Republican Party to Tea Party Conservatives, “Shut Up and Give Us Your Money”

It has slowly begun to dawn in the reptilian brains of the GOP Establishment that winning the Senate is not a done deal. And after trashing Tea Party conservatives all summer long, the Establishment has begun to realize they can’t win without conservative support. Note, they aren’t apologizing for attacking the Tea Party as “racists” in Mississippi, much less promoting any kind of conservative legislative platform to pursue should they win the senate. They just want conservatives to give their time and money to help elect the same old get-along, go-along Republicans.

Yesterday in the Wall Street Journal, Karl Rove sounded the alarm. Republicans are not doing as well as they should given the election dynamic. According to Rove, “Republican candidates and groups must step up if they are to substantially reduce that gap . . . . [R]educing the Democratic cash advantage will tip the needle in the GOP’s direction. That will only happen if Republicans open their wallets to candidates whom they may have never met, and, if they live in a battleground state, they clear their calendars to volunteer to identify and get out the vote.”

A few hours later, via the National Republican Senatorial Committee’s email list, Haley Barbour sent out a pitch for donations.

And the GOP’s message to conservatives on what they can expect in return…

I guess it’s just hard to contemplate an Obama policy without the words “Miserable Failure” coming to mind.

Secretary of State John Kerry is asked a question about the president’s plan to arm moderate Syrian extremists and hope for the best.

Rubio: Let me ask you about that then. What you’re saying now is there is the potential for the US will be coordinating with Iran?
Kerry: No I never said anything about coordinating. If we are failing and failing miserably who knows what choice they might make.

Yeah, in the span of my own lifetime, America has gone from “Failure is not an option” to “If we fail miserably, maybe Iran can bail us out.” (Although Kerry, realizing his gaffe, tries to turn it around and accuse Senator Rubio of wanting the president’s half-assed scheme to fail.)

Tell me how America hasn’t gone into an accelerated decline under Democrat rule.

David Brooks — you remember him, the guy who voted for Obama because of the fabulous crease in his pants — wishes someone would spend half a billion dollars building summer camps for middle-aged men… so he could make some friends.

I envision a string of adult camps or retreat centers (my oldest friendships were formed at summer camp, so I think in those terms). Groups of 20 or 30 would be brought together from all social and demographic groups, and secluded for two weeks. They’d prepare and clean up all their meals together, and eating the meals would go on for a while. In the morning, they would read about and discuss big topics. In the afternoons, they’d play sports, take hikes and build something complicated together. At night, there’d be a bar and music.

Something tells me that progressives spend a lot of time fantasizing about building camps to send people to.
