Much as I am reluctant to discuss too much of my private life on this forum, I would like to introduce someone kind of special. About a month ago, I found this little creature scrounging for food around the neighborhood dumpster.
It took a couple of days to earn his trust enough to get close enough to catch him. Originally, the plan was to foster him until a home could be found. But he kind of grew on me. Here he is now:
What a cutie!!! Enjoy him, V!!
You are lucky to have found him and cared and he is lucky to have found you. Win-win.
Thanks for post; brightened up my rather dreary morning.
What a sweetie.
Back in 2009, hubby and I went to the San Diego animal shelter and they had a few kittens recovered from a dumpster in Vista. We adopted one of them and she still brings joy to our lives. I think we were the lucky ones.
Thanks for sharing, VtK.
We tried something similar with a kitten a couple years back. He was an affectionate and loving little guy, but he was terribly ill (something we didn’t realize at the time, being dog people more than cat people). He died a few days afterwards, but at least we know that he was warm, well-fed, and comfortable for the last few days of his life. And we realized that we enjoyed having a cat around the house so much that we adopted two from a vet tech whose cat had a litter around his age.
Your little guy looks far healthier than ours ever did. He already looks like he’s going to be a wise guy!
Obviously you belong to the male patriarchy, since you adopted a male cat and not a female.
Where is the “like” button?
welcome to the world of Cat’s Minion.
Wonderful! God bless you both–and God help you when the little hairball starts running the household(and he will). π
We found a stray kitten by a dumpster years ago.
He turned out to be the best hunter of snakes, moles and mice I’ve ever seen.
The little guy looked just like yours.
π
Congratulations on your new family member!
Cats are awesome (and so are my dogs). I could so be a crazy cat lady if I could afford to feed, spay, vaccinate and care for them. Instead I have to be content with my two cats and two dogs.
Wow! That’s a cute cat.
Congratulations, V the K.
For the record, it’s not people who dumpster kittens — it’s the mama cat. To a cat, a dumpster looks like a den. And mama cats usually move their kittens when they’re 3 to 5 weeks old. But cats can only count to three — so if there are more than 3 kittens, some of them get left behind, or sometimes the mama goes back to the original nest and forgets about the ones she’s already moved.
And if you find the mama and bring her the “abandoned” kittens, she’ll be like “OMG! Where did you find them? I’ve been so worried!” having no clue she lost them herself.
I’ve had lots of barn cats and feral cats, and have found this behavior very consistent. But it’s *why* people find “abandoned” or “thrown away” kittens so often.
Anyway, glad you found the little guy and are enjoying him π
I adore large dogs. Cats and small yappy dogs are not my cup of tea.
Aww, what a cutie.
Can Emergency Kitten Pics be a regular feature after really frustrating news or links?
Cats and Dogs seem to know who to adopt as pets.
My cat was a pregnant stray, wandering around. My neighbors and I caught her, unfortunately after all but one of her kittens “disappeared.” (Were also caught her kitten.) We got her vaccinated and spayed, and I got roped into taking care of her after her surgery. She grew on me, and now it’s five years later. She doesn’t like other people, but she loves me. My landlord adopted the kitten, by the way.
once you bought the cat house; you were done for.
One evening in early-June, I looked over to see what my older indoor-only cat was fussing about at the patio door..and suddenly noticed that his reflection wasn’t a reflection, it was a very-thin gray cat. Since I live in the country I knew it wasn’t a neighbor’s cat, and feeling the need for some “good karma”, I took some of his stale kibble outside in a dish for her — and meet her nearly identical gray sister.
Within a week I knew they weren’t feral farm cats since they both were cuddle-monsters. Someone had dumped them along our road, and they followed the light. I could see them successfully-hunting in our field, so I figured I could use a pair of outdoor cats, and gave them some kibble and water on our back porch whenever they showed-up hungry…
Well….two weeks later I had four cute gray kittens with white paws.
Two weeks later I had three more tiger-tabbies a black kitten.
So now I have eleven cats. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear….
I’m a dog person… ‘evil cat’ is redundant. π

I consider two to be the crazy cat person limit. Most I’ve had was four, because my kids brought them home.
