And no, those words don’t come from a right-of-center pundit or Republican politician, but from a center-left journalist at a liberal newspaper. According to the Washington Post‘s Dan Balz,
Vice President Biden triggered the latest round [of harsh rhetoric and angry accusations]Tuesday with lines, that, had they been uttered by a Republican, likely would have set off an even bigger firestorm. Biden told an audience in Virginia that Romney would “unchain” the big banks if he were elected president and then added, “They’re going to put y’all back in chains.”
(Via Instapundit.) And it wasn’t just Dan Balz. Over at Commentary, Alana Goodman reports that “MSNBC’s Willie Geist had a good take this morning (via Playbook), when he pointed out the media double standard for Biden:”
“It has to be said that if Paul Ryan, the Republican candidate, said that to an African-American audience, there would be calls this morning for him to get out of the race, for Mitt Romney to withdraw from the race. There’s a double standard.”
Double standard indeed. Goodman also reports that Biden is doubling down on his mean-spirited remarks, refusing to “back down on his ‘chains’ gaffe.”
Wonder when our friends in the legacy media will join Rudy Giuliani in questioning Biden’s competence.
He is refusing to back down because the mainstream media will drop the issue. We can’t let him drop the issue.
If Ryan would have uttered those same words, there would be sh*t storm of Biblical proportions going on in the MFM. The election would be cancelled and Ryan would be tarred, feathered, water boarded, subjected to endless loops of One Direction, Justin Bieber and Gaga. He would then be flayed alive, drawn and quartered, hung from the tallest tree and set on fire. Biden, of course, gets a pass. And Obama (who refused to distance himself from those remarks as it is a metaphor, as per Stephanie Cutter) isn’t tarnished in any way. Absolutely vile, disgusting demogauging by Biden, collective yawn from the MFM.
Do you think the cheese will just totally slide off his cracker before or after the debate? I mean, I can see it going either way.
At the very least, Axelrod will have to send Biden off on a long, international tour to visit our allies–in nations that have no media, no TV, no written or spoken language….
I see Biden having a “medical emergency” or a “medical scare” that will make him leave to “spend more time with his family.”
Which brings up the point, who would Choomie choose as his VP?
The press has been very casual in it’s coverage of “Gaff prone Joe”.
We all know it wouldn’t be as casual if a republican uttered those same words.
Wonder if things might have been a little different in 2008 if Joe Biden had been “vetted” the way Sarah Palin was.
What is really twisted is that, to the extent that we are in chains to Big Banking, it is precisely Obama and the Democrats which have made it worse.
They use the Big Lie technique… since the Democrats are the party that most wants to enslave us to a Big Government – Big Banking nexus, and to have everybody in debt up to their eyeballs which is the point of all that 0% interest rate “stimulus”… they must lie that it’s the other party who wants to.
But who passed Dodd-Frank, which enshrines – not restrains; but *enshrines* – the control of the very biggest banks over our national life, by guaranteeing, among other things, that they will always be bailed out no matter what they do? Hint: Democrats.
Biden is good for a belly laugh every week. I hope Obama keeps him on the ticket.
