It’s nearly four years since I’ve stopped reading gay left hate bloggers, those who express their disagreement with gay conservatives by twisting words, leveling insults and engaging in name-calling. I just don’t have the time of the day to waste on their bile.
Yet, even the worst of them — at least when I read them — never advocated or countenanced violence against us or other conservatives. Today, I learned from some of my liberal Facebook friends that one such blogger has received death threats. Hateful as his words may be, the First Amendment protects his freedom of speech. The proper response is to call out his bile*, not to advocate his execution.
He should report these threats to local authorities who should move with dispatch to identify the perpetrators and prosecute them to the full extent of the law.
*Or you could just respond as most of us do: by ignoring him.
FROM THE COMMENTS: novaculus disagrees with me about defining the offending tweet as a “death threat”:
The tweet pictured is not a death threat. It appears to be intended to draw attention to the practices of Islamists regarding homosexuals. Many folks wonder at the ongoing vilification by some in the gay community of Christians, while showing far less animus toward Islamists whose religious law would murder them.
