PJ O’Rourke (and a few around here) attempt(s) to destroy the word slavery by making the word meaningless, applying it to anything and everything:
It’s not an endlessly expanding list of rights — the ‘right’ to education, the ‘right’ to health care […] That’s not freedom, that’s dependency. Those aren’t rights, those are the rations of slavery — hay and a barn for human cattle.
Because we all know that welfare dependency is slavery. /sarc

Pretty much, Ignatius.
If anything, it’s worse. Freed slaves had life skills and were capable of caring for themselves. Welfare slaves are deliberately stripped and deprived of their life skills and taught not to work and to be completely dependent.
You focus solely on the forced-labor aspect. What you don’t see is that forced idleness and helplessness is even more destructive and pernicious to the human body and spirit than is forced labor.

But forced labor is okay when it’s Christians being forced… under threat of law… to provide services for gay weddings.

You know, Iggy, there comes a time when one’s ass is so used to being whipped that he becomes addicted to a good ass-whipping and therefore trolls for another round.
Among the Essays of George Orwell comes this truism from the age in which he wrote it to our day:
“Political writing in our time consists almost entirely of prefabricated phrases bolted together like the pieces of a child’s Meccano set. It is the unavoidable result of self-censorship. To write in plain, vigorous language one has to think fearlessly, and if one thinks fearlessly one cannot be politically orthodox.”
The casual use of references to holocaust, rape, and slavery cheapen the dialogue.
But you are a dissolute coward. You infer (that is a gift as you flat out state) “that “a few around here) attempt(s) to destroy the word slavery by making the word meaningless, applying it to anything and everything”
Pony up, Iggy. Name names and link to your proof.

You might have said “man up”, but it’s not applicable in the case you’re dealing with here. Also, let’s not encourage the LCP to go off on another 3 day harangue, eh? 😉
The only person who’s stylus keeps skipping on the word ‘slavery’ is none other than Perfesser Iggy-noble himself.

@ heliotrope: I’m sure I’m going to get implemented by Iggy. Even though I took the position that the modern welfare system is more akin to indentured servitude.

Iggy isn’t going to produce because he can’t. He is a harridan who automatically trips himself through his egregious use of hyperbole.

The true slave in the welfare system is the productive guy whose earnings get taxed to pay for it.
