Ted Cruz announced he is running for president, which comes as a surprise to no one. I like Ted Cruz a lot, but I am wary of ideologically driven men who run for president before completing a single term in the senate. That has never worked out well for us as a country.
The Democrats are attacking Ted Cruz as the architect of the Government “shutdown” that they claim “cost the economy $24 Billion.” To me, and others who can process information in a rational way, this actually makes the case for Ted Cruz or someone like him. When Democrats make the attack that Government spending is necessary to sustain the economy, they are admitting that the economy is dysfunctional. If the economy requires trillions of dollars in deficit spending to keep from collapsing, something is deeply wrong with it.
And if you think that constantly running up Trillions of dollars in debt is a sustainable economic model, I know an adult pre-school in Brooklyn who will gladly accept your Visa card.
Everyone has their opinion, I just don’t trust Sen. Cruz since;
a. He comes-across as slightly-shifty. He strikes me as an ideologue and a campaigner, not a leader for a crisis.
b. His wife is a very senior executive with Goldman Sacks, so any attacks or criticisms he makes against Big Money or Wall Street are hypocritical since his family is personally-benefiting substantially from those very financial practices.
c. He reminds me of Obama when running in 2008, and not in a good way….
I’m pleased to hear someone actually call out progressive policy and not be afraid of the slings and arrows progressives will now hurl at him.
I also have reservations regarding senators that don’t finish out their terms & who are known for using parliamentary tricks just for the fun of it, witnessed by insiders who say he was rubbing his hands in glee when throwing a wrench, for little reason & without substantial expectations, into the works.
I despise Establishment Republicans, but I loathe opportunists & poseurs.
In the interest of, “fairness,” Ted Cruz does have a resume.

Relax and keep your powder dry. As a wise man once said, “In chess, the pawns move first.”
Jeb was the opening move, to block Hillary from coming onto the board. As she continues to self-immolate, it remains to be seen if that job is done or if he’ll actually need to engage.
Cruz makes an excellent Wild Weasel. He flares so brightly on everyone’s screen that he’ll draw an ungodly amount of flak from every side. Hopefully that screen can be exploited as the more serious players get tapped.
But do we really need yet-another-clever-lawyer as POTUS?
Everyone thought Bill Clinton was the cleverest man in the room.
Everyone thought Barack Obama was the cleverest man in the room.
Everyone thinks Hillary Clinton is the cleverest man in the room.
Joe Biden, lawyer
John Kerry, lawyer
John Edwards, lawyer
Mario Coumo, lawyer
Geraldine Ferraro, lawyer
Dan Quayle, lawyer
Gerald Ford, lawyer
Richard Nixon, lawyer
Spiro Agnew, lawyer
Too-many lawyers, not enough builders.
Dems can’t attck Ted for lack of experience. He has as much, if not more, than Barak Obama at the time he was nominated. In his time in the Illinois State Senate, Obama never authored any legislation and most of his votes were “present,” except for partial birth abortion. He has had no accomlishments in the U.S. Senate, and with two years under his belt he threw his hat into the ring. Because he was a pretty face, the MSM jumperd on his band wagon.
Ted, on the other hand, offers some experience. He was the longest serving solicitor general in the history of Texas. Also, he served as the states AG. He, too, like Obama was an adjunct professor of law, but at the UT. He is not my first choice, but as my second choice I would support him. He is a man of principles, conservative principles. We need a conservative president. Because of the radical left leadership (?) the ship of state is listing. A conservative will right the ship so that we all can sail to a more prosperous journey in life.
It’s a flaw of electoral Democracy; people who want to run for office are people who want to have power. These are the very people power should be kept away from.
I would much prefer that legislators were chosen by citizen lottery. Then, we would get more builders and fewer lawyers.
@6, Ted B.
Point well taken, that’s why my first choice is Donald Trump.
In a comment in my local paper (owned by a liberal Congresswoman’s husband), a liberal decried that a sitting Senator should not be running for POTUS before the end of their term. haha
He’ll be the theocratic version of Ron Paul. Very loud, idealistic, and stubborn, but won’t appeal to a wide electorate. I’ll be surprised if he makes it to Iowa.
What I find funny is there are now leftist birthers saying Cruz is not a natural born citizen but bath house barry was.
Err, it’s easy to be the “longest serving Texas Solicitor General” (2003-2008) when the position was only created in 1999. A rather short tenure against the 170-year glorious history of the State of Texas.
And he doesn’t seem to hold a job for very-long before moving on and up-the-political ladder. A Supreme Court clerkship, only a 1-1/2 of private practice at Cooper, Carvin & Rosenthal before joining Bush-43, and an addl. 2-yrs at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius before joining the Senate. Plus at-least 6 different political appointments or advancements.
Again he reminds me of Barack Obama…
Ted B.: In regards to Ted Cruz’s stint in private practice, you have to remember that big law firms tend to have VERY high attrition rates. Most new associates leave within a 3 year period.
It’s not his character, nor his skills as a lawyer I question. It’s do we NEED yet another lawyer in-the-first-place.
And his restless resume’ uncomfortably-reminds me of Obama’s. A-year-here, and a-year-there, hop-hop-climb-hop, and suddenly he’s POTUS material?
I admit im tired of lawyers.
I also am leery of electing another first term senator but at least he has had executive branch experience.
He isn’t my favorite but I dont oppose him-would like to see how the election plays out. Right now I find I’m leaning very much towards Walker but it’s still a good year and a half away.
No more Ivy Leaguers, please. We’ve seen the damage they’ve wrought upon this country.
We know the damage that both Bushes inflicted…no need to explain it here.
Clinton tarnished the image of the Oval Office with his and his wife’s many crimes.
Obama…well…no explanation needed either, heh.

I like some things about Cruz, but I can’t give him my full support because of his stance on certain issues. Which, come to think about it, is how a feel about all of the Republican potentials. Egads.
To get my support, a Republican candidate will need to do three things: set out a plan to strengthen the economy, set out a plan to secure the borders, and set out a sensible defense policy.
The fact that you losers even show a shred of respect to Cruz is pathetic. This guy has an obsession with hurting gay people; he constantly talks about wanting to prevent gays from having any rights and would send them to concentration camps if his mandatory reparative therapy plan doesn’t work. Cruz is an unattractive version of Adolf Hitler. Why does this site even have the word “Gay” in it? You are all a bunch of self loathing closet cases who are plotting your own demise.
Ooh, look, it’s Cut-N-Paste!
Hey, guess what, Cut-N-Paste? You want to bash Goldman Sachs? You want to scream that anyone associated with Goldman Sachs is bad and evil?

Now watch as Cut-N-Paste runs away and refuses to comment. Looks like poor Cut-N-Paste is a liar and a hypocrite and a slanderer.
While I like many of Cruz’s views, his tactics are wrong. There are better Republicans that should win the nomination.
