A 350-pound mother of two claims the reason she is morbidly obese is because she needs more of taxpayers’ money to break her bad eating habits.
Christina Briggs, of Wigan, England, says she can only afford junk food and that she doesn’t exercise because she doesn’t have enough funds to join a gym, the Daily Mail reports.
“It’s not easy being overweight and on benefits,” the single mother told Closer Magazine. “If I was well off, I’d be able to buy fresh food and afford a gym membership.”
Granted, it does cost a little more to buy healthy food, but going from the picture, she seems to have plenty of money for hair dye, tattoos, and piercings. I also would not be surprised if she had a better phone than I do.
She doesn’t need a gym membership to get in shape. She should pretend that cars contain a football player willing to marry any woman and chase after them. She could play the icecream truck song on her mp3 player.
Not if you consume it in small quantities.
This line from the original article at opposingviews.com is cute:
Umm…isn’t cutting back on pizza and Chinese takeout sort of the point? Could this story be really about the poor state of British education?
Though the woman is British, Dinesh D’Souza’s anecdote about America also comes to mind here:
Shame on you for making a nasty crack about her hair dye. She obviously can’t afford napkins and is forced to use her hair to clean the Cheetos off her hands.
As a side question, do England’s welfare queens always get housing with granite countertops??
Uh, huh.
Time once again to remind any leftist bleeding hearts what ‘poverty’ means when you live in the United States.
It makes you well off compared to most other people in the world…that’s what it means.
This person has no shame. What happened to shame?
It costs a little more to buy healthy food. Nonsense.
The crap that she has in her cupboard there isn’t cheap stuff.
She doesn’t need to buy organic or gourmet stuff to eat healthy; but, by God, she doesn’t have to eat that crap – Cadbury, Pop-Tarts, Chips Ahoy, Marshmallow Fluff, etc. Some of those might be fine as a once-in-a-while snack. But, she has the cupboard full of it.
She can’t afford good food? Where are the cans of baked beans, the bags of rice, cans of peas or other veggies, or anything else that might make part of a balanced meal.
I’ll bet her idea of a balanced meal is fast food (or the UK’s fish and chips – just like the junk in her cupboard – tasty, but only occasionally, not everyday).
And she cannot afford to exercise? Last I checked walking was free.
I’d also bet that she is making her kids fat too. Which is the worst part of her laziness – she is inflicting her obesity of others.
KCRob, what happened to shame? It’s been replaced with entitlement. Britain, the U.S. and every other nation that embraces socialist ideas breeds into the less economically endowed society this sense that they are entitled to a portion of the wealth of the very rich. Simply because the rich have it, and they don’t. It’s why panhandlers can come up to you demanding money, if you look halfway affluent. Demanding it, not requesting it, and they call you names if you refuse, because you obviously hate the poor.
This is why I have become an advocate of allowing, not an income credit, but a tax credit, for every dollar you give to an organization that directly helps the poor. These charities don’t put up with the idea of entitlement. They foster gratitude. And gratitude is a very powerful motivator.
Well, you would be expecting people on the dole to have a large brain with which to use. But regrettably, the poor among us often have low IQ’s and the inability to take care of themselves.
