Donald Trump buzzed the Alabama football stadium were 20-30,000 supporters were rallying in his private 757. Let me see if I can predict how this will play out. Some GOP establishment tool (Karl Rove or Rick Wilson) with a stick up his butt will decry this “recklessness” and say that it proves Trump is unfit to hold office. Trump will respond something like this, and his polls will shoot up five points.
It’s kind of funny watching the GOP establishment sputter that “Trump is not a true conservative.” Expecially considering these are the same guys who went scorched Earth on true conservatives like Chris McDaniel, Martin Wolf, and Matt Bevin back in 2014 because “true conservatives can’t win elections.”
Conservatives may not agree with Trumps policies, but a lot of them love watching the establishment that has for so long lied to them at election time, and betrayed them once in office sputter and fume in frustration. Even if Trump ultimately flames out, for now he is the vessel for a lot of frustration.
Trump is but a short distance away from inheriting the “Teflon” title.
Trump is bellowing like a bull elephant and he seems to have gotten plenty of attention. He may succeed in marginalizing opponents within the party and from all of the opposing party candidates as being the problem standing in the way of making America Great Again.
I could never understand how anyone was moved to weep in ecstasy over Obama and his Yes-We-Can silly putty communal taffy pull. But they did. Twice.
Progressive smoke has begun to sour and the mirrors have dulled and cracked. Too many people are numbed by reality to rise up and march and shout for “More, More, More of the Same Old Tax and Spend Miracle Cure!”
Even the useful idiots are getting tired of just being perpetual victims.
The conservative commentariat can’t be so dumb as to not see that Trump is a logical reaction to the uselessness of the national GOP… they’re being willfully obtuse. I don’t think Trump would make a good president (although I don’t know what “worse” would look like given the current guy) but watching the waves of apoplexy wash through the pundit and political classes from Fox News to National Review is a treat.
Just like in Europe, immigration has become a hot issue because 1) it hits so many people where they live and work and 2) the political class (GOP/Dem, Labour/Tory) will not discuss it – we just get platitudes.
The rise of Trump (or the much less savory BNP in the UK and National Front in France) speaks to the fact that the mainstream has made it impossible to discuss the issue constructively. When civil discourse fails, we’re left with uncivil discourse (or worse – civil war).
The Brits have lucked out with UKIP but it may be too late.
KCBob you might not like the BNP but if you are having moslem trouble they are your only hope. The Rotherham UK cops ignored the gang rapes of 1400+ underage white British girls by 3rd world moslems because they are afraid of being called racist. If cops won’t help little raped white girls what will they do for puffs?
That’s “poofs”, Dahling…
Donald speaks my mind. The Estabalishment has given us nothing but losers. Speaker Boehner has got to go. He is gutless, and a good friend to Obama. Obama says sh*t, Boehner squats and asks how much.
On the day of Trump’s inauguration, he’ll appear on the dias to take the oath with his head shaved — and reveal that we have elected Lex Luthor President of the United States.
Just thinking-aloud… (typing a-silent ??)
An interesting article on POLITICO talks about the Summer Of Discontent and compares the popularity of Trump with the popularity of “Feel The Bern” Sanders. Each is speaking to large numbers of wannabe fellow travelers. The major (non-philosophical) difference is that Trump is an enthusiastic but mellow guy while his supporters are angry, whereas Sanders is angry and his supporters are mellow but enthusiastic.
