First caught this on Althouse when doing my morning blog read: “The new Rasmussen daily presidential tracking poll, an average of the last 3 days, 2 of which were post-debate” shows Romney up two over Obama.
What is (in my mind at least) more significant than the top line number is this tidbit Ann teased out: “Among those not affiliated with either major party, Romney leads by 16.” Looking at that same number, John Hinderaker doesn’t “understand how he can be up by 16 with independents and only two overall, but I guess all will become clear in time.” Frankly, nor do I, particularly given the increasing number of independents nationwide.
What is clear though is that independents have been trending toward Romney even after Obama enjoyed a sustained post-Democratic convention bounce.
ADDENDUM: A number of people have been asking me for my predictions on the presidential election. I’m only making two right now, the first being that Romney will win independents, probably by a margin equal to, if not greater than, that Obama enjoyed in 2008 (i.e., 8 points).
