The modern press

February 17, 2015 by Jeff (ILoveCapitalism)

The Telegraph is a respected, conservative British paper. Except, according to ex-employee Peter Oborne, it has been going downhill – along with the rest of the media:

It is not only the Telegraph that is at fault here. The past few years have seen the rise of shadowy executives who determine what truths can and what truths can’t be conveyed across the mainstream media.

Oborne’s thought-provoking piece contains much more; I enjoyed (though was saddened by) Reading The Whole Thing. Hat tip: ZH.

I am saddened at the decline of the Telegraph. It is/was a quality publication, and I enjoyed its quality of writing and breadth of coverage.

I didn’t think it would kill itself off as Peter Oborne alleges (allowing that even with his examples he might be wrong, although I doubt it). I figured a Big Brother type of government would be the killer of the paper as it kept to the values summed up in the expression (pre-WWII song), “there’ll always be an England”.

The “great newspapers” have all had a checkered past of bashing the competition and manipulating and manufacturing the “news.” The idea of “pure” journalistic integrity is the love child of the Utopian left. And the Utopian left is built on top of the manure of lies, overreaching promises and demagoguery.

When Al Gore wasn’t able to steal the presidency in 2000, he turned up at Columbia School of Journalism where he babbled to a select group for obscene amounts of money. He required that what he told the budding journalists be kept in the strictest of secrecy. Now that is Utopian journalism practiced at its highest order.

For no particular reason at all, New York City is where all the swells of journalism live, gather and preen among themselves. They are sharks swimming among sharks looking for a weakness or some blood, but they also heave to and circle the wagons and defend the wretched excesses and daffy miscues within the group as if the whole universe is at stake.

There is precious little dividing the journalists from Hollywood. Everything boils down to popularity and box office receipts.

Hey Jeff I know you like your bankers dead but did you see 3 journalists in 24 hours including one that just interviewed Snowden

It would be better if they died for lying instead of telling the truth.
