In Ace’s “Headlines” sidebar, I just noticed this post at FreedomWorks: 15 Year Old Wisconsin Conservative Meets Bullying From Teachers.
Worth a skim. To be clear: By “bullying”, he does not mean physical assault, but rather a series of moral-emotional assaults from teachers who single him out for questioning (sometimes invasive) and ridicule. From Mr. Backer’s conclusion:
If teachers want bullying to end with homosexuals, other races or religious beliefs, they should want it to end with every type of bullying possible, including political views.
I haven’t done any research that would let me vouch for Mr. Backer’s story, but if it’s true, it’s chilling. Or, to say something more positive: that kid has guts!

As a strong Conservative, I don’t agree with the Democrats’ policies, but I am really unhappy with how the Republicans are responding to the Election. We as Conservatives and Republicans (at least in my opinion) are generally more positive and peaceful as a party. After this election, we have not shown that. Every day I see a post about how Republican states should secede from our great country. I agree that Obama has not done a good job as our leader, but I have faith that he will stand up as a leader to at least keep our country the same that it is now or better. We are a country that time and time again has gone through tough times and succeeded in the end. It all starts with working together. Our President IS Barack Obama. He represents us and he will for the next four years, whether you like it or not. We are giving off a bad impression. We did not like how people treated George Bush, but now suddenly we are treating our president and country like they did. Our country is the land of opportunity and there is no better place in the world than here. Here is my short message that sums it up: If we act like this or if we have states secede OR if we have a war between the parties, we will never succeed as a country. We will never be strong. I hope that as a party going forward, we can treat this president with more respect even if we disagree with him. I also hope that we stay united as a country and work together. It’s time to get to work and to get things done.
#1 – And what exactly is your point, Rusty? (Assuming of course that you actually HAVE one.)
Regards,
Peter H.
The point, as I see it, is that the kid is by no means an Obama-hater, yet Obama still would never let him on a White House tour. 😉
The definition of “bullying” has really been dumbed down; I think harassment is the more accurate word in this case.
V, agree.
Rusty’s point, Peter Hughes, is a) an admission that conservatives are decent people and b) a malicious attempt to exploit that decency to change conservatives’ behavior.
But when one realizes that rusty and concern trolls like the one quoted voted for Barack Obama and his malicious lies about how Romney was a murderer and a tax cheat, not to mention how they called for Bush’s assassination, they become quite easy to ignore; you see their lies and hypocrisy quite plainly.
Liars for Obama. That’s all liberals are; liars and filth, malicious and disgusting children who will say and do anything to steal from others.
NDT – People who reward gutter politics shouldn’t be surprised that they end up governed by gutter politicians.
You hadda go to Ace for the story?! Bruce had it on his Twitter feed two days ago…
Yeah, I’m not a big Twitter guy.
This is example #349,267 on why I don’t look to teenagers for wisdom, even a teenager as (apparently) well-grounded as young Mr. Backer.
It’s also the attitude of far too many, ahem, adults, who ought to know better.
I hope Mr. Backer’s parents have considered suing the s–t out of these teachers and administrators, as that is the only language that these SOBs are likely to understand.
Duly noted. So let me rephrase the comment.
which appears on on every non-comment page of Gay Patriot. (Which is where I saw it, since my own Twitter usage is erratic, to say the least.)Guess we know where next year’s on-site April Fools jokes can be best played… (Just sayin’)
He’s just young & idealistic. I would imagine he beleives that even people like Jim Carrey ‘mean well’ and most people who—as I’ve seen posted on blog comment pages a few times—”can’t ever imagine being friends with a Republican” are just ‘misguided’.
Once life smacks him around a few times, he’ll come around. (That may come with finding out he has to pay a boatload of money for health insurance in twelve years—or less—even though he never goes to the hospital.)
But do I care? That’s the real question. And I mean, do I care enough to scroll down and carefully read each item? Because only the first few items are visible (without scrolling), at any given time. And many of them (sometimes a majority) are not actually from Bruce.
What’s your beef anyway? Bruce himself was 4 days late with the item (Backer’s post is dated March 28). Think of this post as being for the people who aren’t big on Twitter. If you are, that’s great… have fun! 🙂
Not too long ago I would have wholeheartedly agreed with you, RSG.
However, with ever increasing frequency, our culture actually rewards bad behavior (moral hazards and perverse incentives) and punishes good behavior, or dis-incentivizes it, at best.
It reminds me of ‘Bizarro World’ from Superman comics: bad is good,
love is hate, life is death, etc.
Jeez, touchy much today?! The original comment was a not-unfriendly poke at an apparent lack of screen comprehension and/or attention to detail (which, though I love your economic analysis, let me just hope you’re not doing governmental audits).
And while we’re on the topic of reading comprehension [something that routinely is pointed out here to some of our low-information commenters], you’ll notice that I am admittedly not currently ‘big on Twitter’. Also, thanks for bringing the attention this story deserves in an official blog post.
No offense taken.
On an “off-topic” winding path here. I have no experience or interest in Twitter. Never twitted, tweeted or had a notion to try.
But…..
How does Google or Facebook make any money whatsoever? At the core of what they both do is to aggregate. Every search and click is information specific to you and within very little time, the aggregator is in possession of a profile on you that is comprehensive. That information is gold to the market. You are easily located by your GPS coordinates and “they” not only know where you are, “they” know what you are (most likely) doing. The more of these “services” we jump into, the more we shred any pretense we may assume we have of privacy.
Bruce encountered an unmarked white van. The average burgeoning computer hacker can access more instant data on a subject than Sam Spade ever uncovered in an entire career of protagonist in Dashiell Hammett’s novels.
Follow for the money.
