GOProud understands that liberty is America’s animating ideal

Our friends at GOProud get the nature of Ron Paul’s appeal. In his critique of the president’s State of the Union address, Christopher R. Barron, Co-Founder and Chief Strategist for the group offered a nice synopsis of what kind of leader libertarian Republicans want:

The American people – gay and straight – deserve a President who will encourage free enterprise to grow the American economy and create jobs. We need a President who understands that government doesn’t have all the answers – indeed often government is the problem. We need a President who will defend individual liberty and keep Americans safe, at home and abroad. In short, we need a new President.

Nice to see the leader of a gay group commend free enterprise and the ideal which allows it to flourish — individual liberty. And to make clear that we need replace a failed incumbent.

  1. Off topic but as one of the token hetero’s posting here I have to comment on a striking difference between the GOProuds/GayPatiots and Gay Incs/Act Ups. I’ve never been able to get used to the screaming, eye poking, hysteria of LGBT activism permeating this town that has been the norm since the stonewall days. I have to wonder if the homo’s posting here can appreciate the low volume, reasoned, sharing of the American experience laid out in the quote of Mr.Barron. It shouldn’t be taken for granted when your part of a “movement” that is trying to get the ear of the American majority.

  2. Thanks for your comments Richard.

You articulate many of the reasons why GayPatriot began in the first place — to counteract the self-perpetuating stereotypes of the anti-American gay Left.

  3. Hey – who’s up for some pro-freedom, pro-capitalist responses to Obama’s SOTU? I don’t have Ron Paul’s on hand, but here is Jonah Goldberg’s:

    And Peter Schiff’s:

  5. George Will had a pretty good response as well and he really nails progressives like Obama and Levi:

The armed services’ ethos, although noble, is not a template for civilian society, unless the aspiration is to extinguish politics. People marching in serried ranks, fused into a solid mass by the heat of martial ardor, proceeding in lock step, shoulder to shoulder, obedient to orders from a commanding officer — this is a recurring dream of progressives eager to dispense with tiresome persuasion and untidy dissension in a free, tumultuous society.

Which is another way of saying, dragging us kicking and screaming into “the future.”
