The Hobgoblin of Little Minds

November 7, 2014 by V the K

The New Republic has sorted it all out for us. When Republicans use the filibuster to restrain a Democrat majority, it’s unconstitutional, and just plain evil. But when Republicans are the senate majority, the filibuster is a very important tool and should be used “ruthlessly” to make sure Republicans can’t accomplish anything.

Sample:

New Republic, November 21, 2013: Stupid filibuster!

Nuking the Filibuster Is Great. Sanctimonious Beltway Types Just Won’t Admit It.

New Republic, November 4, 2014 (just after GOP retakes the Senate): Second look at the filibuster?

Common Core Creator admits it was designed to end Asian/White privilege. After years of seeing the only way to get black/brown better is with teachers altering standardized test answers in Atlanta/Philly they decided to try and drag the productive down for equality. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=LQ8Nr3_2724

As Dennis Miller once quipped, Liberalism is a like a nude beach: it’s always a lot better in your mind than in real life.

I can remember when The New Republic, always a left-of-center bulwark, was readable for skewering both sides of the political fence. Now under owner Chris Hughes, it’s simply The Nation lite, with better window dressing.

Fortunately for everyone except them, his boyfriend-of-the-decade/husband/concubine/whatever won’t be screwing things up in Congress anytime soon.

IDK – I think the TNR is a lot funnier.

On the subject of standards, rumor has it that the Left no longer thinks double standards are sufficient, and work on triple and even quadruple standards are proceeding.
