LA Times Columnist Is Happy US Marine Is in Mexican Prison

LA Times Columnist Robin Abcarian is delighted that Marine Sergeant Andrew Tahmoressi was arrested and thrown into a Mexican prison after inadvertently turning into Mexico. After all, he owned guns, and that means he was probably planning a mass shooting, as everyone who owns a gun is prone to doing (as the progressives see it).

Ms Abcarian has inadvertently provided a bit of service by showing us what the left’s real gun agenda is.

What they say: “We only want common sense gun control to keep guns away from people who are potential mass shooters.”
What they don’t tell you: “We think anyone who owns a gun is a potential mass shooter.”

Toward that end, Second-Amendment-Hating Senator Dianne “Turn ‘Em In, Mr. and Mrs. America” Feinstein has proposed a bill that would allow the police to confiscate anyone’s guns if someone files a complaint alleging that they are in danger of harming themselves or others. The gun-owner would have to go to court and prove they aren’t a threat in order to get their guns back… a process that could take months or years or never as long as liberals are running the courts.

The proposed law is ripe for abuse. Any anti-gun organization could file nuisance complaints against any gun owner, have their guns taken away, and subject them to a lengthy and expensive legal process to get them back. We know from experience the law would be abused in precisely this way.

  1. Feinstein is making sure no one likes her this year.

  3. What bothers me about the gun grabbers, both in legislatures and in the media, is that they have blinders on. They fail to see that most massacres are committed by mental cases. Yes, they are tragic but it’s the age old argument that guns don’t kill, people kill. With all their bloviating and quoting statistics about gun deaths which in 2010 were 11,078. Even one is too many. But they ignore the fact that more people die by vehicles, whether as a driver, passenger, or pedistrian, than by guns. In the past decade vehicular deaths ranged from a high of 43,510 in 2005 to a low of 34,080. It’s plain to see that you have anywhere from three to four times more chances of dying in an auto accident than by a gun. Most vehicles are registered, and in most cases, the driver possesses a valid driver’s license. Gun registration will not significantly reduce gun violence. If they want to take away our guns, take away our vehicles too. Let’s go back to the horse and buggy!!

  5. What is really bad is they ignore the majority of gun crimes in America. Chicago would love to have as few people killed a week as any of the mass shootings but it isn’t reported because the shooters look like Bathhouse Barry’s son.

  6. Someone recently commented that the NRA is responsible for all the deaths in these mass shootings, in this case, the Santa Barbara shooter. I responded that since all of the shooters (so far) have had severe mental problems, and since the ACLU has long advocated for the rights of the mentally ill (mercifully keeping more of them on the streets), perhaps it’s the ACLU who is responsible for all the deaths in these mass shootings.

I also pointed out that Elliot Rodger, before beginning his shooting spree, stabbed to death his three roommates; should we also consider reasonable knife control?

  7. Just curious. Can someone point out to me where it’s possible to make a wrong turn and wind up in Mexico? Is there a road into Mexico with no border station or signs? (Real question)

  8. KCRob,

Greta did retrace on her show a week or so ago. I can not describe it well, but involves some construction, Jersey barriers and a sign that was temporarily leaning against a barrier. It was a situation where a local who knew the drill would think everything was obvious, but a person caught in the maze could miss the sign and end up being funneled into the Mexico border crossing.

Greta was satisfied that it was an honest error in a confusing tangle of roads and barriers.

  9. Polly,

You are so right. It is the ACLU that is responsible for putting mental cases out in public. Many families try their best to monitor their sick family member to take their meds, but they can’t dedicate 24 hours. We need a congress that will say to hell with the ACLU and begin to open mental hospitals with trained staff: to rehab those who can be, and keep keep the more violent ones in permanent supervised lockup.

I would suggest in any discussion about gun control to use the stats that I have stated inmy comment#3. Three to four times more deaths are caused by vehicles. All the restrictions they want on fire arms are already in place for vehicles, which proves that registration is no guarantee of safety. Throw that at them and hear their replies.

  10. @ Roberto: If I could wish for only one organization to go belly-up, it would be the ACLU. It was founded with the express purpose of bringing communism into the United States. Destabilization and division are the name of the game for its leaders.

  12. Lets trade 30 million illegal aliens, for the Marine.

  13. Steve, I can do you one better. Let’s trade with Mexico all the Democrats for one marine. As long as there is a Democrat in either state and federal legislatures the illegals will have an advocate for all the social prograqms and as long as there is no secured border they will continue to arrive.
