I thought this guy promised a “net spending cut”

June 22, 2011 by B. Daniel Blatt

In the third debate of the 2008 presidential campaign, candidate Barack Obama said:

But there is no doubt that we’ve been living beyond our means and we’re going to have to make some adjustments.

Now, what I’ve done throughout this campaign is to propose a net spending cut.

Today we read that the Congressional Budget Office estimates that President Obama’s “stimulus” nearly doubled the national debt:

A new report from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) finds that President Obama’s economic stimulus program helped nearly double U.S. debt.

The 2011 Long-Term Budget Outlook, released Wednesday morning, reports that the “the combination of automatic budgetary responses” and Obama’s stimulus “had a profound impact on the federal budget.” According to CBO projections, before Obama’s stimulus became law, federal debt equaled 36 percent of GDP and was projected to decline slightly over the next few years. Instead, thanks in large part to the stimulus, debt reached 62 percent of GDP by 2010.

Under Barack Obama, we’re continuing to living beyond our means.

Dan, your talent for understatement is breathtaking. 🙂

He broke his promise shortly after taking office. Not only did he promise to cut spending but to veto bills that had earmarks and one of the first he signed had a ton of earmarks. His justification, ¨they were pending from the previous session.¨

Obama is still not spending as much as He’d like. That is the “net spending cut”. He has graciously condescended to give us a spending cut relative to government having 100% of the economy, His ideal.

The Federal Debt went from 36% to 62% of GDP under this Democratic President. That’s “Change You Can Believe In” all right.

When the campaign was on, people thought of Obama as a messiah figure whom we would all get behind in a new sense of unity. Instead, he’s turned out to be just another politician.

Notice how BHO has virtually no supporters in here anymore? None most days.
How does this guy win a second term? Today after the Afghanistan speech, the lefites on MSNBC seemed to be so frustrated and mad. With socialists not voting and tons of indies switching from Dem to Republican, I just don’t see how in 14 months this guy has a chance in hell. I mean he fooled a lot of people in 2008. Some of em seem mad as hell. Some folks thought he’d be more of a centrist, some people are furious he’s not even more of a socialist.
And tons of conservatives can’t wait for election day! Shades of 2010.

I guess pretending the warning signs don’t exist has worked so long in Washington, many lawmakers continue their protocol of ducking their heads in the sand and riding the gravy train as long as they can. CBO is yet another validation that our debt, deficit and out of control Washington spending is destroying the United States, and we are on a glide path to Greece unless a new class of leadership can guide America from certain financial disaster. Lastly this is the biggest example yet of the breach of leadership by Obama in his entire tenure as President!

I’m still curious how there aren’t at least a dozen liberals running against him. Was some diktat sent out that anyone who opposes him is a racist?

I just don’t see how in 14 months this guy has a chance in hell. I mean he fooled a lot of people in 2008.

Just like the gays, they’ll whine for a bit and then just bite on the pillow and vote for him again.

    Although,

Finally, Mr. Obama has made a strategic blunder. While he needs to raise money and organize, he decided to be a candidate this year rather than president. He has thus unnecessarily abandoned one of incumbency’s great strengths, which is the opportunity to govern and distance himself from partisan politics until next spring. Instead, Team Obama has attacked potential GOP opponents and slandered Republican proposals with abandon. This is not what the public is looking for from the former apostle of hope and change.

TGC- they’re afraid that if they run against him in the primaries, win or lose, they’ll cost enough momentum to guarantee a Republican win.
In short, their thinking is that it’s better to permatrash the country under a Democrat than it is to possibly pull out of this disaster under a Republican.
    But don’t question their patriotism.
