Sure sounds like that way from his speech tonight in Iowa — about going back to Texas to reassess. “With a little prayer and reflection, I am going to decide the best path forward.”
Carl Cameron just said it sounds like Rick Perry “might be winnowing himself.”
It’s too bad, Perry has the best record as someone who actually governs as a conservative. Unfortunately he waited too long to get in and all the real campaign pros were already hired. And the “debates” have focused more on who is the most facile.
It would be nice if Perry could hold out through some actual votes.
If I am any indication of what the candidates are facing, money must be a tough factor. I have been sitting on my wallet watching. Romney got his campaign financially lubricated a long time ago. The others (except Paul) have been grabbing cash on the run.
Perry likely has a group of Texas backers who are in it to win, not just see where Perry ends up. His “reflection” will include a lot of scrutiny of his campaign finances and a come to Jesus meeting with his standing in the polls.
I wonder if he can muster the strength and organization to make it to March. Or, is the Romney steamroller just too powerful?
Looks like I won’t get the chance to vote for Bachmann when the primary comes to town in April. Being a NYC conservative however I’m used to my vote not counting.
Too early for VP talk? Let me toss out a couple of names:
David Petreaus – Well regarded, war hero, would help with Romney’s weakness on foreign policy, should he be the nominee.
JC Watts – Beloved by conservatives, could excite the base the way Palin did for McCain.
