In 2008, we told you Obama wasn’t the man you (thought you) were voting for. . .

[E]ven among Obama voters,” writes Heather Long in Friday’s Guardian, reflecting on a variety of factors, including the number of scandals coming to light, “there should be genuine disappointment. This not the President Obama we voted for, not even close.”

She talks about the excitement and exhilaration people felt in 2008 when Obama was elected:

It was mostly young people marching – from varied backgrounds. Many of these parades ended up in front of the White House where chants of “goodbye Bush” (or some variation thereof) began. It was the same slogan heard as Barack Obama was sworn in as president in January 2009 and Bush flew away in a helicopter.

There was a belief, especially among voters in their 20s and 30s, that Obama was going to be different. That his promises to “change the culture in Washington” were real. That his administration wouldn’t be beholden to lobbyists and conduct executive power grabs.

Interesting how part of their celebration relates to the departure of the much (and usually wrongly) maligned immediate past President of the United States.

What evidence, beyond the candidate’s rhetoric, did they have that Barack Obama was an agent of change?

They were clearly not aware, as many conservatives reported in 2008, that the great Democratic hope had always been a loyal foot soldier in the Chicago Democratic machine.  In his twelve years as an elected official based in that city, Barack Obama failed to challenged its authority — as he failed to root out corrupt practices and cronyism that defined its government.

His record, as we have pointed out repeatedly, was at odds with his rhetoric.

We (that is, conservative and libertarian bloggers and pundits) told you that back in 2008.  We told you that you were voting for an image crafted by political consultants and projected onto a charismatic Chicago politician with a mellifluous speaking voice.   But, you were so eager to see George W. Bush replaced that you trusted the words of man who delighted in maligning that Republican, but about whom you knew very little.  And are only now seeing as he is today — and was back then.

  1. Were he not Black, he’d never be where he is. He is symptomatic of a deep-seated illness in the American mind and soul.

  2. This brings to mind the Lemony Snicket stories, where the kids recognize the malevolent Count Olaf for who he is and try to warn the adults, but the adults can’t see through Count Olaf’s disguises. Plenty of conservatives tried to warn everyone else about who Barack Obama was and is, but people just didn’t want to listen. Even now, I don’t think a lot of people are open to considering just how much of a BS artist the president is.

  6. I got a kick out of Judge Pirro’s monologue here. Says her mom could do a better job than Obama, and I believe her.

Thing is, I don’t think Obama is really in charge. I believe the Democrats have built some sort of politburo somewhere that is setting the tone of things and clearing decisions through a political lens and not from the position of running a government.

Obama and Holder know nothing about Fast and Furious or AP record confiscation. Obama and Hillary know nothing about Benghazi. Obama knows nothing about the IRS scandal or the coming EPA scandal. Nobody knows anything about anything. They are coming off like they are completely incompetent. But if you buy that, exactly who IS coordinating all of these decisions? You can’t be completely incompetent yet be so consistent on so many ways across so many different parts of the government.

It seems to me that they have quite possibly set up a government within a government of political operatives who are setting the tone on policy decisions. I believe that for the AP confiscation, Obama was advised to spike that football by someone else. I also believe that when that was foiled by the AP going public with the story hours before Obama was to do it, that same group advised DoJ to confiscate the records and retaliate against the leakers. A simple way to tell if that holds water is to look at when the confiscation was ordered. Was it ordered before AP released the story or after? If they were concerned about the leak, they would have ordered the records be obtained when they first learned that the AP had the story. If they were concerned about the political ramifications, they would have ordered the confiscation when AP published the story.

The Benghazi talking points follows the same patter. Who was really looking over the shoulders of the government operators involved? Do we have political operatives who aren’t subject to the same transparency laws calling the shots?

  7. Every time we conservatives/libertarians told the GayLeftLib borg that SnObama was an empty suit, we got called “racist” for pointing out the truth.

Unfortunately, race is the reason why SnObama won’t ever get impeached. Both the black racist Dhimmicrats and those in the State-Run Media will never let the “first black president” ever get impeached. And watch – they will try to rehab his image in 2017 the likes of which you have never seen before.

    We are so screwed.

    Regards,
    Peter H.

  8. Excellent! You nailed it with the Chicago Machine, trust me, I’m on the outskirts of the actually city, and have been involved in Illinois politics for years (as a Republican) and that democrat demonic machine has governed the City of Chicago for over 80 years thus the significant and steady decline in economics, jobs, desirability to attract businesses, and the ridiculous crime spree! They tried to use their miserably inept legislative, make that dictatorial politics to lead a nation and are failing miserably!

  9. Obama himself said he was the screen that everyone could project their hopes and aspirations on. He let others define him the way they wanted him to be. Too many are still holding on to that vision as evidenced by the cheers he gets at his current campaign events. People still want to believe in him or rather what they believe him to be.

  10. Libs 2009: “It’s racist to claim Obama doesn’t know what’s going on in his Government.”

Libs 2013: “Obama isn’t responsible for the scandals because he didn’t know what was going on in his Government.”

  11. It’s a nice thought, crosspatch, but you’re still looking at this from the perspective of someone with morals, values, and a respect for the law.

Think of Obama as a child who has never been told no or had to deal with the consequences of his decisions for his entire life, and you will immediately understand clearly.

Obama does not understand the consequences of lying because he has never had to face them. For example, does anyone seriously believe Obama’s grandparents were comfortable with his “Choom Gang” antics, or were willingly giving him money to buy pot? But remember, these were the people who had raised Obama’s mother with exactly zero sense of values or common sense, and it’s doubtful that they were any great improvement on their grandchild.

Hence Obama says things that are incomprehensible to people who have some fixed star in their firmament. Obama simply says whatever he needs to say to get out of the situation he is in and can, without any mental or ethical issue, say the exact opposite ten minutes later.

It has always worked for him. And it continues to work because the Obamamedia is willing to cover for his lies to get what they want.

Once you realize that Obama really has no concept of right, wrong, truth, or falsehood, and instead simply does and says whatever he wants to in order to get whatever he wants at a given time, you don’t need to invent shadowy cabals or conspiracies; you just need to see it as an extraordinarily-twisted and destructive ideology.

  12. They all voted him in out of hatred, rage and frustration that they could not formally defeat a man they despised, and the whites at least voted for him out of deep-seated guilt.

That was in 2009. What made them vote for him in 2012, aside from a pack of lies and media obfuscation of his every filthy crime and pitiful inadequacy, I cannot say.

LOL. Root out corrupt practices and cronyism? Why would Obama do that? He was a direct and frequent beneficiary of corrupt practices and cronyism. In fact, that is how he made his career in Chicago, such as it was. And the same is even more true for Obama’s wife Michelle, who owes her entire job history (with the possible exception for a couple of years in her one and only job as a lawyer) to Valerie Jarrett, corrupt Chicago slumlord and political fixer. And both Obamas owe convicted felon/political fixer Tony Rezko, for helping them secure a sweetheart deal for their Chicago house (and the adjoining lot, which was essentially a gift from Rezko).

Not only was Obama not the “reformer” he claimed to be, he may be one of the most corrupt individuals ever to hold the office of U.S. president.

  15. I agree with #1. Being black or mulatto certainly was a plus for him in 2008. But the fact that in 2012 people never saw that he was incompetent and still voted for him. Maybe Jesse jackson would have done a better at it than Obama. My preference in 2012 was Herman Cain.
