Lesbians more likely to wed than gay men

August 1, 2011 by B. Daniel Blatt

“Men,” writes David K. Li in the New York Post, “have to be dragged kicking and screaming to the altar – whether they’re straight or gay.”

While several studies have suggested that there are more gay men than lesbians, there have been more lesbian marriages than gay (male) ones by a margin of 3-to-2.  Since the Nutmeg State, for example, recognized same-sex marriages, “3,252 lesbian couples have wed . . . compared with just 2,053 gay guys.”

It does seem women seek to “nest” more than do men.  Guess some of our male fellows just prefer being the lone wolf.

(This is not the first time I’ve noted this phenomenon, but as I came across the (relatively recent) article while surfing the web, thought I would share it with y’all.)

They’re also more likely to have rainbow and/or HRC stickers on their cars. Have you noticed?

    interesting.

Will be more interesting to see what the ‘divorce’ rates are for lesbians vs gay men who get Fredded.

And yet some lesbians are the most blatant womanizers I have ever known.

In the Post article, having kids and knowing who their father is is the major impetus for men to marry (or so it was). What can gay men expect? Even with surrogates, only one man of a married gay couple can claim to be their kid’s biological father. (Or maybe they can decide to take turns with two kids.) To me, as a straight man, having my own kids was important. Gay men has less pressure to conform to traditional marriage trappings since it is structurally impossible. It makes no sense, but that’s what they wanted.

Lesbians are a different sort. I noticed that one woman becomes the wifey and the other is the hubby. One decides to bare the children while the other works. They seem to not care about taking turns experiencing childbirth.

You mean 2,053 *pairs* of gay guys, right? (Else I’d have to ask whom the odd guy married.)
