State Rep. Winkler: It’s Okay to say “Uncle Tom”

Last week, I posted on Barbara Walters’ and Whoopie Goldberg’s bizarre defense of Bill Maher, who had apparently called out Sarah Palin’s Down Syndrome child as “retarded”. A quick refresher:

Walters speculated that Maher did not know the word [ed: “retarded”] could be hurtful…

Goldberg lamely tried to assist Walters, saying “we, society took the word ‘retarded’ and made it into something derogatory…When I was a kid, it wasn’t derogatory…”

Now MN State Rep. Ryan Winkler (D/Labor Party) has called Justice Thomas an “Uncle Tom.” His defense? Guess.

[from Twitter] I did not understand “Uncle Tom” as a racist term, and there seems to be some debate about it…

[from Winkler’s weak ‘apology’ statement] I was very disappointed today in the Supreme Court decision…In expressing that disappointment on twitter, I hastily used a loaded term…

I see a trend!

Now, let’s be clear. Winkler didn’t use “a loaded term”, he used a racial slur.

  1. Well, ILC, of course he could get away with it! He had the magic (D) after his name!

Now, if it had been Michelle Bachmann, on the other hand…

    Hypocrisy, thy name is liberalism.

  2. Winkler knew exactly what he tweeted (a racist slur) and why he tweeted it (to dehumanize Clarence Thomas) when he tweeted it. His only ignorance was not realizing he’d face a chorus of disapproval, even from some African-Americans because after all, he used a racist slur in what he perceives as the fight against racism and that absolves any means to achieve such a worthy end.

I’m willing to bet Winkler has a poster of K-Fed wheat-pasted to the ceiling of his bedroom.

  3. Funny how the liberal apologists are always present to defend those among them for being clearly in the wrong while simultaneously attacking others for the same offense. “Retarded” is only bad if uttered by a non-liberal and perfectly OK to be spoken by a liberal. OK, I get it now.

  4. It even extends to us gays – as demonstrated by Rahm Emanuel (D-Chicago Mayor):

I am outraged and demand an apology for this insult! (/Sarc)

  5. Now how many people that call somebody an “Uncle Tom” have ever read the book that name comes from? If they had, it’d be the LAST thing you’d call somebody you don’t like.

  6. “they”, not “you”, sorry.
