Tom Steyer, the billionaire climate crony spending some $76,000,000 in an attempt to buy the US Senate (with not a peep from any of the progressives claiming we need to “take big money out of politics”) was probably been the money man behind the NARAL Ad in Colorado that accused Republican Cory Gardner of seeking to outlaw contraception.
Steyer’s NextGen Climate Action Committee reportedly gave $239,000 to a Colorado NARAL affiliate the day before they spent the money on the spots accusing Cory Gardner of wanting to ban birth control.
For those who haven’t heard it, here’s part of the text of the ad.
Woman: So *everyone’s* sold out of condoms? Hmm. How did this happen?
Man: Cory Gardner banned birth control. And now, it’s all on us guys. And you can’t find a condom *anywhere*. And the pill was just the start. Pell grants my little brother was counting on for college? Cory cut them. Climate change that *everyone* knows is weirding our weather, Cory flat-out denies it. Sweet Pea, Cory denies science!
Because the Democrat base of horny, stupid women really believe Republicans want to outlaw contraception… and burn up the environment… and outlaw college educations. Also, Christian Terrorists murder gay people every day. #ThingsStupidPeopleBelieve
One thing about college spending I dislike is that a military recruiter I knew talked about how non-Asian minorities that score so low on the asvab ( a six part g- weighted IQ test) that they couldn’t join the military for any job would tell him that they got a full ride to college when he told them they didn’t qualify. So maybe just maybe we shouldn’t be giving out taxpayer money for college to those not smart enough to be a grunt or cook.
The attacks on Cory Gardner so far haven’t stuck and we’re just 5 days away from election night. Sabato’s Crystal Ball changed the race to leans GOP so I think we can *cautiously* call this doomed for Mark Udall. Cory Gardner for US Senate
I’m not sure Larry is weighting the projection with the fact that this election, for the first time ever, every current Colorado voter was sent a ballot in the mail, whether desired or not. Even worse: while you can cast your received-in-the-mail ballot at an in-person Voter Service Center, if your mailed-out ballot has already been cast, then that is your vote. (Even if it really isn’t.)
It doesn’t take a doctorate in poli sci to figure out that this opens the election up to a special kind of fraud: namely, voting on behalf of another person. While ballots are required to be signed to be counted, are all county clerks going to insist that grandma’s signature in 2014 exactly match that on her voter registration card submitted in 1972? (Particularly if she now resides in a nursing home with a palsy or other motor impairment?)
Further, how are the Dem GOTV efforts going to handle the task when you no longer need to get someone a ride to the polls, but merely go into their home and “supervise” their ballot completion?
