The Empire Strikes Back

April 16, 2015 by V the K

George Lucas’s wealthy, progressive neighbors wouldn’t let him build a film studio on land he owns in Marin County, CA. So, to get back at them, he’s going to use the land to build “affordable housing.”

Lucas, the Star Wars creator is offering his own property in west Marin County off Lucas Valley Road near Novato for the project, with plans for a community of 224 homes right where neighbors said no to his studio expansion.

“He said ‘we’ve got enough millionaires here. What we need is some houses for regular working people,’” Lucas’ lawyer Gary Giacomini said.

To paraphrase one comment, this is the ultimate rich progressive leftist revenge; forcing other rich, progressive leftists to live around working class/middle income people.

    Bwahhahhahhahah…!!!!!

“What? You peasants don’t want my studio…and it’s well-paid workforce spending it’s money in your community? Congratulations, you get MORE PEASANTS instead to burden your infrastructure instead. Enjoy…”

May the Schwartz be with you.

What’s ironic is that Lucas once loathed the studio system. Now he has become one of the very studio managers he once railed against. Kinda like a certain Sith Lord, come to think…

Watching the Marin County more-liberal-than-thou types squirm their way out of this should be entertaining. Of course, “affordable housing” for some of these folks may start at $1 million or so.

What they really need is some of the vibrant diversity that comes with Section 8 housing.

It’s nice to see a wealthy progressive lefty make a decision that is deserving of some respect.

“Affordable” in that area, rarely is. I worked on the “affordable housing” racket. Most this will do is get people on a tizzy there. (I used to live VERY close.) In it will actually help out much of the area with their ongoing fight with ABAG who wants to ghost more “affordable housing” on Marin.

The irony behind the push for “affordable housing” in California is of the state and local governments didn’t make it so freaking expensive to build housing, there would magically *BE* actual affordable housing, not the artificially created, inaccurately called, politically manipulated “affordable housing.”

“fight with ABAG who wants to FOIST more “affordable housing” on Marin…” NOT “ghost.”

“Affordable housing” is just another social justice vague concept that is meant to hook up with a voter’s emotions. Build it and “they” will come. Ever try to evict a Section 8 home wrecker from your “affordable” housing unit?

How many “homeless” people could we house, feed, medicate and do social work on if we put them in military base style housing? How many would stay?

Everyone who has this burr in their shorts needs to get really familiar with what the Salvation Army knows about people needing stability.

Lucas’ lawyer, Gary Giacomini, say that they are planning to build houses “for regular working people.” Of course, Lucas is not thinking of the lower levels of the “regular working people” or struggling working people or the part-timers or those who have given up looking for work.

No, he wants something off the Monopoly board that is in the red, yellow or green level properties. He certainly is not thinking brown or sky blue. “Those” brown and sky blue people may work regularly, but they are likely to be less than socially enlightened in terms of the Lucas vision of harmony.

Maybe he will do some sort of pie-in-sky plan like Reston, Virginia. But housing projects take on a life of their own and soon enough, they become “unaffordable” according to the original intent or they slide into market chaos and deteriorate.

Frankly, I believe this is nothing more than an impetuous pissing contest between bloated plutocrats.
