I expect to have more to say later in the day about HotAir’s interview with our friend Jimmy LaSalvia, but want to keep this post brief to focus on one thing Jimmy said in response to the question about the mean-spirited attacks on GOProud coming from the left:
It seems that it’s OK to use racist, masochistic, anti-Semitic, and homophobic words and phrases when attacking gay conservatives. Nobody in the mainstream media condemns it or comes to our defense. We are fortunate to have a lot of friends in the conservative blogosphere who regularly stand up for us. That means a lot to us, and it gives us the resolve to continue to stand up to the left wing bullies.
Read the whole thing. Emphasis added. Once again (and this reaffirmed in my conversation with Richard Grenell last night), the overwhelming (as in over 90%) of the vicious attacks on gay conservatives come from the gay left, many of which, to borrow an expression from Alan Jay Lerner, “would make a sailor blush“.
Do wonder when our friends in the legacy media will get around to reporting the story of this liberal intolerance.
This is not the first time left-wing bullies have expressed their animus against gay conservatives in hateful terms. Nor will it (alas!) be the last.
This is one of the reasons so many people are disgusted with the ultra-liberals in government. You are their friend until you are no longer on their side, right or wrong. No matter what you have done, you are fine as long as you are on their side politically, but they will despise you if you think differently on any aspect of politics or whatever position they are pushing at the moment. If you have a brain, you will receive no respect from them, sadly.
Word! Sometimes I think we have more friends from straight conservatives than from gay liberals.
Only sometimes? Since I started reading this blog (and other blogs) last year, I have seen a few instances of homophobia from the “right.” However, the number of times I’ve seen bigotry from the left is many times larger. That’s anecdotal evidence, but my experience indicates that the right is much more tolerant than the left (which is especially ironic considering how “tolerant” lefties claim themselves to be).
In my experience, the “meanest” thing those RACIST RIGHT-WING RETHUGLICANS will do to us horrible Jewish Nazi Conservative Self-Hating Gays is pray for us. (I think the key to understanding this is actually pretty simple, rattlesnake, and I’m interested to see if you agree: conservatives tend to think of people in terms of individuals, and “progressives” tend to think of people in terms of GROUPS.
Bastiat Fan, I don’t view anyone who doesn’t judge people as individuals as “conservative.” They’re collectivists. And I’d be skeptical of any progressive who claims to judge people as individuals. I’m not saying it isn’t possible, I would just be skeptical if I were to ever encounter such a thing (which I haven’t yet). It just seems incompatible with the collectivist mindset that progressives have. I think that is exactly why conservatives seem to be more tolerant than progressives.
Yes, Virginia, there really are gay conservatives.
If “God accepts no man’s person,” I don’t feel the need to distinguish straight persons from gay . . . maybe there are a growing mumber of conservatives who believe as I do?
