A single parent of two children would need to work 50 hours a week at a minimum-wage job in the U.S. to earn 50% of the nation’s net median household income, the organization’s international equivalent for the poverty line. “That’s just wrong.” – Cory Booker
Working 50 hours a week is injustice to Cory Booker?
“Have you ever had a f#cking real job?” asks Ace at the link.
Recently, I had a conversation with my son, who was frustrated by his inability to move up as rapidly as he would like. I had to explain to him that hiring an employee is making an investment; for an employer to hire someone even at minimum wage is roughly equivalent, in terms of cost, to buying a higher-end pickup truck. Before an employer makes that kind of investment, they want some assurance that the investment is going to pay off; which is why they want things like credentials and references. As an indicator of intellect or ability, a college degree is meaningless. However, it does show an employer that you are capable of starting and finishing a long-term task.
The Cory Bookers of the world don’t get any of this. Everyone is entitled to whatever they think is a “living wage,” whether they provide living wage value to an employer or not.
Face it, when you looked at the protesters in Baltimore or Ferguson… who would want to hire them? Bitter, angry, entitled, often barely coherent, and likely to fly into a rage at the slightest perception that they are not getting enough.
the reason people have to work two jobs in the united states is that you need one salary for yourself and another to pay for the politicians.
When I worked a weekend option every c#nt was envious that I had 5 days off at full time pay. They could have done it also but the requirements where too high for them.
Dear me, will Marxism forever attract moths to its flames? Cory Booker is trying to sell the value of labor theory that ran rampant through the pages of Das Kapital.
Here’s the rub. China is building an all robot factory. Why? Because even the cheapest of labor affects the quality and profit base of a product. The Chinese are looking at cheap labor and saying: “You didn’t build that.” Do you suppose that makes Marxist Fauxcahantas Warren gleeful?
Greece is circling the drain and keeps reaching up and pulling the handle and keeps flushing itself. They had a scheme where a citizen worked for a couple of decades and then laid back and got paychecks forever until death cancelled the contract. Then they discovered there were no funds to fund the fundamentally foundation free house of cards. Strange. They built that and it has collapsed.
We have about 94,000,000 (94 million) age qualified people who are not in the labor force by desire and availability for work. The population of the United States is 319 million people ranging in age from just born to nearly dead. 30% of the entire population which is capable of working has decided not to work.
Do that many trust fund babies exist? Really?
What percent of those able, but not working people draw government entitlement money? Or, put another way, how many of them are on the welfare trust funds doled out by Uncle Sugar?
If there is no pressing need to work, it is good enough for too many to sell “looseys” and weed and boost a box of Swisher cigars and make “lean” with Arizona Watermelon Fruit Juice Cocktail, Skittles and cough syrup. There is a subculture out there living off their government issued EBT cards and doing whatever it takes for a little extra walking around money.
Cory Booker is spewing classic socialist doctrine. Every life matters to the state, so the state must redistribute from each according to his means and to each according to the ever increasing level of state decreed social justice.
You see, social justice is a commodity. The state weighs and measures it. If you have too much, it is called “privilege” and that is disproportionate, unfair and unequal. The state simply must step in and wipe that privilege off your ledger.
Apparently, it is no longer necessary to be burdened with a work ethic, responsibility, self-reliance and ambition in order to get a living wage. All you need to do is be a tick gorging in the crotch of Uncle Sugar and Cory Booker will make your bed for you. Nice gig.
I recently had a welfare mom tell me that welfare doesn’t give her enough, AND property owners are greedy. She actually said property owners deduct their entire mortgage payments, not true. But even if they did, how is that greedy? She in the meantime had free tax payer college which she took advantage of but then chose tax payer more. She gets “free”,rent, food, utilities, car, gas, day care, preschool. I work 9 hours a day, my husband works 13 hours a day, just to pay our bills, and theirs.
Get up, go to work everyday for your welfare because it’s pay.
The Senator will be pleased as punch to see that a record number of people aren’t working at all. Fifty hours? How about zero?

My answer to Cory Booker: “Yep. It’s a shame single black mothers have to work harder because you and T-Bone won’t stay put, won’t care for your children, and won’t work to help your families.”
Make the Marxist choke on his own laziness.
Heliotrope, once again your epic wordsmithing brings me to my knees! Amen, brother! A bunch of running friends and I had this conversation yesterday–what kind of loser works a minimum wage job their entire life? Anybody? (And please don’t beat me over the head with those who have special needs that are hired to sweep the floors at Starbucks, etc. I’m obviously not including them when I call minimum wage careerists losers!)
Very nicely and accurately stated, Heliotrope! Nothing more need be said. You summed up my own sentiments on the matter perfectly.
Many professions have a 50 or more hour work week. My brother in law is a doctor and most days he works about 10-12 hours and even more if it’s his turn to be on call. Most CEOs work 50-60 hours. Most salaried workers work 50 hours and the self employed often workaday more than 50 hours.
I know a slew of attorneys who are temping doing “doc review.” Basically, this entails sitting in front of a computer screen for 10-plus hours a day, coding documents. Typical pay is $30 per hour, with time-and-a-half for OT, which is harder to come by, these days. These folks work all the hours they can get their hands on, no complaints, no agitprop for political interference on their behalf to raise their wages. Many of them attempt to find full-time work; some are successful at finding full-time jobs, others persist by choice, because they like the scheduling flexibility.
