IRS targeting the Tea Party: really a surprise?

May 13, 2013 by Jeff (ILoveCapitalism)

For years, the Left has been trying to link the Tea Party with terrorism. Examples include:

  • Vice President Biden agreeing with House Democrats that the Tea Party are terrorists. (Biden later denied it, but not convincingly.)
  • Senate majority leader Harry Reid likening the Tea Party to “anarchists”.
  • Semi-retired Congressional dumbass Barney Frank claiming that al Qaeda and the Tea Party are “aligned”.
  • The New York Times accusing Tea Party-inspired Republicans of “economic vandalism” for opposing debt ceiling increases, the very stance that then-Senator Obama took famously in 2006. Other editorialists also referred to “hostage taking” and “terrorism”, or even called the Tea Party “totalitarian”.
  • Media coverage in general showing great bias against the Tea Party. Some note that the media ignored real union violence, while covering imaginary Tea Party violence.
  • The media repeatedly trying (and failing) to link the Tea Party to each new mass killer, such as: the Boston Marathon bombers, the Gabby Giffords shooter, the Aurora shooter (wherein ABC rushed to blame a certain Colorado Tea Party activist), the guy who tried to crash a plane into the IRS building in Austin (but who proved to be left-leaning), and more.

Given the climate of bias, hate and fear that our top leaders and media have sought to foment against the Tea Party for years, is it any wonder that self-important IRS bureaucrats would act unethically toward it?

UPDATE: As long as my list is, I know that I’ve missed some juicy examples of our top leaders and media fomenting bigotry against the Tea Party. Please feel free to add more in the comments.

UPDATE: Rick Santelli points out the logical endpoint of the IRS’ approach – namely, your Obamacare death panel Accountability Board saying “No stent for you!” based on your politics – and predicts that Obamacare will be altered partly to prevent such a nightmare.

UPDATE: How could I not mention how they’ve also tried to link the Tea Party with racism? Latest example: a top NAACP leader claims that America’s racist Taliban deserved the IRS scrutiny.

I suggest that “self-important IRS bureaucrats” is a bit understated. The IRS is a huge bureaucracy and it is highly likely that partisanship leaks through the “ethics” safety net in how assiduously some individuals and groups are selected and targeted. I am saying that the IRS is as capable of taking the low road with a wink and a nod when institutional oversight is absent, lax or permissive.

Look at how Obama operates daily in his community organizer role. He places blame, obfuscates and does not leave his own fingerprints. Why shouldn’t people at the Department of Justice or the Treasury act the same way? “Just don’t get caught or cause your boss a problem” is not that rare a philosophy among moral midgets and the power hungry.

A simple test would be to count the number of organizations with “progressive” in their names and compare it to the number with “TEA Party” in their names. Then it would be possible to calculate if there was a disparity in how often each was subject to IRS audits, hassles, etc. That would establish the level of “randomness.”

As right as you are in your post ILC, it is a very big leap from calling one names and even throwing a few rocks by the liberal elite and their partners in the MSM, to unleashing the power and the might of the IRS/ U.S Government on a private individual or a group of individuals of like mind. It smacks of the old Russian “pogrom.” Please see:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pogrom

Though the “pogrom” was an action primarily against Jews in Russia, in modern times it has a broader application.

As a side note, I saw some headlines that the IRS targeted some Jewish groups, thus the term “pogrom” is quite appropos.

Having once been a target of the IRS as a result of a deranged individual, my digust in what they have done knows no bounds.

Side note #2: There is no way on this earth that our president’s finger prints are NOT on this ‘pogrom.” Nixon did it, Clinton did it, and now obama has done it!!

Also, is it really new? Hasn’t Rush Limbaugh been “randomly selected” for audit for the last twenty something years?

If it was an Occupy Wallstreet Group, they would let them stay for 9 months, do drugs, rape women, shoot people, destroy small business’s and property and take a dump on the police cars and THEN, call them great Americans who are just practicing their right of Free Speech. Doesn’t matter that they break a dozen laws and cause violence…they are WAY better than the Tea Party!

You are comparing this to the horror of the Pogroms.?!?!?! My god. I mean…really…you must have a serious case of victimitis to even try to make that mental leap.

Furthermore if this was indeed a clear Obama led directive, he should be impeached. Case closed. However, for him to do so would require the Republican appointed leader of the IRS to be on board and I highly doubt that he would do that…but maybe. Hopefully there will be some good investigations to find out.

I wonder how many left-wingers are privately elated that the IRS was targeting the Tea Party

    No privately about it.

    Also, it gets worse.

Contrary to Obama’s commencement speech, tyranny really was lurking right around the corner; at least for Tea Party groups.

V – I have a little post coming, on Obama’s commencement speech. I held it, because there have been so many other new posts flowing from Obama’s scandals. Hopefully I’ll put it out today.

And of course, nobody bats an eye when an NBC commentator joins the NOW gang in wanting the IRS to go after Catholic bishops:

Who would have thought I could get SnObama, the IRS, Gosnell and religion all in the same topic! đŸ˜‰

I agree, except for the “doubt” part.

If you’re referring to the former commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, Douglas Shulman, he is on record for donating money to the Democratic National Committee and that given the fact Democrats controlled congress when he was appointed and they singed off on him without a fight, it’s probably a good bet this guy isn’t an arch-conservative.

But other than that, I totally agree with what you said in the paragraph I quoted.
