ISIS and Obama’s Narcissism

August 20, 2014 by V the K

So, yesterday, the Mohammedan savages of the Islamic State (ISIS) sawed off the head of an American journalist on live video, but no one on the left seems to care very much.

President Obama does not want to deal with ISIS and makes it clear that he does so only with the greatest reluctance. Some say this is out of fear of angering the far left base of his party, but that’s not it. It’s because just a few months ago, he was trash-talking ISIS as the “JV Squad” of Al Qaeda, whom he had put “on its heels” by personally making the “gutsy call” of taking out Osama bin Laden. (Because, you see, no other president would have had the guts to do that. [Well, Bill Clinton didn’t, and he bragged about his failure to kill Osama bin Laden.]}

No, Obama does not want to deal with ISIS because their barbarity is a reminder of his own disastrous foreign policy failure. To admit that this “JV Squad” is a problem would be admitting that he underestimated them, that his policies allowed them to become a threat. His ego simply will not permit him to confront his failure; that would require admitting that he failed.

Secretary of State John F. Kerry matches his boss for egocentric narcissism. He has very little interest in ISIS, his bailiwick is “Global Warming.” Not so much because he believes it is a genuine crisis as it is because he believes that his position will win him plaudits from the New York Times editorial page, the faculty lounge at Harvard, the international elites, and his fellow yachtsmen; the people that really matter.

The Obama Administration will do little to fight ISIS unless they do something really bad, like shoot a 292 pound thug who just robbed a convenience store, or their actions become an unignorable political liability to the Democrat Party. Until such time as that happens, ISIS can go on murdering and beheading as much as they please.

I disagree with your opinion. I used to have this recurring dream where I had to do something like sing a part in an opera, where I didn’t know the script or the music. I believe this is what Obama is experiencing. He is unqualified for the job, and knows it. But he is worried about his image. He doesn’t know what to do, so he stalls and changes the subject. I would pity him if he had ever wanted to do the president’s job. But he never really did. He just wanted to be president.

Killing a US citizen in this fashion should warrant filling the skies with carpet-bombing B-52s, but alas there’s just a wishy-washy press statement in the WH Briefing Room in this debased age.
We “liberated” Iraq from Saddam for this?…!!

I thought Shock-and-Awe was a good idea at-the-time, but the follow-through has sucked. Once Baghdad Bob was on the run, Iraq should have been declared a US Satrap Protectorate for at-least a generation with their oil revenues paying 110% of the costs to the US. And THEN start rolling-out small-d “democracy” from the bottom-up. And the wholesale disbandment of the Iraq Natl. Army was a colossal mistake.

If you will not — or can not — follow-through; don’t do it.

Obama doesn’t want to deal with ISIS because he simply does not care. He has golf and jazz festivals to attend. He also needs to send his wingman, Eric Holder, to the more pressing matter of ‘organizing’, in Ferguson to stir up some shiite in an incident he is not qualified to deal with. He has no law enforcement experience other than releasing terrorists and arming Mexican drug cartels.

And for Obama to come out and say ‘I have to be careful (in this local matter) so as not to put my finger on the scale in any direction’ is complete bullhockey. If he meant that, he wouldn’t send his brownshirt.

We should never have invaded Iraq. It wasn’t our fight and/either Islam and peaceful democracy are incompatible or the former isn’t ready for the latter and won’t be for another several centuries. GHW Bush’s life was threatened by Saddam Hussein and so GW Bush invaded in order to finish daddy’s war and teach Saddam a lesson. Thousands of Americans have and will pay the price for such a folly.

Sometimes the most patriotic thing is to know when not to get involved. As the AA prayer says, “…accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” I wish more Americans were alcoholics.

Obama has a Pentagon to help him make decisions. All he has to do is check a box of multiple choices. It’s not that difficult. He doesn’t want to make a decision, he’s inept. I agree with VtheK’s post.

Politicians distract & try to orchestrate the media & public’s focus. It’s up to the opposition (public & politicians) to keep the national dialogue on point.

The video may or may not be faked by the terrorists. It’s pretty slick & well done, (kept simplistic) as far as production is concerned. It’s important not to overreact, in a knee jerk fashion, to enemy propaganda.

Nothing short of an all-out war of annihilation is going to stop radical Islam. I hope the Chinese have the balls to do it, because we sure as hell don’t.

To stop radical Islam you have to move away from the idea that religion isn’t part of the problem. We are trying tomorrow’s like 99% of Islam just wants peace and is moderate. When that just isn’t the case. I don’t know what percentage of Muslims are moderate but it seems like they are a small percentage and most of them have already left their home countries to the radicals and immigrated elsewhere.

The religion and region are a mess and when liberals talk about the War in Women they would be better to condemn what happens to women in Muslim countries verses who going that they can’t afford $10 for birth control.

#5: I give W the benefit of the doubt on Iraq because (it appears) we were acting based on what we knew at that point (and eliminating Saddam was policy dating from the Clinton years).

The mistake (retrospect) was 1) not letting Saddam know in private that “this cowboy is serious” and 2) assuming we could turn Iraq into some sort or functional society. I’ve come to believe that there are societies that require an evil SOB to keep a lid on the loons.

The bigger problem is that we don’t win wars anymore – with a “win” meaning that the enemy surrenders.

ISIS and radical Islam (and “rare as hen’s teeth” moderate Muslims who won’t stand up and declare which side they’re on) are existential threats.

I don’t think we need another war – but the West would be wise to get together on covert ops to exterminate the worst elements – as long as it takes. And stop immigration from Muslim countries.

We won’t though – we’ve lost confidence in our own civilization.

    (I’m pessimistic today)

The moderate muslim wants the extremist to kill you. Non-muslims have 3 choices under sharia
    1.convert
    2. Pay heavy taxes (jizya)
    3. die
now we see what leftists have in common with them

    Oh, right. Just you.

Plenty of people, on the other hand, understood what I was saying. Richard R., I recall, said that you were wrong.

The only victory you won was that of the ideologue who drives off his disgusted debate partner through stubborn repetition of a mantra, argumentem ad hominem, and old-fashioned insults and name-calling.

In case you haven’t noticed, Iggy, you don’t get a lot of people agreeing with you around here. I wonder why?

We should never have invaded Iraq.

The “conventional wisdom” by the Monday morning quarterbacks is always 20/20.

When we “invaded” Iraq, the DemonizingRats were on board. There was an in-tact alliance on board. Turkey, Eqypt, Saudi Arabia, aided and abetted us. The UN stepped aside.

Qaddafi took one look and coughed up his nuclear program.

The transition from Iraq under US military control to Iraq under its own governance was interrupted by the 2008 elections. Obama made the choice to cut and run at the first possible chance. (He also had the choice to let GM go bankrupt, but decided to bail it out, throw in cash for clunkers and unilaterally rip franchises out from under hundreds of dealerships.)

I would be interested in the way the Iggy worm turns on such ideas of stopping ISIS before it reaches the US “homeland.” Part of the “Bush Doctrine” was to take the war on terrorism to its roots.

Isn’t it just passing strange that the ISIS Caliphate has spread from the chaos of Syria into Iraq and is knocking at the door of the Green Zone in Baghdad?

ISIS may well have captured all manner of US weaponry. But, if they are engaged full force, how will they maintain their war machine and resupply?

There is no doubt that faced with brutal overlords, the populace will choose to obey. But faced with freedom of oppression, will the populace choose to stand united against freedom from oppression?

It would be moderately interesting to hear Iggy out on how he plans to keep the fundamental Islamic brutality locked up in their hood.

Don’t blame the little Jews for the work of Soros, the rabbi that runs Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership says worse things about Soros than anything I have seen here. http://jpfo.org/ gays can join his group also.

Sysan Rice is the the U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Why isn’t she proposing the U.N. pass a resolution condemning ISIS for military agression? They have created a state out of Syria and Irak. Isn’t that some source of a violation of the U.N. Charter? Or does radical islamists control that organization? The body is willing to condemn Israel for defending itself against Hamas. I guess I’ve answered my own question.
