Government agency blocking gay, lesbian news sources?

October 27, 2011 by B. Daniel Blatt

Amtrak, “a government agency” is, according to Karl Bode on dslreports.com, “utilizing a web filter system on their train Wi-Fi trial that oddly blocks news stories about the gay, lesbian and transgendered communities.”

I’ll bet this comes back to straight guys trying to find a way around filters to get to lesbian porn.

I’m not sure I have a big problem with this in principle. While the content that gets blocked may not make sense in a lot of cases, there is no right of access. It seems to me that the owner of a network is entitled to decide what can and cannot be accessed.

Given the boorish nature of people these days, I suspect those that host public networks run into a lot of problems with people accessing content that more decent people would save for the privacy of their own homes (see Laura Ingraham’s latest book that mentions a guy watching porn on an airplane in full view of other passengers – including minors – telling those that objected to piss off).

If it had been up to me, the guy would have been arrested on landing for showing porn to minors.

Wait, I’m confused. Does Amtrak block ‘news stories about the gay, lesbian and transgendered communities’ as a service that is INCLUDED with the cost of my ticket, or would I have to pay extra to NOT hear about the gay, lesbian and transgendered communities?
