Another Deadline that keeps slippin’, slippin’ slippin’

  • The Boston Globe noted on April 16, 2014: “The world now has a rough deadline for action on climate change. Nations need to take aggressive action in the next 15 years to cut carbon emissions, in order to forestall the worst effects of global warming, says the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.”

Weird how the “settled scientific consensus” keeps changing its “Deadline for action.” It’s almost like the “Deadline for Action” is a purely political construct and the Global Warmists are just making [stuff] up as they go along.

What If Bryan Singer Were a Catholic Priest?

X-Men Director Bryan Singer has been accused of raping an underage boy at Paul Mitchell’s resort in Hawaii. Drug-fueled orgies in which Hollywood heavyweights including other producers like Roland Emmerich indulge themselves with underage boys are pretty common; alleges the victim’s attorney.

Some are dismissing the allegations; noting that the man is now 31 years old and is only now alleging abuse that took place when he was fifteen. But wasn’t that the same case with most of the the accusations made against Roman Catholic clergy? Weren’t most of the victims adults alleging that abuse occurred decades earlier?  Singer’s defenders claim the man is just looking for a payout; but the Roman Catholic church was writing a lot of checks at the height of their scandal, too.

I can’t possibly know if the allegations are true in this specific case. But what I do know is that Hollywood has shown an incredible degree of tolerance for child rapists and creepy pedophiles; Woody Allen, Roman Polansky, and Victor Salva, among others, were all forgiven for their sexual abuses of minors. There really doesn’t seem to be much shock or outrage when minors are abused by Hollywood people. Is it because media folk help cover for other media folk? Do people just not care as much when the perpetrator is a celebrity as opposed to a clergyman or a football coach? Or is it because those who control the media only care about the sexual abuse of minors when it can be used as a cudgel against those they don’t like?

Why the double standard? I’m asking honestly, because I don’t get it.

All of these reasons are perfectly valid… from the Progressive Left point of view. A sample:

6. I’ll vote Democrat because I’m way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves. I am also thankful that we have a 911 service that get police to your home in order to identify your body after a home invasion.
