If Obama misspeaks, it’s not a gaffe, it’s just ignored

June 28, 2011 by B. Daniel Blatt

Michael Barone finds it “interesting that mainstream media journalists who are so eager to zing Michele Bachmann for getting John Wayne’s birthplace wrong, have not been interested in asking whether” President Obama made a mistake last Thursday

. . . when speaking at Fort Drum, he said that SFC Jared Monti was “the first person who I was able to award the Medal of Honor to who actually came back and wasn’t receiving it posthumously.” Alas, he was mistaken. He awarded the Medal of Honor to Jared Monti posthumously in 2009 and awarded the Medal of Honor in person to SSG Sal Giunta in person in 2011.

“You might think,” Barone quips, “that their chief motive is to make Obama look good and to suppress facts that make him look bad.”

Fascinating how many people, based on the immediate past president’s verbal gaffes, assumed he was a dunce. Wonder if they’d have a similar opinion of the incumbent if the mainstream media paid as much attention to his gaffes as they did to those of his predecessor.

UPDATE:  Unbeknownst to me, earlier today Jim Geraghty embedded the clip of former President Nixon speaking the words which inspired the title of this post.

It’s the same mind-set as the Gay-Left who pilloried and viciously and personally-impugned Govs. Huntsman and Christie for not supporting gay marriage and saying it’s up to the States, while Pres. Obama gets a pass for not supporting gay marraige and saying it’s up to the States.

I’m pretty sure that Billinexile is the kind of gay you hate and he, Pamshouseblend, and Joemygod, have consistently and repeatedly called for more from Obama.

Coincidentally BillinExile is a former marine, small business owner and well educated and he hates the conservatives. If you want to know how to get his vote I’d suggest an engagement with him to learn why your platform doesn’t appeal to him. Maybe it’d be a good community bridge?

The LSM and the left will try to do to Rep. Bachmann what they’ve done to Gov. Palin. In 2008 when Hillary Clinton was getting screwed by her erstwhile DNC friends, my then 87 year old mother said that the country would sooner vote for a black man than a woman. In 2011, I think she’s still right. But this time, I think Rep. Bachmann will give better than she gets as she’s had plenty of time in Washington dealing with the slimey press. Gov. Palin was just too inexperienced in 2008 to deal with the LSM. She’s smarter now but not as smart as Bachmann.

Um, Tim, where do you get the idea that we hate certain gays? Just because folks like your acclaimed Bill hate conservatives, you assume we hate our ideological adversaries as well.

And don’t know that we could really engage with someone who hates conservatives. If he does indeed hate us, as you claim, then we probably couldn’t reason with him, his political views are based not on a sober consideration of the facts, but instead an emotional reaction to (those he deems) his adversaries.

And anyway, what does your comment have to do with the post to which you attach it?

Tim can’t defend Chumpy Obamalini, so he has to set up a strawman just like the Catastrophe in Chief would do.

If it were W, instead of O, who has said that there were 57 states, or that people in Vienna speak Austrian, or had wished the Mexicans happy Cinco de Cuatro, we’d be hearing it like a mantra, like “misunderestimate” and “stategery.” But O is, by definition, brilliant. To suggest that he is not is to repeat the racist slur about Blacks and their IQ scores. So there’s just the chirping of birds.

How can you be so lucid in one thread, yet so ignorantly judgemental in another???

    I’m disapppointed, Tim.

Obama can’t even speak with a teleprompter let alone without one. Where’s the picture of President Obama & his teleprompter talking to an elementary school class? It pretty much sums Obama’s presidency thus far. Oh, here it is:

    http://www.truthalliance.net/Archive/News/tabid/67/ID/4455/Obama-uses-teleprompter-in-6th-grade-classroom.aspx

Obama spoke to 6th graders with his teleprompter; it’s so challenging & all.

well, if they reported Obama’s every gaffe, they wouldn’t have room to print anything else……

As usual, Tim’s contribution to the discussion is the rhetorical equivalent of setting a bag of dog shit on fire on someone’s front porch, and ringing the bell and running away.

I am extremely concerned about the foster children Michelle Bachmann and her husband took in. When George Stephanopolous said the media would go after them, I know he wasn’t kidding. By the very fact the children were in foster care shows that there were difficulties in their upbringing. And now the national media is going to pore over their lives like they did the Palin family? Michelle Obama recently said the media protects children; I certainly hope she reminds them when it Ms. Bachmann’s children–but I doubt she will. And that says a lot about her.
