Pope Occupy dropped in on Cuba to lavish praise on its brutal, oppressive dictatorship.
Pope Francis expressed gratitude to Cuba for its contribution to peace and the preservation of the human species in a world saturated with hatred and aggression.
The Pope will be lecturing Congress on Thursday about redistributing wealth and fighting “climate change.”
Watching the immense pomp and ceremony surrounding the pope, and seeing how streets are being closed and cordoned off… causing frustration to thousands for the convenience of His Holiness, watching as politicians jockey for the opportunity to position themselves near the Pontiff, watching as the Pontiff inserts himself into politics, and listening as the Pope hypocritically lectures “the wealthy” to redistribute their earnings to the poor while the Vatican sits on billions of dollars in assets… I realized, this is how the whole Protestant thing got started.

Leave the pope alone.
Nicely set up, and delivered! Bingo.
What do all of you expect from a Central/South American marxist, regardless of whether he is the Pope? It’s a surprise to no one.
This is also how the whole Orthodox Schism started. Let’s see how badly he steps in it this weekend. There are going to be some very annoyed Catholics next week.
Francis is a Jesuit. In Italy calling a person a jesuit, is calling him/her a hypocrite. Here in El Salvador, the Catholic University is staffed by Jesuits, and many of its lay faculty are former communist guerillas. The reason for the massacre of six Jesuits was their vocal in support of the revolution. A priest who had been ‘persona non grata’ in the Vatican for his espousal of liberation theology, was invited and given a hug by Francis. Liberation theology gave rise to black liberation theology as taught by Rev. Wright at Trinity UCC , Chicago. The church attended fron twentytwo years by Barak Obama. See the connection?
So the Jesuits are basically the Mainline Protestant equivalents in the Catholic Church?
The SSPX are the mainline Protestant equivalents in the Catholic Church.
Isn’t the SSPX supposed to be super traditionalist?
When I said “Mainline equivalent,” I was referring to a faction of the Catholic Church that is culturally and theologically progressive like most Mainlines are.
Oh, well, in that case, the LCWR and the Jesuits seem progressive and liberal these days. The SSPX are traditionalists who believe themselves to be fighting against alleged liberalism in the Church and seek to resist and reverse the changes brought about by excessive liberalism. They got in big trouble when their leader ordained bishops without approval from the papacy.
I suppose that if you feel the need to apologize for everything in your past that is perceived by others as bad, you’ll want to take the position of your biggest detractors so that they are satisfied.
This Pope is almost making me not want to be Catholic anymore.
This Pope is making me glad I’m not Catholic. He isn’t very consistent he’s kind of like a cafeteria Catholic with power.
A consistent Catholic does not praise the oppressors of religion even if those oppressors are communists in Cuba.
One of my liberal friends posted something about Conservatives criticizing the pope. My thought was, “I’m a Lutheran heretic. We’ve been doing that for 500 years!”
“He isn’t very consistent he’s kind of like a cafeteria Catholic with power.”
I kind of disagree. If you look beyond the breathless media and their fawning headlines, he’s actually quite consistent – he’s sticking to Catholic teachings and he is consistent with the Catechism. What’s changed is the way he treats people and the way he expects the Church to treat people. And it’s about time. For too long Church leadership has staked it’s claim on something similar to “We’re right, you’re wrong, you’re all going to hell.” I mean, they have practically been Pentecostals. And here in the U.S. they used cultural and political dogwhistles and got in bed with assholes like Bill Donohue. It made people feel unwelcome, and for people who grew up Catholic it wasn’t the church they knew.
That’s where Francis is improving things, even though his economic ideology is fundamentally flawed. If you believe in the grace of Our Savior, you should want people to come to the Church as they are so that said grace may change them. The USCCB hasn’t had any interest in that in a long time, and Francis is challenging that leadership. The point of sheparding the flock isn’t to constantly beat them over the head with the crook.
He goes to congress and promotes open borders and Marxism.
That isn’t Catholic teaching.
How many refugees has Vatican city taken in? How wealthy is the church and how are they leading by example? That’s Christian teaching-not “you should open your borders to everyone and not worry about how much welfare programs cost.” The Pope was telling congress to do something the Vatican isn’t doing and that’s hypocrisy.
At least he was honest enough to say he didn’t want any illegals going to his homeland Argentina.
