IRS waits until after election year to tell us they targeted conservative groups in election year

May 10, 2013 by B. Daniel Blatt

Now, they tell us:

IRS Apologizes For Inappropriately Targeting Conservative Political Groups In 2012 Election

Tell me now, who trying to politicize the federal government? Kudos to the Huffington Post for publishing this (and to AOL for linking it on the home page). Let’s hope more of our left-leaning legacy media cover this story. Goes to the heart of the kind of politics the Obama team practices.

UPDATE: More here and here.

UP-UPDATE:  Looks like this story has legs.  Glenn Reynolds reminds us that when the Democrat was new in office, “BARACK OBAMA JOKED ABOUT TAX AUDITS FOR PEOPLE WHO DISPLEASED HIM. Now the IRS has admitted that it targeted conservative and Tea Party groups in 2012″, adding his own take:

The employees involved should be fired and prosecuted. The affected groups should be compensated for the additional costs they incurred in responding to this illegal harassment, and Congress should take the money out of the IRS’s travel-and-entertainment budget.

I agree.  At least as to the firing.

UP-UPDATE:  Jennifer Rubin finds this to be part of a pattern:  “The degree to which politics has come to predominate on everything from the sequester to national security to the civil rights division and now to the IRS is quite startling. It is a pattern of sublimating everything to partisan politics and electoral advantage.“

There is more sleeze in the Obama administration than there ever was in the Nixon Administration. Now is everyone ready for the Obamcare train wreck.

Yup, totes My Bad, people, says the IRS.

And with professionalism like this, I sure feel GREAT about the non-partisan, totally not-petty IRS shoring up Obamacare.

Why, with top men like this in charge, what could POSSIBLY go wrong?

To quote Hudson from ‘Aliens,’ “I feel safer already.”

*ouch, I think I broke my sarcasm bone on that one — does Obamacare cover anti_De sarcasm, does anyone know?*

should read anti-DEM sarcasm — need a new keyboard — or new fingers. Either or.

    So, they apologized. Whoopee.

Was anyone reprimanded or fired for this abuse of power? Were the victims compensated for their time and money spent answering these abuses?

The perpetrators will be subject to the worst imaginable penalty for a Federal bureaucrat: Paid administrative leave.

This is the typical “Chicago thug way,” folks. Prominent conservatives like Sean Hannity, Mark Levin and even Rush Limbaugh have stated on the record that when Dhimmicrats are in prominent positions of power, all of a sudden they get audited.

And no, the Bush Administration never did anything like that to people like Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Rachel Maddow etc.

    No.

In fact, the IRS spokesperson, according to the Washington Post, explicitly stated that no disciplinary actions were taken.

I think at this point we start lawsuits. Immediately. The Mahogany Marxist Messiah orders the Federal bureaucracy to violate the law and harass people, then refuses to discipline or punish those who do.

Ggreenwald posted this from a NYSlimes editorial PRAISING the IRS for targeting them.

These groups, which already have 501(c)(4) status, should be as thoroughly investigated as any Tea Party chapter applying for that tax exempt status. So should two other blatant offenders: the conservative American Action Network, a “social welfare” claimant reported by the Center for Public Integrity to have spent more than 80 percent of its expenditures on the 2010 elections; and Americans Elect, a third-party effort enjoying “social welfare” secrecy as it secures ballot space across the nation.

    Epic douchbaggery

An apology is insuffient to say the least. Really, we’re sorry? That’s it? Not even a disciplinary letter in the guilty party’s employee jacket?

Great. We are hiring 40,000 more of these unaccountable bozos and giving the IRS more power over we the people. What could possibly go wrong?

When the DHS put evangelical Christians, Catholics and Tea Party groups on the watch list of dangerous groups ABOVE Caire, what could possibly go wrong? Upside down and sideways is the default of the federal employee. Oh and unionized as well. So the average fed makes more than those who are taxed to pay them.

I wouldn´t applaude the leftist for making this public. They are really protecting their interests. They know that someday, maybe soon, the pendulum will swing the other wasy and they´ll be on the receiving end. This thing is similar to President Nixon´s enemies list. tis raises the question if other presidents sent the IRS after their perceived enemies. Did LBJ engage in such behavior. I wouldn´t have put it past the man who, on election day, carried every cemetery in Texas.

Folks, there needs to be a full investigation into this matter by the Republican house. Heads need to roll. An apology is a not anywhere near enough.

Instapundit is all over this, with reminders that Barack Obama actually said that he was going to do this, the Obama Party has endorsed it, and that the IRS is essentially saying they’re not going to do anything about it.

And shocker, concern-troll mike and Donny “Republicans are all evil meanies” D are nowhere to be found to comment.

    Agreed.

Up next: Hillary apologizing for ordering the death of Vincent Foster[1]; then saying, in response to critics who feel that perhaps she should still be investigated for it, “What difference at this point does it make?”

([1] This is sarcasm, or theatrical exaggeration. I don’t really think she did.)

So basically, if I understand correctly, the President of the United States targeted dissident citizens for IRS harassment, and lied about the murder of four others for political gain, and I’m somehow a racist for taking offense at that?

Civility, my ass. Somewhere, a tree is thirsty, metaphorically speaking, of course.

ND30, they are all busy trying to pin this on Dubya. But that dog don’t hunt.

Of course, groups like ACORN got away with this douchebaggery in 2008. But as Jay Carney pointed out, “that’s a long time ago.”

    Scribes, Pharisees and hypocrites all.

This abuse of power is fine, and it should be expanded to even more conservative groups. We need to get rid of the two party system and go to a Soviet or Venezuelan model. We cannot have any dissent in this country.

It isn’t that Obama joked about auditing his enemies, or anything else, for that matter.

It’s just that his jokes have a nasty record of coming true.
