The New York Times Timothy Egan was apparently in a coma from 2001-2008.
From the day he took office, [Obama has] been personally insulted, lectured, yelled at and disrespected in public, by public figures, in a way that few if any American presidents have ever faced.
Also… racism.
For those who can’t even see the humanity in the man because of his race, try to respect the title that comes before his name. It’s there forevermore.
Ah, so we’re so supposed to respect the president… to preserve the dignity of the office. This from a guy who described George W Bush as “at home in his bathtub, painting pictures of his toenails…”
Egan’s comment is accurate, if you just alter the referents a little (changes in CAPS):
In other words, Timothy Egan thinks that any dissent or criticism is evil.
Remember the old game “Who goes Nazi?”
Nearly 100% of today’s “progressives” would enthusiastically support any fascist regime.
pst314 – I’ve been developing a post in my head, on that very theme.
The “nice”, “good” liberals in America today do believe, for all practical purposes, that a Big government (with the strength to unify the populace around their viewpoint) is the answer to every problem. Which makes such people the affirmative answer to the questions “How could fascism have happened among all those good Germans?” and “Could it happen here?”
Such people just don’t realize that they are the affirmative answer; that *they are* the equivalent of all those “nice” or “good” Germans who went along with Hitler. Such people don’t realize (and probably would never admit or agree) that they are already fascists.
But that whole lack of awareness of just what it means to make the government savior if everything is why Hitler was able to do what he did. He snickered the population on the small stuff then once he had that power he went full on and the population couldn’t stop him.
Progressives live to say conservatives are racists but the reality is that progressive thought is about as fascist as one can get.
