“We need sensible gun-control legislation which prevents guns from being used by people who should not have them.”
But just what do advocates of “sensible gun control” mean by “sensible gun control?”
Is it San Francisco and Chicago-style gun control, where gun shops are de facto illegal in the city and all purchases must be made illegally?
Is it DC-style gun control, where permits are all but impossible to acquire and a man was recently prosecuted for possession of a spent shotgun shell casing and antique replica musket balls?
Is it New Jersey-style gun control, where people have been sent to prison merely for transporting their weapons from one home to another in the course of moving?
Is it New York style gun control, where a man’s guns were confiscated when he sought treatment for insomnia?
Is it “Universal Background Checks” that make it a felony to loan a buddy your hunting rifle, or for a father to purchase a gun for his daughter when she is being stalked by an ex-boyfriend?
Does it mean outlawing certain models of guns on the basis of cosmetic characteristics unrelated to lethality, as has been done in New York, California, Maryland, Connecticut and elsewhere?
Please explain exactly what sort of “sensible gun control” you support, and cite examples.
