pics of his unit to consenting, presumably adult ladies, and that this most recent embarrassment to the party of Jackson and Jefferson is finally the one that sends him over the edge?
Thank goodness for MRC and NewsBusters for watching his incoherent drivel so we don’t have to and can therefore enjoy the snippets of it for what they’re worth: a theater of the absurd.

UPDATE (from Dan): Nick, seems Matthews believes 91% of Americans are “‘Culturally Backward’ Christian Conservatives” given that that percentage of our fellow citizens believe it is “morally wrong” for a married man (or woman) to have an affair.
Agree. Why is he sent over the edge for this? Others like Barbara Walters continue to dig in their heels. Is it the picture of the weiner? Or is the whole ideal just beyond the pale. This is a learning moment, where we learn if the Democrats will let a moment of clarity turn into a moment of more tolerance of bad behavior from our politicians.
It shows the mentality of the liberal left and the Obama Party. Pure, unadulterated, moral relativism, hypocrisy, and hate.
Fortunately, it’s also showing the country that the gay and lesbian community, which has already endorsed the Obama Party unconditionally, also believes that there is nothing wrong with Weiner’s behavior and that anyone who is offended or finds it wrong is “culturally backwards”.
The most hilarious thing to me has been the leftist women who were screaming before about how Republicans oppress women, now having to shut their mouths and back up how it is NORMAL for men to cheat on their wives, that their wives are at fault, and that their wife must work to restore their political fortunes.
Liberal women are slaves who have sold themselves out for the dubious privilege of being able to snip the spinal cords of their newborn babies. Gays and lesbians have singlehandedly through Weiner shown what little regard they have for the values, responsibility, and culture of marriage.
The left has truly proven that there is no behavior that they consider criminal or wrong if one of their own practices it. Period.
Democrats can’t violate their moral principles when they have none.
Amen, Real American!
Morality? How about the idea that Weiner, one of the oh-so-smarter than the rest of us liberal elite, is so f-ing stupid that he sends compromising pics (including one x-rated pic we know of so far) to strangers and then is surprised/angry when the images appear in the wild?
In the meantime, the MSM is all agog combing through emails sent by Sarah Palins when she was governor. Too bad they weren’t as diligent combing through Obama’s past… or covering the ATF gun-running scandal.
How does anyone with a functioning brain cell take these morons seriously?
Reporters for Soviet-era Pravda and the North Korean “news” agency at least have an excuse for their sycophancy.
I’m not surprised to hear Matthers say this, but he’d be singing a different tune if Weiner were a Republican I’d wager. One doesn’t have to be conservative or a Christian to find Weiner’s behavior despicable and morally reprehensible. We know this is true because 91% of the people in this nation are most definitely NOT “Christian Conservatives”.
So, Chris tingle-up-my-leg Matthews thinks you are “culturally backward” if you find infidelity immoral. That’s consistent with the Left’s rabid disdain for traditional, Biblically derived sexual/familial values and its fervent support for sexual “liberation”. This belief system has no bounds. According to it, you’re culturally backward if you find homosexuality immoral, as well. And as the Left’s libertine–to put it mildly–ideology continues to gain ground in America, one day (10 years from now? 20?) you will be culturally backward for opposing “consensual” and “loving” incest, pedophilia, pederasty, polygamy, polyamory, polyandry, bestiality, sado-masochism, etc.
Hasn’t Mathews been the first to scream at any discretion on the part of a Republican. Isn’t it nice to have ones’ cake and eat it too?
#8 He looks like he not only ate his cake, but Rachel Maddow’s too.
(Yes, I’ve no room to talk, it was an easy joke.)
I can’t help but wonder if Mrs. Tingle subscribes to her husband’s view that fidelity to marriage vows is a ‘backward’ notion….
On the other hand, his offensiveness and deliberate ignorance coupled with outrageous hostility makes it a sure thing his name isn’t forgotten in the rush for ratings, eh?
