The Bible contains verses that hurt his feelings. He’s suing.

A homosexual man has filed a $70 million lawsuit against Bible publishers Zondervan and Thomas Nelson, alleging that their version of the Bible that refers to homosexuality as a sin violates his constitutional rights and has caused him emotional distress.

Bradley LaShawn Fowler, an ex-con turned author, filed the federal suit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on Monday, the same day a judge refused to appoint him a lawyer for his suit against Thomas Nelson, The Grand Rapids Press reported.

  2. Ignore it. That lawsuit will get tossed out as frivolous.

If it doesn’t, then you get on the case of the judges who should have tossed it out and did not.

I mean, come on, you really think anyone would take a lawsuit against the publisher of Huckleberry Finn because it contains the n-word repeatedly will be taken seriously?

Just ignore it. It will be tossed out.

  3. Someone has to set up the police to enforce the Constitutionally protected right to dignity.

I woke up this morning feeling that my full sense of dignity was not in a robust state. We need a 9-1-1 type number to dial so that the dignity police can fan out and get my dignity concerns fully addressed and to force the dignity despoilers to be crushed and beaten into full submission.

  7. Ok, so I just looked through the court system of both TN and MI. I cannot find either of these cases. Granted I do not have the case numbers for either, but there are no records of either case having been filed.

It is possible that the court systems are just taking their dear sweet time, but the TN one was allegedly filed in June.

Absent more concrete evidence I am going to call this one BS on the grounds that the gay guy has not actually filed. Which means that he has opened himself quite nicely to a counter suit.

  9. On the one hand, yeah, it’s frivolous.

But any more frivolous that taking down the Confederate flag because it hurts people’s feelings? Or taking crosses out of the public square because they make atheists uncomfortable?

  10. Where in the Constitution is this right to not have any “emotional distress?”

  20. Gay people wanted their rights and they got it. But I’m not going to let some gay person take away my religious rights.

    Comment by Bob — July 10, 2015 @ 12:17 am - July 10, 2015

  21. Everything about this is ridiculous. The bible is the inerrant word of God and is above our man-made constitutional rights. We’re all for demanding justice when we’re offended, but all about forgiveness when we’re the offender.

Listen, you can’t sue Bible publishers for references in it any more than you can sue publishers that tell us the sky is blue. The sky really is blue and the God that created you and I and all that is in the universe tells us that homosexuality really is wrong.

The reality is that we’re all sinners and this case demonstrates how backwards American society has become–we call right ‘wrong’ and wrong ‘right’. If you’re looking for what you and I deserve, Jesus took it on the cross; if you’re looking for what you and I don’t deserve, it’s what He gave us in exchange for paying the full price of our past/present/future sins–mercy and forgiveness.

To Mr. Fowler: Strap up your boots, get to work, and start living your life in a way that brings glory and honor to God, and brings honor back to America.

  24. I’m just thinking it’d be F-ing beautiful if those publishers could prove he lost his dignity, self-esteem and any ‘feelers’ he may have had in a bathhouse, pickle park or on a CL ‘date’… rather than exposure to one word in a revered, historically-parallel text from across the globe. In fact, I’m grinning just thinking of the evidence presentation on that one…

    Comment by Steve — July 10, 2015 @ 2:15 pm - July 10, 2015

  28. Well, Steve, #26, wadda ya wanna bet that nothing comes of this? After all, it’s just Right Wing whining, Lois testified that she’s done nothing wrong (just before she invoked her Fifth Amendment right NOT to testify), and besides, it’s time to move on. Those mean Republicans who keep investigating IRS-Gate, Benghazi, Fast & Furious, etc. are just racists trying to hurt our First Black President, not to mention our fine-and-upstanding black Attorney General.
