Mother of Darwin Award Winner Demands More Government Regulation

July 7, 2015 by V the K

With the left, it’s always, “Someone else did something stupid, and as a result, Government must grow and curtail the rights of sensible people.”

Case in point
:

The mother of a 22-year-old Maine man who tried to launch a firework off the top of his head for July Fourth and was killed instantly says she’s advocating for stricter controls about who can use the explosives.

Police say Calais resident Devon Staples and his friends had been drinking and setting off fireworks Saturday night in a backyard when the accident happened.

Kathleen Staples says she is going to reach out to lawmakers about the possibility of tighter controls over fireworks. She says the state should consider requiring safety training courses before allowing someone to use them. She compared fireworks with other regulated items such as cars and guns.

It is sad, but dim people with no understanding of cause and effect who think the solution to everything is Moar Government are a voting majority in our country right now.

A “22-year-old Maine man” was “setting off fireworks Saturday night in a backyard when the accident happened.

The accident involved the 22 year old man trying to launch a firework off the top of his head.”

Oh, my. He should have had an approved fireworks launching pad helmet and an asbestos suit for the stunt. Fireworks don’t kill people. Stupid people find ways to kill themselves with fireworks. Why didn’t he hold it in his mouth or pinch it between his thighs or aim it into his ear? We will never know, because the fireworks killed him and he can’t tell us just how his mind was working at the time.

The bigger issue here is his Constitutionally protected right to dignity and the choices he made. There should be a dignity exclusion clause printed on the fireworks which the setter-offer has to sign and fax to the manufacturers so that they can be be free of liability. Furthermore, the sellers of fireworks should be held liable if the buyer does not sign an idiocy release taking full responsibility for all of bright ideas.

As we all know, Republicans are recruiting kids from the Chicago ghettos to come buy guns and ammunition and then pushing them to shoot one another and create general neighborhood mayhem.

It is the responsibility of the Chicago police to let all of this occur while they search for the Republicans who created the mess.

Likewise, it is the proper role of government to start a fireworks for dummies program and put society on the hook for keeping the people safe from carrying cats by the tail or diving while texting into an empty swimming pool.

Drinking, fireworks but the problem is a lack of government relations?

I think even most people who had been drinking would have known that was a dumb idea.

With condolences to the mother, her adult son did it despite the efforts of other party goers who tried to talk him out of it–and thought they had at one point. There is nothing that more regulations would have done to stop him.

Sad to say. A new law won’t bring her sone back, the the rest of us don’t need this law to keep us from doing this.

Maybe, instead, we should regulate mothers who raise up their kids to have such poor judgment. Aren’t there already laws against child endangerment, child abuse, abusive parents?

    Oh, wait….

Sure, let’s have stricter controls – how about we not let stupid people drink?

In order to not destroy the narrative that fireworks are evil, the local paper has decided close the comment section for the article on this sad story.

Any act which is preceded by the words, “Hey, everybody! Watch this!” should be grounds for immediate dismissal in a lawsuit.

    @ #11,

Yeah, not to be silly, but- I think there is a motto that says:

drunk people + someone saying, “Hey fellas! Watch this!”, usually ends up with someone calling [an ambulance].

Fireworks, pah. What about water? Innocent people drown in rivers and lakes all the time yet it is still not a controlled substance. The government needs to do something.
