The old elite were totally decrepit and in that story there are some interesting elements. It all comes together towards the end of the story!!

The old French elite treated the people as if they were dogs. It was ok to barge through a crowd in a carriage, and to kill a child at the same time. Even worse, it was ok to them to take the wife of another man and rape her to the point of death.

The actions of the elite via those statements such as “let them eat grass” were the statements that became their undoing. The rage that was seething within built up to the day of the storming of the Bastille. It went beyond that point to end up with the deaths of many innocent people for simply being a member of an aristocratic family.

History has a habit of repeating itself. Right now there is a new elite class. I have a certain crass name for them, and refer to them as foul odour sniffers. This elite are in fact the Marxists. At the moment they have control in the USA, and sadly in Australia as well.

The USA failed to get rid of its Marxist. Now Australians are biding their time for the coming 2013 elections. Promises are being made to that class of people who are too lazy to check out all the facts. All they want is free and easy money.

This type of welfare system is going to collapse one day. We cannot predict when the collapse will come, but there will be a Great Depression far worse than the 1930s when it happens because the elite will have successfully dismantled our successful industries leaving a path of destruction.

When this happens the elite will be punished.

As for collapsing the system,the Cloward Priven Strategy is this; Create more riots and feel your anger and let your hatred flow. Chaos and government impotence to control riots is the fuel to collapse the system and bring in Marxists government solutions.

Rick 67 and Seanne-Anna, from time to time I have commented that Republicans who want to enter into politics as a career should start at the bottom, namely school boards, junior college boards, then when conservatives have the majority, then we can toss the revisionists curriculum in the garbage and restore history as it was originally recorded. This might seem like the minor leagues but this is how Democrats honed their skills for higher office. Conservatives should do likewise. Obama is the exception to the rule. One thing for certain; he has proven that being a community organizer is not sufficient training for higher office.

Some of the “good schools” can be regular ones, or magnet, or charter schools. Fortunately, my state has eliminated residency requirements for schools and school districts, so that anyone can attend any school in any district. This at least helps keep the education establishment a little more honest, since schools get funding based on enrollment.

I see less of a problem with the ideological bent (real or perceived) of the public school system in my state than with the all-consuming athletic industrial complex. The high school I graduated from now has permanent early dismissal on Fridays at 1 PM (thus inconveniencing parents who rely on the bus system—which runs at regular times for the rest of the students in the other schools) because too many students are gone for sports tournaments. My hometown newspaper is mostly a sports journal with a few public events reporting thrown in as ‘news’. I recently asked a distant relative who is a longtime school board member what the literacy rate was for the district. She didn’t know. Yet the dropout rate in the same district and a large one in a neighboring county is more well-known and is nothing to brag about.

When the focus of an educational system really isn’t education, is it any wonder Japan, South Korea, and China have higher education success rates than the USA?
