Saturday was Armed Forces Day. But instead of expressing gratitude to the men and women who serve in uniform, the Obama Administration chose to honor ‘Pander to Gay Victimhood Day,’ a.k.a. ‘International Day Against Homophobia Or Transphobia.’ In addition to the Administration’s usual policy tools of Tweets and #Hashtags, U.S. Embassy in non-Muslim countries were instructed to raise rainbow flags in gratitude to wealthy gays and lesbians who donate so generously to the Democrat Party.
Meanwhile, George W. Bush attended a ceremony recognizing Medal of Honor Recipients.
Barf city. Divide Americans according to hyphens. Sickening.
In other news, noisy Harley-Davidson riders who aren’t fags will be thunderously rolling through the DC area next weekend, with the big event on Sunday, 25 May (around the Mall and then to the Vietnam Memorial).
(I rarely go into the District for this, but I live less than a mile from the single biggest meet-up point for bikers coming in from the DC suburbs — so I always go to watch the parade with my nephew plus one or both of his parents. Kid likes noisy things with wheels, even if they don’t transform into large robots.)
You have to wonder. I know that if I was in the military, and my Commander-in-Chief snubbed me to suck up to some sociopathic queens and hebephiles, I would be disinclined to give a damn about his safety, and even more disinclined to obey any orders he may give me. So what is the military up to?
I’m not talking about the brass. They’re either career bureaucrats or life-long military guys who care more about helping their military contractor buddies than they do about protecting their troops. I’m talking about the techs, grunts and low-level officers in the field who are physically fighting the battles. I find it hard to believe that they are cool with the way Obama’s been treating them. Do they hate the guy as much as I think they do, or are they as hopeless as many civvies?
I dunno, Sean, but I recommend BlackFive as a good-quality military blog where you can lurk for a while to get a sense of how current service members and veterans think about politics — and nobody will jump on you if you out yourself as a “gay conservative.”
(Though they may challenge you on your “conservative” credentials at first.)
There are many other such blogs, of course, but BlackFive is one where I’ve had some excellent comment-thread dialogues in the past.
Needless to say that when you’re a newbie commenter on any milblog, it’s a good idea to let them know up front that you’re a civilian and that you aren’t embarrassed about being corrected if you turn out to have misconceptions about military life that you picked up from Hollywood.
(Same as you would when posting as a lapsed Catholic on an Orthodox Jewish blog, or as a white American on an English-language Korean blog, or whatever… just admit up front that you probably don’t know the culture as well as the blog “natives”.)
