How Not to be Racist

October 4, 2014 by V the K

It’s very difficult because, according to the left, each of the things on this list… and many, many more things… are racist; especially (and often only if) they are said by white conservative people.

Things That Are Racist

1. Talking About Ebola(Salon)

2. Describing the Hong Kong protests as “clean and orderly” (Vox)

3. Pointing out that white people use heroin(Salon)

4. #BringBackOurGirls(Salon)

5. Describing Obama as “angry”(MSNBC)

6. The American Revolution(Salon)

7. Children’s books with white characters(Salon)

…

Also the editors of a college newspaper also want you to know that bras are racists.  And, apparently, eating any form of ethnic food on a date is also racist.

So, to avoid being a racist, simply never talk about Obama, Ebola, drugs, history, literature or anything else. And don’t eat ethnic foods. And don’t wear bras.

Just try and keep up with everything that liberals say is racist and don’t do any of it, and you won’t have a problem.

If you think that’s a problem.

Update (from Jeff): Uh-oh, I was going to re-post this cartoon on the condition of America’s political discourse. Is it racist?

I’m surprised at not seeing more talk from lefties of Tolkien’s books being racist. (Or have I simply missed out?)

These are actual lines, spoken by an actual good guy in the original _Lord of the Rings_ novel:

What are these black men after, and where do they come from, I’d like to know?
    …
No black man shall pass my doors, while I can stand on my legs.

In context, it’s fine because it’s only Butterbur talking about the Nazgul. But I do sorta wonder what a black kid thinks, when he reads it. Or a leftie.

Another cultural phenomenon that I would expect lefties to call racist, is Star Trek. You see, every real fight in Star Trek ultimately comes down to race-based conflict…human race vs. some non-human (get it? dehumanized) ‘Other’ race. Star Trek pretends to be about science and progress, but… structurally, it’s about race-war.

But I think I understand why lefties have a blind spot about it. Star Trek reinforces their prejudices: it presents the myth of an “enlightened” future that has been re-made as lefties would desire. (No money, strict social equality, capitalists and morally-oriented religionists are bad guys, etc.) The fact that it’s a deeply racist, fascist society (no real political dissent; military is glorified as a wonderful, enlightened place where all the action is and all the ‘good’ people wanna be) is something that lefties can overlook. The more so, as it accords with lefties’ own darker (unadmitted) wishes.

I think you may have misread my post. It was about how racist it is to assume non-WASP food is weird and exotic and too foreign for first dates. So basically the opposite of what you’re saying it is. Not sure if you care, but you know.

For a while now I’ve been wanting to print up some “You’re doing Diversity wrong” bumper stickers.

Earlier today at the range I had a rather lengthy coffee chat with a member I didn’t know well, retired LEO/EMS if I understood correctly, after he volunteered a number of very useful suggestions about my revolver grip. By the end it was pretty clear that we had some pretty major discrepancies in how we view the world (off the top of my head, the role of religion in daily life, gender integration (military vs LE), other talking point line items, plus I think he likes girls!). Somehow none of that actually mattered, since we were both focused on ideas that we had in common. It was an invigorating discussion (not debate, since mostly we were validating each other), and I believe we both came away wiser.

For a while now, it’s been bandied about how “Race” doesn’t exist in our genetic code, how at a molecular (DNA) level, we are all 99+% identical. Likely most readers here get that by celebrating what makes us different while embracing the vast majority of ways that we are the same, we all are made stronger. I still hope that some day the rest will figure it out, too.

As for 24th Century San Francisco, some of those old Treks are getting really tough to watch. The Next Gen where they were stuck in 1890 with Mark Twain and Whoopi was on the other day, and I think I was cringing through the whole episode. I better get back to Bab 5, where personal responsibility and capitalism are the rules of the land and a secret, intrusive central government is to be feared.

Is it just me, or do the people who use the term “racist” more so than those they use the adjective on?

    I mean, seriously?

99.9% of the time, the accusation of “racism” from the Left is just another cheap way, like claiming “privilege,” of shutting down a debate without having to actually defend their point of view with facts.

And they do that because they HAVE no facts. Remember when Chris Matthews said that using words like “golf” and “Chicago” in relation to Obama was racist?

They are complete failures by every measurable metric, so all they can do is cry like babies on changing tables and scream accusations to deflect blame.

Oh, don’t get me on the “privilege” crap… “Privilege” is nothing more than a way to say, “I know you’re a racist, even if I can’t prove it, simply because I know your life story far better than you know mine, even if we just met.”

Also racist is cops putting black on white attacks to youtube attempting to find criminals. Videos can be hate facts also.

Nice to hear from Heina @ #4. I went to her blog and read the article VtheK linked above. Here is Heina’s conclusion in her words:

Calling out racism is more along the lines of the image. We’re not hunting for racism any more than we are hunting for sexism. Instead, we’re seeing it where you might not realize it exists.

Wow! Heina and her “we” cadre are natural “racism” ferrets who know it when they see it and nothing else matters.

That is to say, you are guilty, you just don’t know it. Heina even launches on Xenaphobia and signs off with:

Another day in the life of a person of color

Now just who is seeing the world through the color of her skin? Just who is not racist because seeing the world through the color of your skin transcends racism? (Unless you are white?)

I do not ever mention the color of my skin because I don’t shiv a git about it or the color of anybody else’s skin. In fact, I “pity the fool” who is hung up on his/her skin and leads with it over the content of his/her character and the commonality of human-kind.

The “topic” of Heina’s blog was:

It was about how racist it is to assume non-WASP food is weird and exotic and too foreign for first dates. ( … ) The problem is with the assumption that everyone is familiar with the same things — and that non-white things are automatically more unfamiliar and/or messy to everyone than “white” things.

I travel the world, literally, and I have shied away from eyeballs staring out of soup, mildly roasted grubs on a stick oozing their innards, testicles and a heck of a lot of stuff at the night markets in China, Thailand, Java, India, Senegal, Peru, Guatemala, Japan and Bangladesh. I really don’t care to watch sausage being made or tripe being prepared. First date or not. So, if I am white, that apparently is a racist, xenophobic reaction to the wonderful world of “colored” diversity.

Glad to hear it. If Heina were Al Gore, she would be selling me racism credits so I could be relieved of my guilt as imposed by persons of color. A sort of good old fashioned Roman Catholic indulgence scheme.

From my perspective, Heina is a naif without a rock of principles to stand on and is so uncomfortable in her own skin that she feels compelled to lash out in the manner of true xenophobe by finding fault with others based on the color of their skin. Oh, yeah, it is also her liberal, progressive replacement for religion. She has settled for the opiate of her own opinion and raised it to the level of Grand Wizard of sexism and racism. Good on her. As long as you are transported by your own piety who needs critics?

Wow. I was gonna say, “Hey Heina, welcome to Gay Patriot, thanks for the clarification,” but your way was much better. I tried to read her blog, too, but got bored and didn’t finish. I never even figured out her skin color (or gender for that matter), I must have forgotten to check and it didn’t seem particularly relevant at the time.

    1) Are “othering” and “otherize” real words?

    2) I am not white and I avoid garlic and red sauce at social/work lunches because the former causes discomfort and the latter I invariably drop on my blouse. And oh btw, I avoided chopsticks for a while until I learned to use them effectively. Does that make me racist?

It must be very exhausting to think like this.

Speaking of racist bumper stickers, I just saw my very first “Carson ’16.” On a beat-up Hyundai with NY tags driven by an old white guy. Can you believe the audacity of some people!
