Has Yahoo! ever offered the headline:
“Obama won’t tell Maher to dial it down”?

June 1, 2012 by B. Daniel Blatt

A screen capture just a few moments ago from Yahoo!’s home page:

This is news?!? From the article:

Nobody wants to tell Donald Trump what to do or say, and that includes the presumptive Republican nominee for president Mitt Romney.

In an interview this afternoon with CNBC, Romney declined again to condemn Trump’s remarks throughout the week that claimed President Obama was not, in fact, born in the United States.

Asked why he doesn’t just tell Trump to “knock it off” with the birther comments, Romney responded, “Well I disagree with it I think that there’s no question but the president was born in the United States of America.”

Emphasis added.  This is what reporters are asking Romney?  Has a reporter ever asked Obama to, um, well, differentiate himself, from a prominent supporter?   Indeed, has anyone in the legacy media ever raised such a ruckus over a prominent supporter of a top Democrat

And some folks claim there’s no media bias.

FROM THE COMMENTS:  Jenn of the Jungle makes a great point:  “Romney disowned the comments and moved on like a mature individual. I know after almost 4 years of a whining pansy in office we aren’t used to that but come on.”  Exactly.  The presumptive Republican nominee said that he believed the president was born in the United States.

When before have the media tried to hold a politician to account for the rantings of one of his supporters.  Do wonder at the media’s obsession over this.

NB:  Tweaked the penultimate paragraph of this post.

If only Romney could be induced to apologize, preferably endlessly and to every reporter, about every questionable comment any supporter makes. Then we could all get our minds off that awful and economy and how Obama is destroying our favorite country.

It’s very important that the candidates disavow anyone who makes ugly or silly comments, just like Obama has done about Bill Maher’s stupid and sexist comments demeaning any conservative woman.

And the MFM is all like, “McCain would have groveled and apologized.” Yeah, they wish Romney would act like that loser. Even the SCOAMF is lamenting Romney’s failure, thus far, to be McLandslide 2.0

Maher has his own show that deals with politics. Its his bread and butter. Sh!t comes out of his mouth about both sides all the time. He doesnt focus on what will get him in the news. He has his core audience. Like him or not, politics is all he ever talks about. And he gets by with his small viewership partly because HBO actually relies on paying subscribers, unlike most channels, which are mostly ambiguously part of cable packages.

Trump is always trying to get in the news. His show just ended its season and he has no other way of getting in the headlines but by saying outrageous things. Yahoo must have had a slow news day.

Remember trump making the news for demanding someone’s birth certificate? How quickly we forget.

BDB, you really are off your game here.

Why should a private citizen tone it down? Nazi’s.

That being said, Romney disowned the comments and moved on like a mature individual. I know after almost 4 years of a whining pansy in office we aren’t used to that but come on.

Cinesnatch, the issue here is the media focus on Trump. Reporters don’t normally ask candidates to silence their supporters, particularly when, as Jenn noted in comment #5 above, the candidate in question disowned the comments.

Since when has it been media practice to hold a candidate responsible for his supporters — or his duty to silence them?

Is Romney not disowning trump in order that people start to question the hypocrisy when Obama supporters say silly things like Al Sharpton saying that Republicans want to commit genocides?

    Hi BDB,
    Thanks for the response!

Since when has it been media practice to hold a candidatepresident responsible for his supportersdetractors — or his duty to silenceappease them?

    FIFY per the birth certificate

But of course Trump should be aggressively controlled by the Republicans. He is after all an overgrown crying baby with a stupid hairstyle who is known for nothing but squawking angry stuff on late night television and even got fired from one network for being incendiary. He’s never worked at a real job or earned millions through hard work and business acumen and he hasn’t been a responsible parent whose children have grown into decent, non-controversial adults.

Right? Uh…. oh wait, check that, reverse everything… ;-D

Seriously, Trump can be a grand-stander and say some eyeroll worthy quips but frankly if anyone has earned the right to be one, it would be Trump… and he’s earned the right to sport a goofy hairstyle though quite frankly I find Maher’s overgrown mess of a do to be at least as idiotic.

And when you compare the two, I don’t believe Maher has said anything insightful and free of bitterness and pettiness since at best 2005. Meanwhile, Trump’s remarks and observations have been more spot on than not. And in the midst of his desire for self-promotion, there is also someone who care about America and how great it can be again.

And even Trump has moved on from the birther nonsense; it’s the cretins like Maher and Soledad O’Brien who refuse to do so.

Oh yes, that’s right – demand Romney tell him to shut up, and then call Romney a Nazi for suppressing free speech? Sorry, no – we’ll leave suppression of free speech to the Left (google “Andrew Bolt free speech” to see what happened in Australia).

Dan, what a great point that is. This is exactly how media bias plays out. The biased media manufactures crap stories on the thinnest of premises… always to nail the conservative side, never the liberal.

Maher has his own show… Sh!t comes out of his mouth about both sides all the time.

Same with Trump. Your next excuses?

Since when has it been media practice to hold a candidatepresident responsible for his supportersdetractors — or his duty to silenceappease them?

    FIFY per the birth certificate

Per the birth certificate issue? Since June 21, 1788. You know, when New Hampshire became the 9th state to ratify the Constitution of the United States. It has a provision that the President must be a natural-born citizen. Yes, the President (or candidate) is in fact obligated to “appease” his questioners, on that score. (I’m not necessarily sayiing that Obama hasn’t; I’m only answering your dumb question.)

ILC >> In your quest to answer my “dumb question,” you missed the point. Trump will do anything to get his names into the media. He has a history (i.e. birth certificate). If you weren’t so myopically on the attack, we could actually get a dialogue started. But, if that’s not what you’re after, I accept that. Cheers, my friend. Hope your weekend is going well.

Obama himself claimed Kenyan birth for 16 years according to his biography. So, why is it considered insane to be a little skeptical about his origins? Why is it considered nutty to wonder what he is hiding in those college records he steadfastly refuses to release? Particularly since the release of his opponents sealed court records played such a prominent role in his earlier runs at public office?

Because he’s clearly hiding something, and being skeptical and wondering what he’s hiding might lead to him being forced to reveal what he’s hiding. And we can’t have that.

Now as a time-saver, I’ll anticipate your next couple moves.

    – Some blather about when people are ready to have a dialogue… Answer to that is, Cinesnatch, that you would not know a real dialogue if it hit you over the head with a 2×4.

    – Some blather about kisses, rusty, goodnight, etc…. Answer to that is, Cinesnatch, that you are not rusty. He can pull it off, because he is actually a person who means well. To pull it off, you really do need to mean it, i.e. to have the inner reality of it, as well as the outer form. Sorry, champ.

    – Something about not taking me seriously… Answer to that is, then don’t speak to me.

    – “Carthago delenda est” or your equivalent, “I am also of the opinion that NDT must be banned”… Answer to that is, then set a good example by banning yourself first. The more so because Bruce has, in fact, suggested you to.

    There! Saving time.

Gives “slow clap” for ILC, handling of Vince.

On bias. I remember having an extreme liberal poli-sci professor who really didn’t like me (Flash fact, when you ask your class how many amendments there are, make sure you actually know the answer when a student gives you the right one.)

I had to do a paper on abortion. I made a point to use “Pro-life” and “Pro-death” through the paper. She told me it was an F and rewrite it.

So I did, using find and replace to remove “Pro-life” and replace it with “Anti-abortion.” and “Pro-Death” with “Pro-life.” That’s it. I got an A.

IT’s like how Trump asking about the Birth Certificate is headlines, but Hillary asking about it is Page a21 material.
