The Reason For The Season: Happy Independence Day!

July 4, 2012 by GayPatriot

Thanks to Dan for marking July Fourth earlier today. Here is my contribution, with a hat tip for the idea to Moe Lane from RedState.

The Schoolhouse Rock series taught history and grammar to Americans of a certain age. They are unforgettable parts of 1970s pop culture and I this was one of my favorites.

It seems there’s a lot of similarity to this story as the times we are living in today.

No More Kings, indeed!

My Walmart has the whole series on DVD for $10-15 or so. Thinking about going back and buying it on payday. I see where Disney owns it. Didn’t know that.

I remember back in HS, I had to memorize the preamble for a quiz. Was having a tough time of it when I remembered my brother had the series on VHS. Sat down and started watching the tape and learned the song. Went a lot faster than reading it over and over.

I have a CD of most of the music, because I’m kind of a nerd that way. I remember these being on TV when I was a kid – who doesn’t love them? We could use bringing them back.

It sounds like pure right wing propaganda to me.

Conviniently left out the native American Indians who were deprived of their land and rights

History is a horror show, if you are a compassionate person though
Not for the cold blooded imperialist

Yeah George… That’s exactly what you want to teach a five year old. Jeez!

This is what they call a primer. You teach the downside when the kids are, you know, a little older and have a better grasp on things.

PS. Yes, I did learn the preamble directly from this one:

And “I Am Just A Bill” is still a favorite!

#4 – George, if you don’t like this country, LEAVE IT.

    And I’ll help you pack.

    Regards,
    Peter H.

I’m a leftie and I loved School House Rock. Lolly Lolly was my particular favorite, but I also liked the one that involved E-lec-tri-ci-ty, E-lec-tri-ci-ty.

And, as Sonic alluded to, “I’m Just a Bill” was also a classic.

    0 IS my Hero!!!!…..

That would be a “zero”, NOT an “O” which could be short hand for the current president, who, coincidentally, some think of as a zero! 🙂

6: Interesting, I didn’t see anything in his post about not liking the country.
