Taking a page from the Government of North Korea, the gay left and their allies once again punish someone for not cheering loudly enough at the Pride Parade.
Atlanta Fire Rescue Chief Kelvin Cochran did the unthinkable: he published a book expressing his Christian views toward homosexuality and various other sexual sins. For this grievous offense, he must now be suspended for one month without pay, undergo sensitivity training, and keep his mouth shut if he ever wants to work again.
District 6 Councilmember Alex Wan, who is openly homosexual, said, “When you’re a city employee, and [your] thoughts, beliefs and opinions are different from the city’s, you have to check them at the door.”

Orwell’s 1984 wasn’t seen by progs as a warning; it was seen as “hey, this might just work”.
I’m not religious and all that but (aside from Islam), I don’t fear religion nor do I harbor any ill will towards religious people – they respect my rights and I respect theirs.
What I do fear is a ruling class willing to use the power of the state to enforce accepted thought. This is evil and will not end well.
We’re already at the point where “subversive” thinkers are required to denounce themselves at show trials. It’s not that far to the gulags.
Where does one go to get a copy of the official opinions of the city?
The “city” is a collection of buildings, sewers, streets, land and other inanimate objects incapable of opinions. Therefore, the “city” must be a persona, much like a corporation, in order to have “opinions.”
Furthermore, those opinions are, apparently, monolithic as employees must not be at variance with said official opinions.
So, how do the official opinions arise, get recognized, laid in stone and amended?
Alex Wan has some serious ‘splainin’ to do.
Methinks he is full of bully and manure.
From what I’ve read, it’s not that he wrote the drivel itself, but it’s that he promoted the book as the “Fire Chief of Atlanta” and used his official office and rank to legitimize and promote it. One report objecting pointed to his book’s author-photograph in the fly-leaf of the cover having him in his official Fire Department uniform and credited his rank and position. Another report said he was handing out copies within the Fire Dept. while on the clock and in uniform.
If he had written it as solely a private citizen — and published and promoted privately on his own time — I don’t think he would have gotten in this trouble. But I think that using is rank, position and uniform to lend the imprimatur of the City of Atlanta and it’s fire department definitely crossed a line.
Exactly, Ted. If you’re an author of erotica, for example, but you’re also a part of the local Big Brother/Big Sister program down at the community center, I don’t think you’d want to promote yourself as an author of erotica. I don’t think too many parents would want to leave their 8-year-old with a porn peddler for a few hours per week.
It’s obvious that you’re still having problems with “apples to oranges” comparisons.
Ted B. is right, but not for the reason you think.
Mr. Cochran has every right to hold the viewpoint that he does and to write and sell his book, but he does not have the right to promote the book on department time nor does he have the right to use the local government’s imprimatur to promote it.
And none of that excuses Ms. Wan’s comments, which I suspect you don’t have a lot of problems with.
You’re problem (one of many), is that you likely think that just holding the opinions that Mr. Cochran does regarding homosexuality disqualifies him from his captaincy of the fire dept.
That’s you leftist/fascist streak leaking out again.
True.
On the other hand, do you think he would’ve gotten in trouble if he had published a book entitled Jesus Urges You to Vote for Gay Marriage! while “using his rank, position and uniform to lend the imprimatur of the City of Atlanta and its fire department”?
In that hypothetical scenario, I’m sure that CNS would’ve raised a stink and Fox News would’ve picked up the story, but I doubt that Mr. Cochran would’ve been suspended for a month.
Exactly so, Throbert.
There is a big difference between using your credentials to push something and citing them as your experiences. If he said “as a fire chief if you put a copy of this book in your window your house will not burn down” he would be abusing his credentials. If he said “as a fire chief I have seen lots of destruction and people recovering from bad points in their life” he is citing experience.
I should also point out that 1stresponders have a realist based ideas on how people live given they enter peoples homes at unplanned times. The HIPPA law would prevent the fire chief from saying about ambulance crews treating Alex Wan after having relations with a horse, but he could mention it happened to a local gay politician.

#FullMcIntosh chimes in on twitter from his ivory tower:
“3 faces in the #StarWars trailer are those of a black man, white woman & latino man piloting a X-Wing. That matters more than you may think.”
Also the sith weapon looks like a Cross. Maybe they will change the name to Revenge of the Social Media Justice Worrier. Where do black guys come from in the SW universe as the closest thing to black women seen are the Huts?
Shall we say “Zeig Heil”, “Dear Leader”, or bow like people did with Joseph or Mao. Our country is losing freedom of speech, well at least for conservatives and libertarians.
Somebody needs to tell the Commissar for Gay Approval that the First Amendment to the US Constitution does not contain an exception for government employees.
