I have a theory on Trump/the GOP-E. I think the GOP candidates had a tacit agreement that they would neutralize the Illegal Immigration issue by all taking the same position on it. “Of course we can’t build a wall, and we can’t tear families apart. We will secure the border, someday (pinky swear), but we have to give all the illegals we have now (and the ones who will come in while we are working on securing that pesky border) some kind of legal status.”
But then Trump comes in and says, “Screw that, deport ’em and build a wall!”
It really screwed up the GOP’s plan to neutralize the issue.
Trump is a pretty smart guy and he saw that the rift between Mitch McConnell’s business interests and the base was a “y-u-u-u-u-u-g-e” opportunity, and he took it.
I am not a Trump supporter, but it’s become hard not to be impressed with the guy.
