Reagan & John Paul II Together Again

Wow…

GDANSK, Poland — Polish officials unveiled a statue of former President Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II on Saturday, honoring two men widely credited in this Eastern European country with helping to topple communism 23 years ago.

People look at a new statue of former President Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II that was unveiled in Gdansk, Poland, on Saturday, July 14, 2012. The statue honors the two men whom many Poles credit with helping to topple communism.

The statue was unveiled in Gdansk, the birthplace of Lech Walesa’s Solidarity movement, in the presence of about 120 former Solidarity activists, many of whom were imprisoned in the 1980s for their roles in organizing or taking part in strikes against the communist regime.

The bronze statue, erected in the lush seaside President Ronald Reagan Park, is a slightly larger-than-life rendering of the two late leaders. It was inspired by an Associated Press photograph taken in 1987 on John Paul’s second pontifical visit to the U.S.

Below is the original AP photo and the new statue of these two great leaders for freedom in the last century.

Seems legacy media prefers Obama campaign* as sources**

Yesterday, for the third (or was it the fourth?) day in a row, I caught CNN while doing my cardio.  And once again, it seems that the majority of the network’s campaign/politics coverage originated in left-of-center blogs and Democratic talking points.

Once again, they talking about Mitt Romney’s record at Bain.*** At least on Friday, they finally offered Mitt Romney’s side of the story.  The network, according to Ed Morrissey, is even reporting

. . . that the accusations from Team Obama of felonious conduct are sheer nonsense and lies — and got that message from four executives at Bain, two of whom are “active” supporters of Barack Obama.  John King spoke to all four, three of whom are Democrats, and all four said that Mitt Romney left Bain in a big hurry in 1999 in order to work full time on rescuing the Salt Lake City Olympics.  The rushed departure created a lot of paperwork headaches as Bain tried to unwind Romney from leadership, which required a significant amount of time.  That’s why the company had Romney’s name on their SEC paperwork the next two years . . . .

As yet this morning (PST), Yahoo! led with a story reporting that Obama remains unrelenting on bashing Romney’s job record.  And this even after fact-checkers have debunked the story.

This reminds us of two things, first the desperation of the Obama campaign and second, the bias of new sources like CNN.  The network ran with a story generated by the Obama campaign.

When, pray tell, have they run with a story (and continued coverage over a period of days) generated by a Republican campaign (outside of the primary cycle)?  Or one widely reported in the conservative/libertarian blogosphere, say, “all those unverified credit-card donations” to Obama’s campaign.

*and left-of-center blogs

**to Republican campaigns — and right-of-center blogs.

***Has CNN ever done a segment on the “38 instances in which [Obama’s] biographer [David Maraniss] convincingly disputes significant elements of Obama’s own story of his life and his family history“?
