Should say “no, I tend to avoid homophobes and bigots”.

In this city the LGBT activist class is almost totally made up of hard core leftists. Many of whom are of the tenured class that can be found wandering the halls of NYU and Columbia. They don’t all consider themselves “democrats” but I can see where the casual observer might make the assumption.
Although the frequency of folk ‘assuming’ my political bent ‘being right of center’ has significantly decreased . . . it was always fun ‘correcting’ folk.
As I have slipped into a life of tshirts/shorts/jeans, my closet of button-downs, oxfords and slacks haven’t seen the light of day for a long time.
Was often a ‘trophy’ on the arm of many closeted/semi-closeted men on excursions to social and family events, just because folk would often assume my political bent to be on the conservative side.

Now you know what is like to be a Black Republican 😉

My two favorites:
On discovering that I vote for Republicans, “How can you do that? You’re so educated and smart!” My reply, “Well, you do understand after all: I do it because I’m educated and smart.”
When people find that I dislike Democrats and then say, “So you’re a Republican!” My reply is that I am not a Republican, I’m a conservative. Republicans are pussies.
In both cases, these conversations tend to be very brief!
I told you not to wear pink. (:

On a similar note, my high-school-aged son (a huge Reagan fan) was told by a friend of his that he couldn’t possibly be a Republican.
“Why not?” my son asked. “Because you’re not rich, and everyone knows that all Republicans are rich,” his friend said.

I just assume a guy is gay if he tells me he’s a Democrat.
