My Simple Immigration Plan

April 22, 2013 by GayPatriot

I tweeted a shorter version of this a few minutes ago.  But here is the longer version.

My plan: Any reform of United States immigration laws should be NO WEAKER than the weakest immigration laws of our two NAFTA partners – Canada & Mexico.

My understanding is that Mexican immigration law is one of the toughest in the Western Hemisphere (irony alert).  And Canada has a very impressive guest worker/visa program that prevents the ridiculous influx of illegals like we see in the USA.

That’s it.

Discuss.

    That’s a great suggestion.

A worthwhile corollary ought to be that NAFTA is not and was never meant to be an immigration plan, and to the contrary, it could be argued that it was meant to discourage illegal immigration by spurring growth of commercial activity in all three countries. The way things have been going, though, it seems as if some lawmakers believe that “free trade” also means “open borders” for illegal immigrants.

“Any adult entering illegally and found to be in gainful employment without criminal record shall be allowed to achieve permanent residence but not citizenship and not the vote. Any child brought in illegally by their parents/caregivers may achieve citizenship and voting rights if there is no criminal or civil proceeding against their name in the ten years following their entry into the US or until they become an adult, whichever comes LAST.”

Mexicans are two faced hypocrites. They have tough laws in their country, but they desire weak laws in the USA. F’ing aholes.

True, but look how well they do the lawn!

And yes, I went there. Deal with it.

Canada’s guest worker system is reported to work well for them. Of course, it’s not “comprehensive” as it doesn’t feed the GOP fantasy of new voters nor the Dem reality of new voters.

I can not understand the rush for this… we are hemorrhaging jobs at all levels (Bruce: see http://www.dailyjobcuts.com for a gander at the layoffs at Boeing, L3, and other tech companies that routinely lobby for more H1B workers).

If our rulers (they quit representing us a long time ago) want to do anything useful on immigration, they would 1) enforce existing law and 2) tell us, the rubes they’re stuck with, exactly how legalizing millions of new workers and waving in millions more dependents benefits US.

John Derbyshire’s weekly podcast had the following brief item:

A footnote here to the immigration bill — I beg its pardon, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act. This is from Investor’s Business Daily.

Under the 2010 Obamacare healthcare act, if an employer offers insurance that a worker can’t afford, then the worker becomes eligible for ObamaCare’s exchange subsidies; but then the employer would have to pay the government up to $3,000 for the subsidized worker.

As you’ve probably heard, employers can get themselves off the hook here by shifting some workers to part-time; so expect to see a lot of that next year when Obamacare kicks in.

A wrinkle in the immigration bill, however, means an employer can also save that $3,000 by hiring someone in provisional legal immigrant status — i.e. an illegal alien who’s applied for legalization.

Bottom line here: an illegal alien who’s applied for legalization will have a $3,000 edge in the labor market over a citizen.

I have a suggestion for Schumer, Rubio, & Co. Why don’t you just name this the War On U.S. Citizens Act?

    WTF?

Some courageous Republican should just translate Mexican immigration code and present it to Congress.

Nowadays, “courageous Republican” is an oxymoron. Sort of like “decent Democrat.”

Yeah, why not. Specially the Canada part. I’ll take the socialized medicine and tar sands as well. Love them tar sands.
