The VA is what happens when government works

Rather than completely plagiarize Jonah’s recent post at NRO, I’ll simply post his best quote, and leave it to you to read the rest. The VA is:

the one institution and/or constituency that enjoys huge bipartisan support. The VA, rhetorically and politically, is more sacrosanct and less controversial than Medicare, Social Security, road building, the NIH, or public schools. We are constantly told that we could get so many wonderful, super-fantastic things done if only both sides would lay down their ideological blah blah blah blah and work together for yada yada yada. Well, welcome to the VA. How’s that working out for you?

Howard Dean: Republicans “are not American”

Speaking at a fundraiser for a Colorado Democrat, Former DNC Chair and Democrat Presidential candidate Howard Dean sugested that all Republicans should leave the USA because “they are not American.”

“This country has been sold down the river by the right wing for their own purposes,” Dean told the wildly enthusiastic crowd. “This is a Republican Party that has decided they like power so much that they think it’s okay to win by taking away the right to vote. They are not American. They could be more comfortable in the Ukraine or Russia. But stay away from our country.”

So, a certain group of people is singled out by the political leadership as the source of all of society’s problems, and the state’s media apparatus is given unlimited license to attack those people. What sort of regimes do this, and what happens to those who are targeted by a political regime as enemies of the state?

At a minimum, Dean wants the USA to be a one-party state without even token opposition to totalitarian rule; because that’s what America is supposed to be, in his mind.

One notes that he is echoing and expanding upon the comments of New York Democrat governor Andrew Cuomo, who told all those nuts who believe in the Constitution and lower taxes they aren’t welcome in his state.

Update: On Monday, President Obama also disparaged the Republican Party as unpatriotic for not rubber-stamping his every rule, decree, and suggestion like an obedient legislature would. And because those unpatriotic, anti-American seditionists insist on trying to hold his administration accountable for scandals in which people have died because of his policies (Benghazi, Fast and Furious, VA).

Obama Administration Wants Complete “Biosurveillance” of Every Citizen’s Health Records

The People Who Brought You Obamacare and the IRS Scandal are now working on a plan to put every American’s health records under bureaucratic surveillance.

The federal government is piecing together a sweeping national “biosurveillance” system that will give bureaucrats near real-time access to Americans’ private medical information in the name of national security, according to Twila Brase, a public health nurse and co-founder of the Citizens Council for Health Freedom.

The Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response is currently seeking public comment on a 52-page draft of the proposed “National Health Security Strategy 2015-2018” (NHSS).

“Health situational awareness includes biosurveillance and other health and non-health inputs (e.g., lab/diagnostics, health service utilization, active intelligence, and supply chain information), as well as systems and processes for effective communication among responders and critical health resource monitoring and allocation,” the draft states.

But as long as this isn’t “telling me what I can do in my own bedroom,” liberals won’t care.

Universities Against Independent Thinking

The American system of higher education has become fundamentally anti-intellectual. Universities offer ridiculous courses on Lada Gaga and Tupac Shakur, entire majors are devoted to useless nonsense like Gender Studies, faculty demands that persons be jailed for holding unpopular opinions, student mobs keep politically incorrect speakers off-campus. Too add to the anti-intellectual atmosphere of the contemporary American campus, there is now a demand that teaching materials contain warning labels advising of politically offensive content.

“Trigger warnings” are the latest crusade on campus, reports the NYT. Students at prominent colleges and universities have been campaigning to force professors to warn students of potentially disturbing or offensive content in the course materials they assign. That could include everything from a violent movie to the anti-Semitic Merchant of Venice. The NYT:

The warnings, which have their ideological roots in feminist thought, have gained the most traction at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where the student government formally called for them. But there have been similar requests from students at Oberlin College, Rutgers University, the University of Michigan, George Washington University and other schools.

Because college is the last place a person should have to be confronted with opinions or ideas that challenge them.
